    Stop Looking Outside Yourself for Solutions You have the potential to create right now Quote of the Day "It's not the situation...It's your reaction to the situation" ...are you proactive or reactive? ...are you responsible or victim? ...do you control the pace or wait for signals of what to do? This quote reminded me this morning of a very important principle or lesson I learned Stop looking outside yourself for solutions to your problems...help, resources, etc. Problem: So many of us are facing challenges right now ...business, personal, communication, financial What are you struggling with right now? What do you feel is missing from your life? What are you hoping to find or discover that will help you? Now I want you to step back for a moment and listen... So many times we all search for something outside ourselves, lives and influence. It's not only a problem but it is also a perception and ongoing cause of our issues. Depending or Needing things outside yourself will ALWAYS be outside your control. Learn to recognize that "its possible" to create without outside things... Its possible to create happiness, success, progress, fulfillment...with the resources you already have in your life right now this very moment. It may be hard to see but it doesn't make it any less true. Faith is belief in something you cannot see... Laws of the universe are excellent example of things you don't need to see to believe. Story: about 10 years ago...business failure, divorce, personal defeat... remember the situation very clearly... listened to an audiobook by Napoleon Hill he shifted to using adversity as an opportunity...just like the quote of the day Solution: You have overcome challenges before in your life You are stronger than you think You have abilities that are dormant or not unleashed Steps to CREATE 1- Commit to push through 2- Recognize your greatness and abilities 3- Disconnect from the outcome...Get lost in the process 4- Persist until you win ...Les Brown...Its not over until I win ...Robert Stuberg...Key Virtues (faith, courage, resolve, compassion, gratitude) Strategy: Identify & Clarify a problem you are working on You must admit where you are (vulnerability is key) Determine what it will take to make a change and push through it Acknowledge and Accept that you can do it Just start...don't wait for the plan, path, solutions...create through action Remember this: each day you persist will the hardest day you will ever face moving forward...you were tough enough to make to through and you are now stronger... So, it's up to you at this point... You need to decide who you want to be... ...the person that gives up ...the person that waits for outside help ...the person that is going to take the ball and run with it...responsibility for your life.


    Your Hidden Asset that Can Change Your Life Jul 12, 2021

    I’m back…Excited to talk with you today about Your Time...Your Direction...Your Focus...Ultimately, Your Life. Quote of the day: "He who knows he has enough is rich"….Loa-tzu I have always had mixed emotions about this quote because I felt it meant to settle… But the more I contemplate this quote, the more I understand it… It's been said that the secret to Happiness is NOT “having what you want” but “wanting what you have”. I believe that if we enter a constant state (as ed mylett would say) of Blissful Dissatisfaction, then we are not saying we are content with our current state…we are happy and grateful for what we have while simultaneously pursuing a better version of our selves and a better life. I don't mean better as in more money, fame, recognition, etc (although you may have as much of that you as desire in life too). I mean having a better life of happiness, fulfillment, helping others, and yes success and prosperity. Anyway…there is more to these daily quotes than lies on the surface if you will think about them each day and use them to better your life. So, Today’s topic is on Time…. We talk a lot about wealth, but sometime we forget that our Time is the Greatest Asset we have. We forget that regardless of how much money, talent or opportunity you have, we all have 24 hours in a day. But, It's is how you spend your asset of time that matters the most. How are you spending your TIME? Are you investing your time or are you wasting it? Are you taking your “free time” and wasting it on “rest, netflix, catching up on sleep, and other thing that rob you of the dreams you have in life?” Remember the quote a few days ago..”laziness is nothing more than the habit of resting before you get tired”…I think we convince ourselves (program ourselves) to think we need rest when what we really need is to achieve Growth, our Dreams, and Fulfill our Purpose... Time is the great equalizer in the world of Success, Prosperity and Happiness. We all have the same 24 hours in a day. I know what you are thinking and what is coming up for you in your head right now... -I have job or two or three that take my whole day -I have kids, family and responsibilities others don't have -I wasn’t given the same environment, opportunities, and things others have -I am not as skilled or talented as the next person Excuse, Excuse, Excuse….Yes, there are some people and situations that are different or have a bit of an advantage, but how You view your circumstances determines your outcome. Wayne Dyer says, “when you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change” I believe this without a doubt… So, you can either choose to believe that you are overwhelmed, overloaded, stressed and under the gun or you can choose to accept your situation and level up… I listen to Lisa Nichols give a great speech about time and she stated some numbers that I think you might benefit from thinking about… We all have 24 hours in a day 7 days a week to start each week with… That is 168 hours…168 hours…think about that. Start from solution not the problem. Don’t start with, “I have a couple hours after