Rekindling a number of contested points, many ask how to distinguish between those who've been vaccinated. Regardless, many regions are reducing or totally ditching mask requirements and preparing for a return to "normal" this summer. On the East coast of the U.S., "panic-buying" of gasoline has caused shortages, price hikes and confrontations at filling stations. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly summit on Neutralizing Workplace Racism. The "gay Rosa Parks" Ellen DeGeneres announced the end of her television eponymously named television series. The actor was accused of practicing Racism by members of the show's staff. President Joe Biden prompted citizens not to turn down opportunities to return to the workforce to continue pocketing unemployment benefits. Numerous companies report having staff shortages which are allegedly responsible for a variety of shortages across the world. Amidst the chaos and confusion, Covid-19 continues to be a problem. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the 11th study session on Jack Olsen's Last Man Standing: The Tragedy and Triumph of Geronimo Pratt. Olsen is a White man, and a prolific author. He wrote for Sport Illustrated during the turbulent 1960's, and penned a celebrated series examining black athletes and Racism. The magazine also credits Olsen with writing one of the best biographies on boxing icon and attempted counter-racist Muhammad Ali. Last week, Olsen detailed the CBS "60 Minutes" interview of Pratt. The piece aired in 1987, and seemed like it was probably edited by FBI enforcement officials. Pratt's White female prison counselor (L. Atkinson), continued to advocate for Pratt against her fellow co-workers wishes. Flexing her White might, Atkinson sued the Department of Corrections for $100,000 for workplace abuse, ditched the penitentiary and became pen-pals with Nelson Mandela. Before exiting, she severely admonished Pratt for not holding a grudge against Huey P. Newton. The White woman called Newton a "dickhead" and chided Pratt to recognize his "enemies." Newton was shot and killed shortly after being released from prison. The year's worth of disruption resulting from Covid-19 allowed many powerful White people to hang out at home on zoom since last spring. Meanwhile, lots of non-white workers have been forced to continue commuting to a physical location. This new divide may be permanent for some, as a number of powerful workers will be allowed to continue to remain at home for all or a substantial portion of their work week. C.O.W.S.'s listeners have reported this exact dynamic - their White supervisors have "Zoomed" in their pajamas, offering remote (often, useless) managerial support. We'll also discuss one work site where workers are demanding the right to discuss politics and current events on the job. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the 10th study session on Jack Olsen's Last Man Standing: The Tragedy and Triumph of Geronimo Pratt. Olsen is a White man, and a prolific author. He wrote for Sport Illustrated during the turbulent 1960's, and penned a celebrated series examining black athletes and Racism. The magazine also credits Olsen with writing one of the best biographies on boxing icon and attempted counter-racist Muhammad Ali. Last week, Olsen detailed Pratt's frustration with being caged while his wife Ashaki struggled to parent two children by herself. Pratt's hopes were repeatedly dashed when White judges rejected his appeals for a new trial. Their dismissals generally included insistence the Julius Butler was not an FBI informant, and that Pratt had received a "fair" (although not perfect) trial. Of the 11 fatalities, 5 were black children. Two prestigious, White dominated institutions, Princeton and U Penn, acknowledged that they've retained and, apparently, now lost the remains of a MOVE child. Speaking of killing black people, the FDA announced a move to prohibit menthol in cigarettes and tobacco products. White Supremacists have deliberated poisoned/targeted black people with menthol cigarettes - which are reportedly highly addictive. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the 9th study session on Jack Olsen's Last Man Standing: The Tragedy and Triumph of Geronimo Pratt. Olsen is a White man, and a prolific author. He wrote for Sport Illustrated during the turbulent 1960's, and penned a celebrated series examining black athletes and Racism. The magazine also credits Olsen with writing one of the best biographies on boxing icon and attempted counter-racist Muhammad Ali. Last week, Olsen described a minor victory for the Pratt team when the Vietnam veteran was released from years of solitary confinement and allowed to return to general population. Pratt detailed being astonished to have a toilet as well as access to plates, utensils, and entrees other than sliced bread and gruel. Apparently, many of the younger non-white inmates held Pratt in high regard and invested their time improving his living quarters and preparing him special meals. Unfortunately, the wins were minuscule. Pratt was denied a new hearing by Judge Kathleen Parker and was left to face the prospect of being caged for life. Johnnie L. Cochran Jr., while working for the LA District Attorney's office (the same division he would later trounce during the O.J. Simpson trial), announced to his White colleagues that Pratt was an innocent man. We’ll examine news reports from the past seven days and – hopefully – promote a constructive dialog. #ANTIBLACKNESS After a year of international protests over the murder of George Floyd, for the first time in the history of Minneapolis, Minnesota, a White officer was convicted for killing a black male. The jury convicted Chauvin on all counts, and he'll be sentenced later this year. While many labeled this a watershed moment in stopping police terrorism against black people. There were a number of black people killed by police during the waning days of the trial. As Chauvin's jury deliberated, Daunte Wright was executed by a White female officer in Minnesota. In Columbus, Ohio 16-year-old Ma'Khia Bryant was killed by enforcement officials. In Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis helped usher in new laws that add draconian punishments for public protests. And contrary to theories that black male rappers marinate in their riches and fame, in the last 10 days, former hip-hop icons DMX (Earl Simmons), Shock G (Gregory Edward Jacobs), and Black Rob (Robert Ross) all died.
