But more importantly, it allows for stupid people to write stupid articles that show their stupidity, like at NPR where a reporter suggests we are sliding into minority rule. Interesting because the Left never complained when they were the minority and insisted on "minority rights." You see, stupid. Of course, nationalism is the root of the problem. Is America a "nation"? Nope. George Packer at The Atlantic identifies four American political cultures that he thinks are nearly irreconcilable. He doesn't believe in an amicable divorce, but he wonders how America is going to move forward--when we spring from the same headwaters--if we can't get along. Packer is living in a Lincolnian nationalist dream, and to him, the only path forward is a reconciled "nation." He builds his case on the anomaly of twenty year period after World War II. America had never been a nation before, and is now at a point where we see this again. I discuss Packer's piece in this episode of The Brion McClanahan Show.

Ep. 458: A 2nd Amendment Screw Up? Jun 10, 2021

Conservatives cheered a recent federal court decision to strike down California's "assault weapons" ban. The federal judge who issued the ruling suggested that an AR-15 was no more of an "assault weapon" than a Swiss Army knife. I agree, and thus it seems that this was a good day for the Constitution. Except it wasn't. The federal judge struck down a STATE law by using the faulty incorporation doctrine created by the Supreme Court half a century ago. This is the same logic used to justify a host of left wing causes and their application to the States, including Roe v. Wade. If conservatives want that case overturned--and it should be based on an originalist understanding of the Constitution--then the California "assault weapons" ban should stand as well. Jeremy Carl thinks we are in a new secession crisis. The culprit? Democrats who have seceded from traditional American society. To make matters worse for Carl, these Democrats control the general government and are using it to punish their opponents. Carl then suggests what we need is a Lincolnian response to the problem, but he is too blind (stupid) to see that his hero, St. Abraham, CREATED, the central government the Democrats are using to punish their opponents, just like Honest Abe did during the War. He also believes Americans need to use the States to block this nightmare of unconstitutional federal edicts, all while blasting the Democrats for doing the same thing before the War in 1861. June 6th, 2021 marked the 77th anniversary of Operation Overlord, better known as the D-Day invasion of Northern France during World War II. This was the beginning of another refounding of the United States. The men who stormed the beaches at Normandy that day or who died during the War didn't know it, but the political class had plans for a restructured America following the War, one based on a type of nationalism that Lincoln unleashed during the Civil War eighty years prior. Sometimes even neoconservative Lincolnites get something right. Michael Lind doesn't think Confederate statues should stay up, but he correctly identifies the real problem in modern America: Yankees.
