    The Brown Liquor Report

THE BROWN LIQUOR REPORT was birthed at the intersection of friends reuniting over heated and humorous discussion about politics and pop culture, chicken and liquor. It has quickly evolved from just an innovative way to catch up and share thoughts on hot topics, to a hot weekly podcast with an ever-growing following. It has emerged as a unique voice for Generation Xers who find themselves straddling ratchet and responsibility. It is the podcast for those who want to learn more about social justice, pop culture, and politics while enjoying the best 90’s hip hop beats and a pour of their favorite vice, free of judgment.

This week, Pepsi reminded minorities that all it takes for police brutality to end is to hire a narrow white lady to hand the cops a cold pop, Trump interrupted Scandal and attempted to distract the public from all of his scandals by popping off over 50 missiles at an empty used car lot in Syria, and Paula Patton's neck is still ridiculously muscular. So, sit back, pour yourself a Hennessy and Shasta, and enjoy our 58th episode. #DontStopListenListen #syria #putin #patreon #podsincolor #pepsi

Ep. 57 - Black Aunt Viv Still Trippin Apr 02, 2017
    Show notes

Press Secretary Sean Spicer continued the age-old American tradition of publicly disrespecting black women, and Black Twitter responded by snatching edges with #BlackWomenAtWork. Angela Rye went in on a bigot...again but this time on live TV. We discussed Gen. Michael Flynn is our favorite snitch that never was. His efforts to sell his story for freedom were about as valuable as paper food stamps. And can you believe our favorite Aunt Viv, Janet Hubert is still salty after 24 years, y'all! We cover all of that and more on this episode!!

Hello listeners!! We're back with another dope episode of The Brown Liquor Report. Our very own Count Niggula is back from SXSW, and he gives us a brief recap of all of the shenanigans in Austin, TX. Also, we discussed the GOP's failed attempt at repealing The Affordable Act and their unsuccessful effort to tarnish Obama's legacy, as well as the recent media attention (finally) given to the missing children in our nation's capital. On a much lighter note, we discussed Kendrick Lamar shaking the proverbial table on Friday with a new track out of the thin blue sky, and it sounds like he might be coming for Drake, J. Cole, and Big Sean. Be afraid; be very afraid! This news also brought up a lively discussion on who we would pick for the greatest rapper alive: K. Lamar or Andre 3000. Some Courvoisier and Coke would be clutch while enjoying this episode. So, pour it up, pour it up, and get into this new new!!

It's the original new new from your favorite podcast crew. We had a great time welcoming some dope guests on the show for our Black Now series to discuss a variety of topics in the age of 45. But we missed each other and we were happy to get back to eating chicken, drinking brown liquor, and politicking BLR style. This episode is a beautiful hodgepodge. We covered the 45 distraction cycle, our favorite members of Wu Tang, our plans to drop Ben Carson in Fargo and to never return, and why Van Jones is on thin ice (except with Petty because he makes her randy). We also played a couple of hands of University of Dope, an exciting and thought provoking card game that celebrates Hip Hop culture. All this and more on this episode. Download, share and listen and as always thank you for your support.

The Brown Liquor Report, February 24, 2017 (feat. Wes Felton, Alexandra Gelbard, and Dwayne Heard) Mar 01, 2017
    Show notes

For our last installment of The Brown Liquor Report presents "Black Now" for Black History Month 2017, we discussed the role of the arts (particularly music) in current and past resistance movements. To discuss these matters and so much more, we invited Wes Felton, one half of the legendary DC-based Cross Rhodes Band with Raheem Devaughn; Alexandra P. Gelbard, a PhD candidate at Michigan State University whose focus is on the sociological study of the African Diaspora, Culture, Music, Race, Religion, Memory, Consciousness, and Structural Interactionism; and Dwayne Heard, Assistant Director of Bands at Morgan State University. This was by far our liveliest episode to date. Wigs were snatched, tables were flipped like Jesus in the temple, ideologies were vehemently challenged, and there was even some light to moderate twerking during this episode. So, get into this new new, y'all. This one requires a few glasses of Bookers True Barrel Bourbon (neat of course). You know, the good stuff! Oh, and...The views and opinions expressed on this episode are those of our panelists and do not necessarily reflect the views of the hosts of this here podcast and shit.

And we're back with the fourth segment of Black Now we discussed leadership and social justice in the age of Trump. We had the special honor of politicking with Mary Tobin, a West Point graduate, board member of the Service Women's Action Network and founder of Tobin Leadership Consulting; and Dr. Asa Lee, assistant dean of community life at Wesley Theology Seminary. We discussed Trump's crumbling administration, what leadership requires of us today, who are our current leaders, and whether our movements require a figure head at all. And of course, we covered this and more with likka and humor. Take some time and give it a listen. And thank you for your support.

    Show notes

On this second installment of The Brown Liquor Report Presents "Black Now", we were joined by Panama Jackson from Very Smart Brothas to discuss the importance of independent black media in the Age of Trump and Alternative Facts. How should mainstream media handle this administration's attempts to discredit them? How responsible are media in creating this monster before and after the primaries? Are we concerned that certain independent news websites that we turn to the for the facts could be taken offline by an administration that is looking more and more totalitarian by the hour? How do we spread the news if that happens? All of these topics and more were discussed this week on yet another amazing, hilarious, and informative episode of the Brown Liquor Report. So sit back, relax, pour yourself a glass of Bulleit Bourbon 10 Year Old, and get into this new new!

The Brown Liquor Report presents Black Now. A new way to engage our listeners with fresh perspectives on current events, pressing news, and strategic planning for the apocalypse. It’s a concentrated dose of our classic format on the black-hand side with more liquor-infused humor. We’re kicking off this newness with a series of dope guests discussing some great topics. First up is B Fierce. A Philly born and D.C. made Libra Enchantress. Her talents include competitive bougieness, swirling red wine while judging others, and making waffles. She is a classically trained hedonist and mother of two. She joined us as we discussed relationships in the age of Trump. This is a great introduction to, “Black Now”. We had a ball and still managed to inform thepeople. Stay tuned! #DontStopListenListen #BLRpresentsBlackNow #PodcastsInResistance #PodcastsInColor #RedCupRatchet #MelinatedMedia
