Today’s millennial word of the day is granola girl as in a crunchy, outdoorsy, and nature-obsessed.

Starbucks controversy kicks off today’s driveway dump with a refresher drink scandal that has Lizz utterly un-shook. Kelly and Tyler are making the big switch to pot coffee. And Fred might be facing an egg allergy that has Kelly super bummed.

A listener writes in for advice on how to adapt to three kiddos in her 2022 Blazer that is a company car. Should she ask for an upgrade? Does she have her husband drive the company car? Kelly and Lizz say go for the bigger drive, even the Graco slim fit car seats won’t easily accommodate three across. Another listener wonders, “Did a group trip ruin our friendship?” Kelly and Lizz spill their advice on letting park friends be park friends.

Kelly’s fast lane philosophy is, “If you want to change the world go home and love your family,” and who would disagree?

In industry news Kelly and Lizz’s Lexus TX trip fell through and Tesla prices now rival US cars after billions in cuts.

Ditch the drive-through is coming to you from Andrea today. Her fish tacos are always a hit and can be thrown together in 20 minutes. All you need is: frozen breaded fish filets, coleslaw cabbage mix, coleslaw dressing, pico de gallo, shredded cheese, Sriracha mayo, and corn tortillas.

Blake’s besties honor little ones we lost too soon for infant and pregnancy loss awareness month. Today we’re remembering the sweet memories of Stephanie’s baby Titus William, Jill’s baby Julian Matthew, and Katie’s babies Bella Tate Gibson and Miles Lane Gibson.

→ Hey Carpooler! Are you driving a Tesla Model Y? Then it’s your week to hop on over to the reviews and leave your rating for the show!

Delulu is today’s millennial word of the day as in, “Staying delulu is the solulu.”

Kelly and Sydney make up sayings that don’t exist — that you can use generously to confuse your friends or husband. Gems include, “If you don’t want to stub your toe, put your shoes on or don’t walk at all,” and, “Even Michael Phelps wouldn’t challenge a mermaid.”

→ Write in and share your sayings that don’t exist or ask for advice! Send Kelly and Lizz an email to get your question featured on the show at hello@thecarmomofficial.com

Last three transactions, where Kelly, Lizz, and Sydney reveal their bank account subtractions, gets a trendy infusion today. Sydney’s just bought her first period panties, a pair of very buckley Steven Madden moto boots, and a black silk skirt. Lizz is continuing her curly hair journey with a silk pillowcase and also picked up a pair of Express pants and a Nose Frida for the babe. Kelly splurged on a Black belt from Boden and ordered a doctor kit for Hattie.

Nancy, a 55 year old listener with teenagers writes in with today’s ditch the drive-through, The Italian Iowa Slinger.

Brown your ground protein of choice and then add Rao's marinara, garlic powder, onion powder, and dried Italian herbs. While that's all mingling, heat up your favorite garlic bread in the oven and then serve your sloppy slingers on sliced garlic toast.

Gen Z is at it again — making something cute that shouldn’t be and inspiring today’s millennial word of the day, Menty B.

Kelly’s back to driving demos and currently loving the low lift luxuries in the 22 Chevy Tahoe. The sinker vs swimmer mentality that Kelly and Lizz’s mom made family famous is what today’s fast lane philosophies (formerly musk moments) are all about.

The next Crocktober recipe is coming to you from listener Valerie. Her Swedish meatballs are an easy ‘dump’ recipe: one can of cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, onion soup mix, two tablespoons of A1, frozen meatballs, sour cream, and egg noodles.

LIZZ'S CONTROVERSIAL CLOSET CLEAN OUT Sep 28, 2023
    Show notes

Making Carpool headlines today is none other than Taylor Swift and her new beau, Travis Kelce. Kelly and Lizz are so here for this cheerleader-gets-the-football-player moment.

→ Hey Subaru Ascent mamas! It’s your turn to head on over to the Carpool reviews, leave Kelly and Lizz a rating, and shout out your ride.

Driveway dumps feature Lizz’s controversial closet clean out. She and Kelly did a huge postpartum closet purge because too many options — especially ones that don’t fit — aren’t always a good thing. Kelly is struggling with becoming a ‘snack house’ and longs to get her ‘ingredient house’ days back. You know, the ones that remind her of a childhood filled with salami snowflakes and American cheese slices after school.

Lizz is getting the ick from a few bizarre bridal trends and Kelly has done the hard work of attending a vague money influencer’s four-hour masterclass to spill their secrets in seconds to you. The gals share their feelings about automotive influencers and get ready to kick off Crock-tober with Kate from @naptimekitchen.

→ Sign up for the Car Mom emails to get your Crock Pot recipe every Friday and check out the first Crock Pot recipe of the month — Honey Butter Chicken.

In industry news, auto spies have caught photos of a redesigned Buick Enclave crossover, Kelly has mixed feelings about celebrity spokespeople in the auto industry, and brand loyalty is declining in new drivers.

