Black Representation in Gaming - Ep. 232 Mar 16, 2021

Show notes

Hello everyone, and welcome to this week’s episode of the Chompcast! We dispensed from our usual light-hearted topic of the week to discuss something that has been on our mind since the events of last year: black representation in video games and the video gaming medium. Is the level and kind of representation in gaming sufficient and inclusive? Is there a lot of work that needs to be done to be more inclusive (spoiler alert: yes)? We were also joined by friend and guest, Marcus Worrell to offer some much-needed insight into the subject. Here is a charity where proceeds go to providing underrepresented communities with education needs and opportunities: https://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=8609&from=HotTopic-Grouped&fromlistid=233 Lastly, at the foot of the show notes will be some further resources to check out if you are interested in checking out more information or just seeing where some of the information in the show came from! https://science.howstuffworks.com/innovation/big-thinkers/jerry-lawson.htm https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gI-XKPh8Xd4 https://www.inverse.com/gaming/video-games-by-black-developers https://www.jstor.org/stable/10.5250/fronjwomestud.39.1.0112?seq=1 https://go.gale.com/ps/anonymous?id=GALE%7CA532022898&sid=googleScholar&v=2.1&it=r&linkaccess=abs&issn=01491830&p=AONE&sw=w

The world has been a weird place for the past year. Within the mix-up of everything that has happened thus far, we all have somehow gone 500+ days without a Nintendo Direct…until this past week. Last, we shared the results of the Patreon and the social media polls.

Meatus - Ep. 228 Feb 16, 2021

Show notes

“Gimme love,” Peach says to Mario as he carries her from Bowser’s castle. “You can’t keep getting caught like this, Peach. If this continues to happen, we will never be able to find the time to have little Marios and Peaches,” Mario explains. Peach scoffs and responds, “Listen. It’s not my job to fight off a fire-breathing, massive turtle. If you did your job as a plumber, you’d flush that turd out of our lives.” The two started to argue as they walked down the road, eventually starting to shout. Luigi, standing beside them the whole time, started to slow down, walking far enough behind them to be out of sight and out of the conversation. “LUIGI! IS IT MY FAULT THAT BOWSER KEEPS COMING BACK? CMON, ITSA ME!” Mario exclaims at his brother. Luigi looks to the right and sees a dark, endless pit. He looks back at Mario and hops inside. -1 life. Welcome everyone to this week’s episode of the Chompcast! We decided to discuss our favorite couples in gaming in the spirit of Valentine’s Day. Afterwards, we discussed the games that we have been playing, such as Cyber Shadow and Super Mario 3D World: Bowser’s Fury. We rounded up the show with two weeks’ worth of polls and Rich’s rendition of the CD Projekt Red ransom note sent to them. Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!
