EPISODE #17 Optimal Breathing for Athletes & Musicians Dec 17, 2017
Show notes Download Bio of the artist: Born in Germany, Barbara Tanze is one of seven certified level two MDH breathing Coordination practitioners. After her singing studies and going on a European tour with her voice she did a 5 day discovery workshop on breathing coordination. In the interview she talks about how this method changed her life. We want an understanding of what things are made of and how they work before we actually get down to doing it. Whether you are a singer, musician, athlete or an orator, one thing common to all of us is that we need to breathe. Breathing coordination helps us understand the precise and functional anatomy behind the mechanism of breathing and how to use this as effectively as possible to produce maximum output. Barbara’s journey is filled with success stories including her own. The understanding of what happens when we breathe and how different structures in our body collaborate in such a way that the pressure is taken away from the physical realm. As artists for instance we can freely focus on the impact of our music on ourselves and the audience. For athletes who are so aware of their body and their breathing Barbara talks about it how this method can enable them to perform efficiently. The key aspect in all this is just to listen to your body and question why your body reacts the way that it does or does not react a certain way. In this episode:
    1. How breathing coordination can impact your overall well-being.
    2. Methods to use breathing coordination as a tool for minimal effort for maximum output.
    3. Importance of breathing coordination for athletes and singers.
    4. Practical tips for effective breathing
    Key takeaways:
    1. Listen to your body.
    2. Concentrate on your exhale, this makes place for air in your lungs.
    3. Find a position for your body where your spine is as long as possible and your ribs are free to hang from your spine.
    4. Try how comfortably you can exhale by observing your ribs, how much air you can take in, how long it takes to exhale and how much air flows in naturally as a reflex during inhale.
    5. Be curious and question everything that your body feels and communicate it.

Winner of several awards, he began singing studies at the end of his gymnasium studies. He immediately received a scholarship and advanced with several professors in Europe and U.S.A such as Kurt Widmer, Anne Ramoni, or Conrad Osbourne. Attracted by pedagogy, he began training "Diploma of Teaching Singing" at the Haute Ecole de Musique in Lausanne, in the classes of Mrs. Brigitte Balleys and Erika Bill; training he finishes with a prize for his diploma work "Lyric song & Modern song, two worlds that everything opposes?". As part of his research for the methodology and pedagogy modules, he met Lynn Martin, Professor of Respiratory Coordination and Functional Anatomy at NYU (New York University), and Spencer Welch, a vocal teacher specializing in technique for modern singing. Which led to a fruitful collaboration whose goal is the liberation of accessory tensions, and the realization of the vocal and artistic potential. He is the Co - creator of the MDH breathing coordination program. What he shares on this episode The key here is to listen to your body. What she shares on this episode

What is driving you today to be better at what you do than the day before? What motivates you to be the best? We are often caught up in the here and now that we don’t look at sustainability as artists. If you build your careers on a platform that is going to change in a couple of years you’re going to have nothing. The industry is changing at a faster pace than you can keep up and at the end of the day all you’re left with is your talent. What you do with what you have is contingent in giving you the credibility that you need to make it big in the industry. If you’re creative and talented don’t limit your experiences because you’ll never know how the path winds. As Denosh says, own your craft, own your performance, work on it, be diligent and keep going. What she shares on this episode

In most cases the blueprints for our lives as artists are laid in the formative years, we easily recollect that day we heard a song played or a saw someone dancing or acting and knew in that moment that was what we wanted to do for the rest of our lives. But it’s never as easy as it seems. In a world that is so competitive and fast paced we become a minority. This thought is what holds us back from doing the things we love the most. On this episode Ayanna talks about her personal experience in the world of dance, the things that she did differently to pursue her heart’s desire all out. As an artist it is imperative that you are open to possibilities because you never know where life is going to take you. Sometimes at the cost of our own health and wellbeing. We spend hours on end in the studio perfecting that song and it is s important that it represents who we are and the way that we want people to perceive us. When all this is done we finally put our song out there and hope someone will take notice of it. This where building a community around your art becomes an essential step in the process of your song being noticed. A lot of work needs to go in even before you release your song. EPISODE #9 From Playing Cafes to Placing Songs on TV Dec 09, 2017
Show notes Download Bio of the artist: Teal Thompson has been teaching the Avatar course for more than 20 years. Avatar is an international self-empowerment program that teaches you to create your life deliberately. Teal did the Avatar course while attending the University of Texas in Austin as a voice major. She went from performing in coffee shops and open mic nights to her songs being shopped to 9 major record labels within two months of doing the avatar course at age 23. She then used the avatar tools to place her songs in Paramount Pictures and Warner Brothers TV shows and sound tracks. In her 20s she was inspired to deliver the avatar course because she wanted everyone to have what she had. The power to bring one’s goals and dreams to life. Teal lives in Austin, Texas and teaches the Avatar course all over the US and Latin America in Spanish and English. What she shares on this episode “Don’t let what you’re being get in the way of what you might become.”
    • Harry Palmer, Author of the avatar materials
According to people that have done the course, Avatar is the most powerful and purest self-development program available. It is a series of experiential exercises that enable you to rediscover yourself and align your consciousness with your goals. In the process you will experience your own unique insights and revelations. Teal was motivated by a friend years ago and was driven to do the course. On this episode Teal shares the impact that the Avatar course had on her life and career. Changing not just her external environment but causing change within. We all have those boulders along the way that prevent us from realising our dreams. It could be just a thought or belief that we feed ourselves with. For instance, as artists we think we must be at all these places at all the right times, I mean, common! Or we think our age stands in the way of our achievement and creativity. But you’ll see If you can as much as change one thought, you are able to turn our lives around. After the Avatar she was able to connect with her higher self and impact the world through her music. The course allowed her to experience things for the way it was and move freely. The interesting thing about the Avatar is that it increases a person’s compassion and personal responsibility to others in the world she says. “Each moment that you’re happy is a gift to the rest of the world.” -Harry Palmer She started to teach the avatar course in her mid -twenties and says that there is nothing that has touched her heart more than to awaken people. With the avatar you keep growing and evolving, it is an ongoing process. With Avatar everyone wins. Every person who becomes an Avatar shifts the collective consciousness toward greater tolerance and understanding. Helping yourself with Avatar helps everyone else at the same time. – Harry Palmer, author of the Avatar materials In this episode of the creator mindset podcast