HOME DECOR IS TOXIC Sep 26, 2023
    Show notes

Kelly and Lizz are ready with mom hacks galore today, but still haven’t solved how to be sick as a mom. And if you’re in ‘The age of Fred’ alongside Kelly, Lizz wants you to know “You’re doing a hard job beautifully.”

→ Calling all Hyundai Tucson drivers! It’s your week to head on over to the Carpool reviews and leave Kelly and Lizz a rating and message about why you love the show!

Today’s millennial word is glazing. When you’re glazing someone, you’re over hyping and ‘sucking-up.’

Mom math kicks off Lizz’s driveway dump. Kelly’s house looks like she and her kids are in a ‘tornado in, tornado out’ situation. And the duo talks about letting kids help with home decor. They love the advice to bring a cute decor item to the trash can section and see if it still shines, but they’ll be heading to the toy aisle to see their find next to a slew of hot wheels as their final test before buying.

Batiste dry shampoo, a shoe haul for Hattie, and a cast iron bread pan are Kelly’s last three transactions. She also talks capsule wardrobes — her favorite one being from Emily O and Bows. Lizz splurged on the oh so comfortable and darling Rothy’s Mary Jane’s, an Abercrombie haul, and Halloween jammies for James with the same bread pan as Kelly.

In industry news Kelly gives a UAW strike update, the IHS minivan second row passenger safety test is creating a stir, and the gals share why third-party safety tests are so important in the car market.

FAN BEHAVIOR ANNA LISA OF TRADER JOE'S 5 ITEMS OR LESS Sep 21, 2023
    Show notes

Trader Joe’s wake up and start sending today’s guest fat checks! Kelly and Lizz welcome guest Annalisa from one of their favorite Instagram Accounts @traderjoes5itemsorless for a little interview, great eight, and an epic ditch the drive-through.

In short, this episode is brimming with ‘fan behavior’, which is today’s millennial word of the day.

→ Attention Trader Joe’s fans and Nissan Rogue drivers! In honor of our guest today it’s your turn to hop on over to Apple Podcasts and leave a review.

Kelly and Lizz ask Annalisa all of the most important questions about her viral Instagram account including: what got her cooking, where she gets her inspiration, and which items she LOVES (those might just be the Vegan Tzatziki sauce and Kung Pao Chicken) and which item she’s still not over Trader Joe’s discontinuing. Lizz shares her grocery hubby shopping hack and the trio brainstorms the introduction of recipes with a couple more ingredients. Six-Ingredient Saturday, anyone?

Annalisa has approved today’s Trader Joe’s great eight and she’s got a recipe in store for (almost) every item on the list: microwavable jasmine rice, dark chocolate peanut butter cups, frozen meatballs, the burger sauce, hash brown patties, frozen, roasted potatoes, gorgonzola gnocchi, and chimichurri sauce. Which one is a unanimous win? Listen in to find out.

A Carpool exclusive ditch the drive-through from Annalise includes a delicious filet of salmon and fiocchetti with pink sauce from the Trader Joe’s freezer. Check out a few of Kelly, Lizz, and Annalise’s other favorite recipes to get you out of your dinner rut and round out your menu this week: the viral Braised Beef Roast with Demi-Glaze, Crock-Pot Chicken Curry, Curry Chicken Meatballs, Argentinian Shrimp Tacos, Garlic Sauce (click for a recipe using this ingredient), Soy-aki Sauce (click for a recipe using this ingredient).

WE STARTED THE "ROMAN EMPIRE" TREND Sep 19, 2023
    Show notes

An iconic Detroit trip, auto industry drama, and Sloppy Joe rebrand — what’s not to love on this jam packed episode?

Lizz discovered today’s millennial word of the day on a Gen Z reel recently. ‘Pog champ’ is a way to show excitement and hype in the gaming world that is creeping its way into mainstream lingo.

The gals have massive dumps to share today, starting with the Roman empire trend that Kelly is certain Lizz started. Try it yourself: ask your husband how often he thinks about the Roman empire and if he thinks he could land a Boeing 737 plane. Kelly and Lizz wonder what the female version of the trend is and Kelly reveals how often she thinks — and how little she actually knows — about Hellen Keller. Why are children’s books depressing for no reason? Lizz may not have the answer, but she certainly has questions. Kelly recaps her iconic Detroit trip and says if she was a Telluride she’d be shaking in her boots about the new GMC Acadia redesign.

Skip a trip to the grocery store *and* ditch the drive-through. Is it too good to be true or is it Hello Fresh? Yes, you really can get farm fresh, seasonal ingredients and easy dinner recipes delivered right to your doorstep. Hello Fresh is America’s #1 meal kit for a reason. Make breakfast, lunches, and snacks easier, too, with the Hello Fresh market packed with chef-selected favorites.

