The Context of White Supremacy hosts the 4th study session on Vincent Woodard's The Delectable Negro: Human Consumption and Homoeroticism within US Slave Culture. Mr. Woodard died in 2008, but this book was posthumously published in 2014. NYU Press explains the why this book was written; "Scholars of US and transatlantic slavery have largely ignored or dismissed accusations that Black Americans were cannibalized." Woodard excavates primary sources, like the writings of Olaudah Equiano and Frederick Douglass, as well as black newspapers and slave advertisements from the antebellum period. Last week's session explored how an enslaved black male was literally quartered by his master as a form of discipline. Woodard also described multiple incidents where White sailors admitted to acts of cannibalism against black shipmates. Woodard stresses the White sense of shame about these events being publicized as well as the private White fraternity forged by the common experience of plundering and consuming black people. Many themes investigated in this book, are staple elements of White culture, visible in the 21st century - like convicted serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer or the delicious "black man cookies". The Context of White Supremacy hosts our Thursday weekly caucus on Workplace Racism. This broadcast is specifically designed to improve our problem-solving abilities and to refine how black people think, speak, act and control our emotions while at work. Any listeners who have figured out the best strategies to minimize conflict with White and/or non-white co-workers, avoid demotions, write-ups, terminations or the other usual troubles we experience under Racist labor conditions should be first to dial in and share specifics. We always welcome the experiences of Black "entrepreneurs;" please, report how being "self employed" reshapes your contact with Whites on the job. The C.O.W.S. Keith Beauchamp Wonders If Emmett Till Book Protects a Killer Feb 15, 2017

Keith Beauchamp returns to The Context of White Supremacy. Maker of the 2005 documentary The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till, Beauchamp's research into Till's 1955 lynching sparked the Department of Justice to re-open their investigation into the killing. Mr. Beauchamp worked with Till's mother, Mamie Till Mobley, for eight and a half years. We'll get Mr. Beauchamp's perspective on Timothy B. Tyson's new book on this subject, The Blood of Emmett Till. Tyson's primary talking point is his 2008 exclusive interview with Carolyn Bryant Donham, the White Woman who falsely accused Till of sexually accosting her. Ms. Donham admitted to Tyson that she lied. he Context of White Supremacy welcomes the operator of the Black Women of Brazil blog. The website "is a photographic and informational blog featuring a diverse array of Brazilian Women of African descent. As much of the English speaking world is not familiar with the history of African descendants in Brazil, it also features news, essays, reports and interviews spanning an array of topics including race, racism, hair, affirmative action, police brutality, etc. intended to give a more complete view of the experiences of black women in particular and black people in general in Brazil with a goal of provoking discussion through the lens of race." Since Brazil has the highest population of black people in the Western hemisphere, this region is an important area of counter-racist study. The 2016 Olympic games were held in Brazil, but the extravaganza did not improve the quality of life for black Brazilians. We'll compare and contrast how Racism is typically discussed in South America with our general racial dialog in the US. We'll use these sessions to hone our use of words as tools to reveal truth, neutralize White people. We'll examine news reports from the past seven days and - hopefully - promote a constructive dialog. #ANTIBLACKNESS President Donald J. Trump's contested immigration restriction remains temporarily blocked after an appeals court backed last week's ruling. The week wasn't a total loss for the Trump administration, as Betsy DeVos and Jeff Sessions were each confirmed as Secretary of Education and Attorney General respectively. Both nominees faced fierce - and, ultimately, impotent - opposition to their appointments. One of the more vocal critics of federal bureaucrats, Nevade rancher Cliven Bundy's trial is set to commence for his 2014 armed showdown with government officials. Some observers predict "White nationalists" will be emboldened if the Bundy patriarch is not convicted for his militant defiance of federal authority. Showing the opposite end of police tactics, French officers are accused of anally raping a black male. Al Jazeera reports the "police investigation concluded that the anal rape of a young black man by an officer using a truncheon was an accident." The Context of White Supremacy hosts the 3rd study session on Vincent Woodard's The Delectable Negro: Human Consumption and Homoeroticism within US Slave Culture. Mr. Woodard died in 2008, but book was posthumously published in 2014. NYU Press describes the void this book aims to fill; "Scholars of US and transatlantic slavery have largely ignored or dismissed accusations that Black Americans were cannibalized." Woodard unearths primary sources, like the autobiographies of Olaudah Equiano and Frederick Douglass, as well as black newspapers and slave advertisements from the antebellum period. Last week's session provided a comprehensive re-examination of how black bodies were literally and figuratively devoured by Whites during slavery. In one of the most profound segments of the text, Woodard writes: "Elaborating on the culinary connotations of the word â??seasoningâ?? (season: â??to heighten or improve the avor of food by adding condiments, spices, herbs, or the likeâ??), I link the physically brutal culture of seasoning to the parallel development of erotic appetites, tastes, and aesthetic longings for the black male. This broader understanding of seasoning is important, as it helps explain how institutional processes, such as Christian indoctrination, male fraternal love and bonding, and the acquisition of literacy facilitated the social consumption of the Negro and the creation of a high cultural premium upon African flesh." While the much of the planet locks in for Super Bowl 51, The Context of White Supremacy re-visits attempted counter-racist and third generation psychiatrist Dr. Frances Cress Welsing. Author of The Isis Papers and founder of the Cress-Welsing Institute of Psychiatry and Social Research, Dr. Frances Cress Welsing visited The C.O.W.S. for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s 2012 holiday. The subject of her visit was the cycle of White predators hunting and consuming black people. We examined the cases of Jeffrey Dahmer and Jerry Sandusky. Dahmer was convicted of butchering, sexually exploiting, and eating the melanated bodies of his Wisconsin victims. Sandusky was convicted of raping an untold number of children over a number of years; there's suspicion that Sandusky specifically violated black children. This discussion is significant for our current review of Vincent Woodard's The Delectable Negro. Trump christened Black History Month for 2017 by giving a less than stellar report on orator and attempted counter-racist Frederick Douglass. The new president revealed his affinity for dark people by moving forward with a ban "halting all refugee programs and immigration from certain Muslim nations." Large numbers of Whites have railed against this measure - which could be a deliberate act to confuse non-white people. In Canada, Alexandre Bissonnette, a Suspected White Terrorist, initiated a Dylann-Roof-like attack on a Muslim mosque. He's accused of shooting at a crowd of approximately 50 people, killing six. Many pundits posit that anti-muslim, racist rhetoric inspires these slaughters. Speaking of Race Soldiers, convicted serial rapist Daniel Holtzclaw filed an appeal in Oklahoma. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the 2nd study session on Vincent Woodard's The Delectable Negro: Human Consumption and Homoeroticism within US Slave Culture. Mr. Woodard passed away in 2008, but his work was posthumously published in 2014. NYU Press describes the void this book written to fill; "Scholars of US and transatlantic slavery have largely ignored or dismissed accusations that Black Americans were cannibalized." Woodard excavates primary sources, like the writings of Frederick Douglass and Harriet Jacobs, as well as antebellum black newspapers and slave advertisements. Last week's session provided a comprehenisve outline of what The Delectable Negro intends to cover. There was a particular emphasis on the sexual and exploitative environment of the plantation, the colony, the world. The introduction assertively concludes that enslavement and colonization of dark people was a sexually gratifying experience for Whites. Male and female black bodies were literally and figuratively devoured.
