Teacher, Youtuber and Author Talk with CJ Reynolds Jul 08, 2020
    Show notes

In today's episode, I'm going to be interviewing one of my favorite YouTubers, CJ Reynolds, or many of you may know him from YouTube as a Real Rap with Reynolds. And he is currently in the classroom, which is why I love this episode.

So many of you have asked us, can you please interview teachers that are still in the classroom? And I know exactly what you mean! When I was first starting my journey, I wanted to hear from other teachers that were working 40 hours a week, they were in the trenches with me and they were still building that side hustle. So that's what you're going to learn all about in today's show.

CJ Reynolds teaches high school literature and the history of hip hop in West Philadelphia. He is the author of Teach Your Class Off: The Real Rap Guide to Teaching. CJ is also the creator of a YouTube channel, Real Rap with Reynolds.

Reynolds' book and YouTube channel aimed at giving viewers an authentic glimpse into what it looks like to teach high school in the inner city while at the same time helping new and veteran teachers be the teacher they always wanted to be as an educator. CJ's bare bones teaching philosophy is simple in the classroom: relationships are king and the job of a teacher is always only ever about the students.

In this episode, you will learn:

    • What teaching in his classroom looks like
    • Why CJ started his YouTube channel and why he thinks you should too
    • His thoughts behind creating a community
    • How he got his parents on board with his YouTube channel
    • Why he believes some teachers are leaving the profession

Managing It All as a Teacher and Teacherpreneur May 27, 2020
    Show notes

I have to say that I feel like every single limiting belief that you could have might be squashed with this interview. In today's episode, I'm interviewing Megan Polk from Miss P's Style and she's going to be talking about what life looks like as a teacher and a teacherpreneur in 2020. She's finishing up her 14th year of teaching and she has taught all elementary grades and is currently a literacy specialist teaching students in first through fifth grade in Houston, Texas.

She started her TpT journey in July of 2015 while she was teaching fourth grade, and she's only ever worked in Title I schools with high ESL populations. She could see that her students had huge gaps in their learning and because of that, she took an interest in literacy. She made goals to support her students grow their confidence and help them find success in reading and writing. In March 2016, she began getting serious about creating materials for her students and was blown away by the improvements in her students' achievement, their motivation, and their success.

She loves creating differentiated resources tailored to her students' needs, and loves making an impact on their learning and livelihood. She took her success reports and took them to Instagram and there she has been able to connect with thousands of teachers all over the world. She truly is an inspiration, not only to teachers, but to CEO teachers everywhere.

In this episode, you will learn:

    • Megan's journey on getting her online teaching journey started
    • What it looks like being in the classroom and growing her business, especially during the current pandemic
    • Her amazing Instagram growth
    • How she stays on top of all of her tasks and business
    • The one thing she wishes she would have started from the very beginning
