The Context of White Supremacy hosts the 8th study session on Woody Allen's Apropos of Nothing. One of the most critically revered movie-makers of all time, Woody Allen is a New York City and entertainment icon. In addition to his flicks, he's an acclaimed comedian, a concert-playing musician, and bestselling author - Apropos of Nothing being his most recent text. Published in 2020, the autobiography recounts his life, entertainment career, and "romance" with Soon-Yi Previn. In addition to being non-white, adopted/abducted from Korea, Previn is thirty-five years younger than Allen. Despite a damning Child Protective Services investigation and years of allegations of child rape and sexual abuse of children, Allen remains beloved my hoards of Whites. We'll examine this work for what it reveals about White culture. During our last reading, Allen details how he and Soon-Yi sneaked out of the country to be "secretly" married. He ladles contempt on White "liberals," like Gloria Steinem and Murray Kempton who covered the court proceedings in the 1990's. Allen declares they "had it in for him," and wouldn't even consider that he was the victim of a "possible miscarriage of justice." In spite of this, Allen acknowledges officers accorded him substantially more courtesy than the typical treatment of black male criminal suspects. Allen's narcissism and egoism drip from each sentence. He describes weeping fathers who're struggling with divorce and limited visitation with their children. They seek out Allen for sympathy or perhaps a teaspoon of Hollywood privilege to help their case. Allen sees no commonality around fatherhood with these New York dads. This broadcast is intended to encourage participation from non-white people in different parts of the world and Victims of Racism who are not able to join during the normal broadcast time. The global nature of White Supremacy was flagrantly displayed this week as the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia formed a security alliance to counter the threat of China. We'll discuss the implications of this international White alliance and how this coalition is being discussed in other parts of the world. We'll make our mandatory monthly check-in on how the Covid-19 confusion. Whites in Canada, New York City and Australia engaged in rowdy protests in opposition to vaccine mandates or "passports." Biles blamed "the entire system that enabled" Nassar's sexual terrorism. Speaking of enabled, Washington D.C. prepares for a tense week of White protests as militant thousands are expected to demonstrate their support for the January 6th terrorists. Ironically, most of the folks who joined the criminal fracas earlier this year have not been prosecuted to the fullest extend of the law. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly forum on Neutralizing Workplace Racism. The workplace remains confusing and chaotic as covid-19 polices change by the minute. In Washington state, new mandates require proof of vaccination for King County patrons at restaurants and bars, but employees of these venues are not subject to the same mandate. In the very same Washington, 1,000 of state employees applied for vaccine exemptions and groups of Whites offer seminars on acquiring religious exemption from the jab. We'll discuss what's happening in our respective work environments and offer suggestions on how to navigate the unprecedented workplace upheaval. Allen insists that he was duped by Farrow's blue-eyed feminine wiles. He describes her White family members as criminal scofflaws, while asserting that he had more traditional family roots and no unlawful relatives. Allen writes as if readers forgot him describing his family's gang-banging connections and love of firearms. Allen then details his budding attraction to Soon-Yi while hanging out at Knicks's basketball games. Woody tells us that he and Soon-Yi became intimate after she started college - and was of legal consenting age. He describes the "lust filled beginnings of their romance" - which led to a nude photoshoot with Soon-Yi. Less attention was paid to the Patriot Act, "no-fly lists," and surveillance programs launched in the name of fighting "terrorism" (non-white people). Speaking of Terrorism, when not defying mask mandates and balking at vaccines, a Florida middle school was locked down after a pair of White teens arrested for plotting to massacre their classmates and teachers. President Joe Biden blasted unvaccinated citizens while implementing a vaccine mandate for millions of federal employees and sub-contracted workers. Numerous lawsuits and widespread White defiance is expected. That said, many businesses and universities instituted tough policies requiring employees to be vaccinated or face punitive measures including increased cost of health care, loss of hours or suspension in some cases. Published in 2020, the text recounts his life, celebrated career, and "romance" with Soon-Yi Previn. In addition to being non-white, adopted/abducted from Korea, and decades younger than Allen, Previn was Allen's stepchild. We'll examine this work for what it reveals about White culture. During our last reading, Allen went on the defensive, challenging allegations that he's sexually attracted to young girls. While citing his record of dating age appropriate women, he details his courting of Diane Keaton, who starred in the Godfather saga. Allen lets us know he "dated" Keaton's two other sisters as well. He clarifies his priorities saying he was "obsessed with gangsters, baseball players, jazz musicians, and Bob Hope movies." Not young girls. A New Orleans native, Brown survived Hurricane Katrina and helped the Tribune delivery powerful reporting on the myriad ways black residents were abused and purged from the city following Katrina. We'll discuss the impact of Hurricane Ida - which forced Brown to relocate to Texas.Crumbling infrastructure resulted in one million residents losing power following the storm. Many are still without power and running water.
