    Bio of the artist

Since his debut album The Middle Way, Los Angeles based singer/songwriter/performer/producer Shane Alexander has shaped a distinctive career for himself. Touring the US and 11 other countries - both as a headliner, and as support for Bon Iver, Jewel, John Hiatt, Suzanne Vega, Seal, Styx and Yes, the fiercely independent artist has developed a loyal international fanbase, licensed his original music to appear in over 100 television shows, films and commercials, and recently crossed 16 million streams on Spotify. In 2016 Alexander opened Buddhaland Studios, a beautiful multi-purpose recording, video, performance and writing space in Southern California. After completing his self-produced 6th solo album Bliss at Buddhaland, he went on to produce Shelby Figueroa's debut Highwire - which hit #1 on Amazon's singer/songwriter chart. Merry Christmas! And whatever your beliefs are, we wish you a beautiful day. As many songs say, may it be Christmas every day. With no intention to offend anyone’s sentiments, to Ariane Christmas is about light, awareness and a time to reflect. A time to reflect on values, a time to reflect on the year that has gone by and a time to meditate on the success and growth of the year that’s passed by. As Audrey Hepburn said very elegantly: “For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.” There are many traditions around Christmas time, In Switzerland we have what we call an advent calendar, and each morning for the whole month of December the children get a little surprise in the morning. It’s not all about the presents but more about being together as a family. “Christmas isn't a season. It's a feeling.” -Edna Ferber Do you have a special tradition around that time? Have you ever written a Christmas song? If you have, write to us at ariane@arianeleanzaheinz.com and get featured next Christmas! And don’t wait, it’ll be here sooner than you think. “Christmas is the spirit of giving without a thought of getting. It is happiness because we see joy in people. It is forgetting self and finding time for others. It is discarding the meaningless and stressing the true values.” -Thomas. S. Monson What are your values? As you spend time with your loved ones and reflect on yourself we wish you a beautiful and peaceful Christmas.

    Key Takeaways
    • Find your quiet space.
    • Look at where you are not and compare it with where you were a year ago.
    • Re- align with your purpose and make a plan and vision for the following year.
    • Appreciate everyone and everything you encountered in the past year.

She now lives in Switzerland and works online as a Live Video Coach.

What she shares on this episode

We are by virtue of being human fearful about being left out of the tribe. We are afraid that if we are truly ourselves we might not be accepted. The key to overcoming this fear is to refocus your mind. When you have an intellectual understanding of what fear is you can witness it rather than react to it and every time you do it your conscious awareness of it increases. It never goes away but you are able to process it better. You need to find practices that build your consciousness rather than self-consciousness. The more you can develop a sense of not being only yourself you realise that you are a part of something greater and really acknowledge your spirit that is driving you to express your art. Yoga and meditation, gets you in touch with the greater force in you. It releases yourself from being the one responsible for delivering something. It’s a different way of being on stage and you start to become real. The audience wants your eyes, your honesty and you being true to whatever is going on for you at the moment. The more you get to know yourself, the more you can be yourself and that is what the audience wants. It boils down to overcoming the fear of not being good enough and when you are not true to yourself people can sense it.

    • Warm up your voice.
    • Breath, body and voice – three pillars of your pre-show preparation to manage fear.
    • Don’t hide behind a mask of what you think your audience wants to see – give them you.
    • Practice – nothing can takeaway from the importance of taking action.
    • There is no such thing as failure, just experience.
    • Have people that you trust, and love give you feedback.

    Key Takeaways
    • We ideally don’t need as much air as we normally use while singing – you need to train your body to be ok with that.
    • The consonants are the percussion and the vowels are the water and music – with straight percussion the vowels sound better.

Nayanna Holley is an L.A. based Singer-Songwriter and Vocal/Performance Coach. She has served as a backing singer on American Idol and The Voice. Major tours have included Selena Gomez, Sheryl Crow, Robin Thicke, Allen Stone Johnny Hallyday and Robbie Williams. Her YouTube Channel, “The Practice Room”, provides insider tips on singing, auditioning, music business, and health and wellness for the working musician. Nayanna earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Studies from Western Michigan University

What she shares on this episode

I must say that Nayanna has quite an interesting definition of success. She says success to her is the freedom of being able to choose what you do with your time. We live in a time where you are assessed based on your result. Your product. It takes a lot to get to a place where your results are able to speak for themselves, but you’ve got to do it in order to grow. As singers we usually tend to give our stuff away for practically nothing at all. It doesn’t have to be this way. Money is important, even if the focus is on the music and art. That’s just the way the world works. And It’s easy to be taken advantage of in the business. To avoid this from happening be more intentional when talking about money. Its uncomfortable but do it anyway. Look out for yourself. “Starving artist” is cliched and cute, but it doesn’t have to be that way. You never get taught the nuances of the business aspect of music when you are in school. You learn by asking people, doing research, experience and practice. Learn how to negotiate in the business. Write down the conversation if you know its going to be difficult. You need to look after yourself in order to be able to perform effectively.

In this episode of the creator mindset podcast
    • Nayanna’s take on the music business.
    • How to break that wall of discomfort when it comes to talking about money.

What she shares on this episode

“Acknowledging the good you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance” -Eckhart Tolle There is one feeling that changes everything like magic, Gratitude. What are you grateful for today? Is it the house you live in? A supportive family? The sunshine? It could be anything. Gratitude is not proportional to the things that we own or which strata of society we belong to, gratitude is a choice. “Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.” ― Melody Beattie For starters, you could make a gratitude list. Put down all the things that you are grateful for. Ariane is grateful for her new house, her daughters, her supportive husband, all her clients and students, music, life, snow and Christmas coming up. When you choose to have gratitude you will manifest so much more than what you’ve wanted in your life than ever before. You’ll realise that every day is a unique and you can create it as poorly or as beautifully as you want. So be a child and discover it with new eyes. “This is a wonderful day and I’ve never seen this one before.” – Maya Angelou. What are you amazed about? Is it the people that you meet, the smile of a child, a song on the radio, or something that the radio announcer said that you connected with? What makes your heart light? For Ariane it is Making music and enabling people to make beautiful music. Ask yourself, how you can add value in another’s life today through your gift? “Even though you have a small heart it can hold a relatively large amount of gratitude” – Piglet, Winnie the Pooh.