I get home from work or only time on the weekend”. Start from the source of your assets… If you work a 40 hour job and you sleep 8 hours a night (56), that is 96 hours total… What are you doing with the other 72 hours per week? think about that…. What are you doing with the other 8-10 hours per day?? Sure there are kids, second jobs, and many other true priorities in life… so lets deduct 4 hours a day for family and 4 hours a day for your side hustle and/or 2nd job… That still leaves a couple hours a day… Do your realize how much you could do with an extra 1 hour per day put toward your Goal and Dreams…??? But where do most of us spend our time: -facebook and instagram -tick tock -surfing the web -online shopping *when was the last time you looked at your screen time? look at it…. Let’s really understand where we are investing our greatest asset (TIME) How about TV? How much do you watch Netflix or On Demand TV….? -we even convince ourselves that we are being more productive by not watching commercials...really? -seriously…do you realize that you are putting your Dreams, Goals, Talents on hold for nothing but short term relaxation…? I want to draw something to your attention that you may have not considered… In addition to wasting time, you are also allowing your subconscious mind to be Programmed. That’s right, you think you are not spending time working on YOU, but you actually ARE. The problem is that you are Programming YOU to move further from your goals and dreams.. You are Programming YOU to become more fearful, more dependent, more anxious, more stressed… MORE Bought into the Story that is being told around you…Think about that for a moment… Our thoughts create our life. Our thoughts drive the feelings and emotions and actions that we do. Our thoughts and feelings and actions create our experience which solidify and build our beliefs… You are ALLOWING your spare time to "Involuntarily" be Programmed to work against you… …or should I say you are Voluntarily allowing yourself to Give up on Your Goals and Dreams (subconsciously). Listen... We all have TIME to spend. We all have the CHOICE to spend our time wisely and in the pursuit of a worthwhile goal of some kind… I encourage you to use your time for productive endeavors. I encourage you to use your time to experience life. I encourage you to use your time to create the BEST versions of yourself. Stop being selfish with your time and spending it on yourself. Give it in service to others. The beautiful thing about this concept is that you can share your time and talents in the service to others and get PAID along the way (in money or other things). You can create an amazing life if you will just spend your time wisely… Last thought…learn to understand the power of compounding your time just like your money. Don't look for the short term payout.

    Gratitude is a Strategy What is Gratitude and why do thought leaders talk so much about having a Gratitude Practice? I’ve learned over time in my life that gratitude can be an amazing strategy to use to reduce or eliminate stress, anxiety, depression, and even insomnia. But more importantly, it is an excellent practice to increase your overall happiness and fulfillment in life, so let's have brief discussion about the benefits of gratitude and ways to cultivate it in your life. I think it is important to note that gratitude actually has a much deeper meaning than just being thankful for things you have. There are actually 2 parts to being truly grateful. First, there is the appreciate and recognition for things, benefits or gifts we have received in our lives. Second, there is the acknowledgment of these things from something or someone outside of our selves, and our willingness to give back and “express” our feelings of gratitude. So, why is it so important that we adopt and live an attitude of Gratitude in our lives? Well, it's important to understand that gratitude is not just an emotion we experience or an attitude we adopt in our lives. Gratitude literally causes changes in our brain and can affect all areas of our life in a positive way. This is so important when you are trying to create an amazing life, or you are struggling to deal with stress, anxiety or negative emotions in your life. Scientists have shown in brain scans that specific areas of the brain are affected when individuals participate in acts or emotions of gratitude. The chemical reactions that occur can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, and it can also cause an increased sensitivity to future experiences of gratitude. This shows that the more you practice and experience gratitude the more you will benefit from its positive affects on your life. Here are 7 Key Benefits you can gain from the Power of Gratitude

    1. Abundance & Attraction- I have always said that what you focus on grows. When you practice gratitude, you will attract more positive emotions, energy and experiences into your life. This will also lead to more motivation and drive to help you accomplish your goals.
    2. Attitude & Mindset- One of the most important resources an entrepreneur can have in business is a positive attitude. But an attitude of gratitude can also help to reduce stress, anxiety and depression which will ultimately help you deal with more difficult situations and problems that can arise in your day to day life.
    3. Perspective & Filter- Having a positive attitude is critical but gratitude can also help you to change your perspective when you are identifying and overcoming day to day challenges. Dr Wayne Dyer has been quoted as saying, “when you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” I truly believe this, and I can tell you from experience that when you have a gratitude practice you will see situations in life in a different light. You are more patient, understanding and more capable of creating solutions. This will lead you to much more success in business and relationships.