→ Head over to hellofresh.com/50carpool and use code 50CARPOOL for 50% off your first month plus 15% off your next two months.

What should an engaged 27 year old listener do about her teddy bear on her honeymoon? Kelly sheepishly shares her embarrassing take on today’s advice segment. She and Lizz also agree with a listener who wrote in about a confusing car giveaway.

→ Write in your icks and ask for advice! Send Kelly and Lizz an email to get your question featured on the show at hello@thecarmomofficial.com

Industry news is bringing the drama with a UAW strike for higher wages and benefits from the big three: Stellantis (Chrysler, Doge, Jeep, Ram), Ford, and General Motors. Workers are looking for a 40% pay increase to match the company’s CEOs and a return to their full benefits package.

In Musk moments, Kelly and Lizz share the power of the quote and practice, “Sometimes thank you goes further than I love you,” and why they, “Don’t fight tired.”

The humble and delicious Sloppy Joe needs a rebrand. Kelly is here to make it happen on today’s ditch the drive-through and Lizz is coming in hot with a new name to shake things up — Iowa slingers.

→Are you a Carpool listener from Iowa? Then it’s your day to head over to the Carpool reviews on Apple podcasts and leave a review! Let Kelly and Lizz know if they’re doing your state justice with their culinary creativity.

Metallic ballet flats are today’s millennial trend of the day inspired by none other than Kelly and Lizz’s favorite Gen Zer, Sydney. Sydney’s shopping, saving, and fashion investment strategies along with inspo from Merrick White and Styled by Kim KJ might just inspire you to splurge on an investment piece or two yourself.

Kelly and Lizz reflect on their favorite parts of the Car Mom Auto Show and what they’ll do differently next time. The preview event the night before was a hit with 50 guests and swag bags. Blake’s mom, Rachel, from Blake’s besties was an emotional surprise, lawyers are using the millennial word of the day as conversational ice breakers, and the Auto Show weekend was one woman’s birthday gift. Shannon, the unofficial head of the first Car Mom Auto Show was in attendance as well as the Car Mom’s website girl and daycare provider. In total, 2000 guests of all ages from middle schoolers to mom and daughter duos showed up and showed out!

Event sponsors were amazing, with Continental Tire providing a free set of tires on the spot to a mom with a flat, spontaneous Mockingbird stroller giveaways stunning the crowd, and Lizz is already loading up her online cart with lavender goodies from one of the stellar vendors. What’s in store for next year: an iced honey latte truck? Voting for favorites? New locations? Stay tuned to find out!

Maddie recently decided to get YouTube TV to watch football this season. Sure, great, but Lizz is looking to cut back on subscriptions they aren’t using to pay for the new one. So, she turned to Rocket Money, a personal finance app that finds and cancels your unwanted subscriptions, monitors your spending, and helps lower your bills all in one place.

→ Cancel your unused subscriptions and manage your money the easy way by going to rocketmoney.com/carpool

Buckle up for NEW SEGMENTS on the Carpool today! Kelly and Lizz are taking a note from the Bestie Business Banter podcast with Rebecca and Lauren that Kelly was recently featured on. And the gals are already dreaming about the future of the Car Mom Auto Show. They can’t wait to bring you a full recap soon!

→ Hey Jeep Wagoneer moms! It’s your week to show up in the Carpool reviews, leave the show a rating, shout out your ride, and let Kelly and Lizz know what you love about the show.

Today’s millennial word of the day is ‘beekeeping age’ — the Gen Z way of saying ‘silver fox’ or ‘zaddy.’

A light driveway dump brings you things that seemed SO embarrassing in grade school that just aren’t anymore. If you ever had to blow your nose in public — ew! — wear white socks to school — gasp! — or were totally out of the TV show loop, you can probably relate.

With a title still to be determined, this next segment is an opportunity to celebrate the little, low-lift luxuries in life. Typology is making Lizz feel fancy and Kelly is loving showering with the lights out and just a candle lit.

Musk moments goes marriage this week as Kelly and Lizz discuss how to be on your phone less, start conversations with your partner, and micro date to mix things up.

Today's episode is also brought to you by Athletic Greens. No time for a complicated supplement routine in the morning? One scoop of AG1 every morning in a glass of water is a simple routine that sets you up for success. Every scoop of AG1 is packed with 75 vitamins and minerals and whole foods sourced ingredients. Support your gut and mood, boost your energy, and hair, skin, and nail health.

→ Grab your free one year supply of vitamin D and five free travel packs with your first purchase. All you have to do is go to athleticgreens.com/carpool

Industry news is full of hot goss this week with the top and bottom states for EV adoption announced. Since United Auto Workers are clashing with the big three, a strike could start mid-September. And The Armchair Expert with Jim Farley (CEO of Ford) is bringing mixed reviews.

Style it with Trix is featured in today’s ditch the drive-through, Dump and Bake Ravioli Pizza Casserole. Check out her instagram for more delicious recipes!
