7 Days of Love from The Cine-Files: Remains of the Day Part 1 Feb 09, 2024

Show notes

The Cine-Files' Steve Morris and John Rocha continue their 7 Days of Love celebration leading up to Valentine's Day with today's re-release of their Remains of the Day episodes. One of the most memorable films about the tragic nature of unrequited or unpursued love featuring two tender, touching, and, at times, fierce performances from Sir Anthony Hopkins and Emma Stone. A film that quietly moves along like an iceberg thru the water yet like an iceberg has so much more going on below the surface. As you can tell, this one is one of our favorites. So Happy Valentine's Day, Cine-Files fans, and enjoy our chat on Remains of the Day!

7 Days of Love from The Cine-Files: Punch Drunk Love Feb 08, 2024

Show notes

Starting today, Steve Morris and John Rocha are celebrating Valentine's Day over the next week by rereleasing their favorite episodes covering movies about love every day for the next 7 days leading up to Valentine's Day! Today's rerelease is Paul Thomas Anderson's Punch Drunk Love starring Adam Sandler. Emily Watson, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Luis Guzman. Sandler and Watson are two unique and interesting people who have to overcome their respective social anxieties and multiple obstacles (including Hoffman's angry mattress man and phone sex line owner/operator) in order to find their way to love. One of the most distinctive films about romance ever made and one that, in Rocha's opinion, was responsible for slowing down the number of romantic comedies in recent years. Happy Valentine's Day, Cine-Files fans, and enjoy Punch Drunk Love!

363 Goodfellas Part 1 Feb 02, 2024

Show notes

You asked for it Cine-Files! In last year's listeners survey we asked which movie from the early days of the podcast did you want us to redo in our more in depth format. The answer wasn't even close, Martin Scorsese's gangster classic, Goodfellas. When we did this the first time, way back in 2016, the entire episode was just over one hour. This time part one is almost two hours.

Needless to say this is going to be several parts and we couldn't be more excited.

360 Groundhog Day Part 2 Jan 12, 2024

Show notes

John and Steve love this movie so much that they thought about going back to the beginning and starting Groundhog Day all over again but, in the end they decided just to record part 2. (you're welcome to put both episodes on a loop though, if that's your thing)