    4. Happiness & Health- The positive affects your health, happiness and immune system are also a proven fact of having more gratitude in your life. Scientific studies have show that individuals practicing gratitude have stronger immune systems, get better quality sleep and are happier overall with their life. I believe happiness comes from wanting what you have rather than having what you want, and this is much easier when practicing gratitude regularly.
    5. Inspiration & Influence- More and more thought leaders are acknowledging that you will create a better quality life when you have impact on others and feel you are making a difference in the world. Practicing gratitude and serving other is an excellent way to inspire and influence others. It is also a great way to help take the focus off of yourself and your current obstacles in life if you are struggling to deal with various problems and life challenges.
    6. Leadership Development- By serving others and creating impact, you will also be able to develop as a leader. True leadership comes from setting an example of what you want others to emulate around you. If you truly want to surround yourself with positive, happy people, then the best way to do this is to practice and express gratitude to the people in your life.
    7. Strong Relationships- The quality of your relationships can be significantly impacted by gratitude. Most relationships struggle when negative emotions are involved like envy, jealousy, cynicism or even anger. Gratitude has been show to create and attract positive emotions and will also shift the average individual into a positive state more often. This results in more expressions of love, compassion, positivity and encouragement…all of which lead to stronger key relationships.
    These are just a few of the many benefits that you can experience by adopting and practicing more gratitude. Remember, there are mental, emotional and even physical benefits that will impact your life if you choose to focus on this powerful emotion. So, let me give you just a few ideas and strategies for how you can Cultivate more Gratitude in your life today. Try some or all of these Practices, and then add a few to your daily rituals and routine… Engage in acts of service. Write thank you notes. Keep a gratitude journal. Focus on key relationships. Express appreciation to others often. Try to identify a time in your day that you can identify the things that you are grateful for on a daily basis. Then, find ways to express or practice your gratitude for the most impact in your life. I hope this topic has been able to inspire you and will help you to continue to create your best life.     How to Identify Thought Distortions Jul 07, 2021

Nelson Boswell Today I want to share with you the monthly blog article from my business partner Robert Stuberg. The of the blog entry is Thought Distortions. This blog is packed with content and ideas on how to start REALLY changing your thoughts....especially the ones you Don't want to be having. Thought Distortions Blog July 1, 2021 One of the questions clients frequently ask me is, What is the best way to change your thoughts? In other words, how do you get rid of thoughts you don’t want running through your mind? If you take the time to analyze your unwanted thoughts, you will often discover that they are based on distortions of reality. Finding ways to eliminate these “Thought Distortions” can take many forms. Over the years, I have used several methods but some of the ones I’ve found most effective have been self-hypnosis, sleep programming, meditation, and even something I call “Hypnology” which you may find fun to investigate and experience for yourself. It’s an extremely powerful way to change your thinking. Just click HERE for your FREE copy!) The challenge to eliminating your unwanted thoughts, however, is that you first have to figure out what thoughts you need to eliminate. So let me begin by telling you about Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which was developed by the American psychiatrist Aaron Beck in the 1960’s. Beck originally used Freudian Psychoanalysis with his patients but as a researcher and scientist, he decided to put psychoanalysis to the test. Unfortunately, those tests he conducted did not produce the results he was expecting which is what lead him to start developing and testing other methods. As you might imagine, Beck was not originally applauded for challenging accepted beliefs and practices but as other colleagues began trying his methods, Beck was vindicated and eventually regarded as an important pioneer in the field of psychiatry. The essence of what Beck discovered is that negative thoughts fall into three categories: negative ideas about the self, negative ideas about the world, and negative thoughts about the future. For many people, these negative thoughts become automatic over time so they are no longer even questioned. But when Beck began questioning patients about their thoughts and pointing out various inaccuracies or distortions, patients could recognize their faulty thinking and choose new thoughts. As simple as it sounds, it was revolutionary at the time and it still remains a major part of psychiatry today. It is especially significant in the treatment of depression. I find it one of the best tools available to clarify one’s thinking about anything. Read the next section on thought distortions to see if you can uncover any in your own thinking. I think it is safe to say that we all have thought distortions, but we can eliminate them by recognizing and acknowledging them, and by beginning to ask better questions to get to the truth. The key is learn to rise above thought distortions which always fall into those three main categories I mentioned—i.e., negative thoughts that are personal, pervasive, and permanent. The good news is that with clear, rational thinking you can spot these. However, it’s always recommended to brainstorm what you are thinking about with a coach, mentor, counselor, or doctor to get real unbiased feedback. THE COGNITIVE TRIAD

    1. The Self – Is the self worthless or valuable? (Personal)
    2. The World/Environment – Is the world unfair, fair, or neutral? (Pervasive)
    3. The Future – Is the future hopeless or hopeful? (Permanent)
    Again, the most challenging problems are the ones that we convince ourselves are personal, pervasive, and permanent. Put those on your list to be eliminated. TYPES OF THOUGHT DISTORTIONS All-Or-Nothing Thinking
    • Engaging in black-or-white thinking. Thinking in extremes, such as all good or all bad, with nothing in the middle.
