Top 10 Books That Changed Our Lives Nov 17, 2023

Countdown #448

Find out more (any maybe too much?) about the boys this week as they countdown the top 10 books which have somehow changed their lives.

As you might imagine, this opens the door for some interesting discussions about turning points in the lads' lives, while also diving into a medium of learning and entertainment which has barely been touched up on 447 previous countdowns.

Part of this was because Wayne was reluctant to expose his lack of reading to the world, but the reality is, he has plenty to say, and most of it - for once - is not profanity-laced calls of a ludicrous nature :P

Paul, meanwhile, is in his element - though it turns out his element is far more fantastical than Wayne's, in what might be an unexpected and intriguing turn of events for long term listeners.

So get on board for this different (and epic!) show, as The Countdown continues ...

The Marvels review Nov 14, 2023

Show notes

This week, the boys return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the second film in Phase 5, to determine whether the rumours of the MCU's demise have been greatly exaggerated.

But in a film featuring some out of left field scenes and one of the worst villains the MCU has ever trotted out, can the rest of The Marvels rise about its impediments to produce something memorable? Or does it continue the downward spiral of the MCU?

Not surprisingly, there's a major difference of opinion, but who falls on what side of that divide ... as The Countdown continues ...

Show notes

Episode #447

Wayne gets to dine out this week on his favourite music genre - Pop! - while Paul suffers in his jocks just a little bit as they countdown the Top 10 Pop Songs of the 21st Century. As if Paul's discomfort isn't reason enough to listen, Wayne somehow manages to stick to the brief(!), meaning all his choices are actual Pop songs. He still defends his idiot choices from the '90s episode though, so don't worry, there's still plenty of banter to enjoy. Can Paul conjure a half decent list? Will Wayne find ways to reference John Mayer at every turn? Learn the answers to all these questions and more, as The Countdown continues ...

Killers of the Flower Moon review Oct 31, 2023

Show notes

Every so often, an established podcast will post content that changes the landscape of its own journey.

This is one of those times. Join Paul and Wayne as they review legendary film-maker Martin Scorsese's latest crime drama epic - even as one of them breaks ranks to take a steaming dump all over Killer of the Flower Moon. Witness the potential beginning of the end of The Countdown as a podcast, as that co-host undoes 8.5 years of established credibility in one foul swoop, while the second co-host tries to throw himself over the grenade carelessly dropped by the other to limit the damage that stands to be done. Find out who is the co-host that dropped that grenade and determine whether you'll ever listen again ... as The Countdown sputters and maybe continues? Time Stamps: Killers of the Flower Moon NON-SPOILER Review: 0:00 - 16:08 Killers of the Flower Moon SPOILER-FILLED Discussion: 16:08 - 25:56

Top 10 Goriest Film Scenes Oct 27, 2023

Show notes

Countdown #445

It's Halloween, so it's time for The Countdown to bring the horror! Against all the odds, Paul has somehow convinced Wayne to get coated in (figurative) blood and countdown the top 10 goriest film scenes of all time! As regular listeners might imagine, Wayne takes to this challenge like a cat to water, moaning and complaining the whole time, while regularly reminding Paul and other horror fans like him how messed up they are. Of course, Paul delights in calling out Wayne as a precious snowflake and rags on his choices, meaning the stage is set for a classic episode of the show. But, please, be WARNED: Some of the descriptions in this Ep are extremely R-rated and listeners of a sensitive disposition might be too grossed out to continue listening.