    Selective Abstraction
    • Selecting one idea or fact from an event while ignoring other facts in order to support negative thinking.
    Mind Reading
    • Believing that we know the thoughts in another person’s mind.
    Negative Prediction
    • Believing that something bad is going to happen even though there is no evidence to support this prediction.
    Catastrophizing
    • Exaggerating the potential or real consequences of an event and becoming fearful of the consequences.
    Overgeneralization
    • Making a rule based on a few negative or isolated events and then applying it broadly.
    Labeling
    • Creating a negative view of oneself based on errors or mistakes that one has made. This is a type of overgeneralizing which affects one’s view of oneself.
    Magnification
    • Exaggerating an imperfection into something greater than it is.
    Minimization
    • Making a positive event much less important than it really is.
    Personalization
    • Taking a common or general event and relating it to oneself thus making a connection where one really doesn’t exist.
    I’ve found this list of Thought Distortion Types to be extremely valuable for myself and my clients as a reference guide to help spot thoughts you are thinking that are not good for you, not good for others, and don’t serve the greater good. More importantly, since they are Thought Distortions, they are not true. And I believe that all progress starts with telling yourself the truth. Or as an old mentor said to me one day: “Robert, you might as well start with the truth because you are going to end with it.” Sage advice indeed.

    You Gotta Find What You Love Jul 06, 2021

    Quote of the Day Success is never final, and failure is never fatal; it's courage that counts...Unknown This morning I was listening to one of the greatest commencement addresses of all time by Steve Jobs. I do this occasionally in my morning routine to glean words of inspiration and motivation from thought leaders and successful business professionals. It's a great way to get a quick dose of "behind the scenes" of very successful people, because they often share thoughts, insights and lessons learned in their lives. This speech was a great one, so I decided I am going to read you the transcript and see if it can also bring you some great ideas and thoughts (like it did for me). I hope you enjoy. Here it is: I am honored to be with you today at your commencement from one of the finest universities in the world. I never graduated from college. Truth be told, this is the closest I've ever gotten to a college graduation. Today I want to tell you three stories from my life. That's it. No big deal. Just three stories. The first story is about connecting the dots. I dropped out of Reed College after the first 6 months, but then stayed around as a drop-in for another 18 months or so before I really quit. So why did I drop out? It started before I was born. My biological mother was a young, unwed college graduate student, and she decided to put me up for adoption. She felt very strongly that I should be adopted by college graduates, so everything was all set for me to be adopted at birth by a lawyer and his wife. Except that when I popped out they decided at the last minute that they really wanted a girl. So my parents, who were on a waiting list, got a call in the middle of the night asking: "We have an unexpected baby boy; do you want him?" They said: "Of course." My biological mother later found out that my mother had never graduated from college and that my father had never graduated from high school. She refused to sign the final adoption papers. She only relented a few months later when my parents promised that I would someday go to college. And 17 years later I did go to college. But I naively chose a college that was almost as expensive as Stanford, and all of my working-class parents' savings were being spent on my college tuition. After six months, I couldn't see the value in it. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and no idea how college was going to help me figure it out. And here I was spending all of the money my parents had saved their entire life. So I decided to drop out and trust that it would all work out OK. It was pretty scary at the time, but looking back it was one of the best decisions I ever made. The minute I dropped out I could stop taking the required classes that didn't interest me, and begin dropping in on the ones that looked interesting. It wasn't all romantic. I didn't have a dorm room, so I slept on the floor in friends' rooms, I returned Coke bottles for the 5¢ deposits to buy food with, and I would walk the 7 miles across town every Sunday night to get one good meal a week at the Hare Krishna temple. I loved it. And much of what I stumbled into by following my curiosity and intuition turned out to be priceless later on. Let me give you one example: Reed College at that time offered perhaps the best calligraphy instruction in the country. Throughout the campus every poster, every label on every drawer, was beautifully hand calligraphed. Because I had dropped out and didn't have to take the normal classes, I decided to take a calligraphy class to learn how to do this. I learned about serif and sans serif typefaces, about varying the amount of space between different letter combinations, about what makes great typography great. It was beautiful, historical, artistically subtle in a way that science can't capture, and I found it fascinating. None of this had even a hope of any practical application in my life. But 10 years later, when we were designing the first Macintosh computer, it all came back to me. And we designed it all into the Mac. It was the first computer with beautiful typography. If I had never dropped in on that single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts. And since Windows just copied the Mac, it's likely that no personal computer would have them. If I had never dropped out, I would have never dropped in on this calligraphy class, and personal computers might not have the wonderful typography that they do. Of course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college. But it was very, very clear looking backward 10 years later. Again, you can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life. My second story is about love and loss. I was lucky — I found what I loved to do early in life. Woz and I started Apple in my parents' garage when I was 20. We worked hard, and in 10 years Apple had grown from just the two of us in a garage into a $2 billion company with over 4,000 employees. We had just released our finest creation — the Macintosh — a year earlier, and I had just turned 30. And then I got fired. How can you get fired from a company you started? Well, as Apple grew we hired someone who I thought was very talented to run the company with me, and for the first year or so things went well. But then our visions of the future began to diverge and eventually we had a falling out. When we did, our Board of Directors sided with him. So at 30 I was out. And very publicly out. What had been the focus of my entire adult life was gone, and it was devastating. I really didn't know what to do for a few months. I felt that I had let the previous generation of entrepreneurs down — that I had dropped the baton as it was being passed to me. I met with David Packard and Bob Noyce and tried to apologize for screwing up so badly. I was a very public failure, and I even thought about running away from the valley. But something slowly began to dawn on me — I still loved what I did. The turn of events at Apple had not changed that one bit. I had been rejected, but I was still in love. And so I decided to start over. I didn't see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life. During the next five years, I started a company named NeXT, another company named Pixar, and fell in love with an amazing woman who would become my wife. Pixar went on to create the world's first computer animated feature film, Toy Story, and is now the most successful animation studio in the world. In a remarkable turn of events, Apple bought NeXT, I returned to Apple, and the technology we developed at NeXT is at the heart of Apple's current renaissance. And Laurene and I have a wonderful family together. I'm pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn't been fired from Apple. It was awful tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it. Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't settle. My third story is about death. When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: "If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you'll most certainly be right." It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: "If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?" And whenever the answer has been "No" for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something. Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most important tool I've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure — these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart. About a year ago I was diagnosed with cancer. I had a scan at 7:30 in the morning, and it clearly showed a tumor on my pancreas. I didn't even know what a pancreas was. The doctors told me this was almost certainly a type of cancer that is incurable, and that I should expect to live no longer than three to six months. My doctor advised me to go home and get my affairs in order, which is doctor's code for prepare to die. It means to try to tell your kids everything you thought you'd have the next 10 years to tell them in just a few months. It means to make sure everything is buttoned up so that it will be as easy as possible for your family. It means to say your goodbyes. I lived with that diagnosis all day. Later that evening I had a biopsy, where they stuck an endoscope down my throat, through my stomach and into my intestines, put a needle into my pancreas and got a few cells from the tumor. I was sedated, but my wife, who was there, told me that when they viewed the cells under a microscope the doctors started crying because it turned out to be a very rare form of pancreatic cancer that is curable with surgery. I had the surgery and I'm fine now. This was the closest I've been to facing death, and I hope it's the closest I get for a few more decades. Having lived through it, I can now say this to you with a bit more certainty than when death was a useful but purely intellectual concept: No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life's change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true. Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary. When I was young, there was an amazing publication called The Whole Earth Catalog, which was one of the bibles of my generation. It was created by a fellow named Stewart Brand not far from here in Menlo Park, and he brought it to life with his poetic touch. This was in the late 1960s, before personal computers and desktop publishing, so it was all made with typewriters, scissors and Polaroid cameras. It was sort of like Google in paperback form, 35 years before Google came along: It was idealistic, and overflowing with neat tools and great notions. Stewart and his team put out several issues of The Whole Earth Catalog, and then when it had run its course, they put out a final issue. It was the mid-1970s, and I was your age. On the back cover of their final issue was a photograph of an early morning country road, the kind you might find yourself hitchhiking on if you were so adventurous. Beneath it were the words: "Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish." It was their farewell message as they signed off. Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish. And I have always wished that for myself.
