Fifty Shades of Black & White Part 1 | Bob & Zip +Ed Kelly | Bob Rivers Podcasts May 10, 2024

Show notes

We’re back after a few months of Bob getting medical attention. So much to catch up on with Zip and Ed.

Bob admits that he’s never known a Trans person, and we decide that’s going to change (.. In Part 2!)

If Joe Biden were smart, he’d go on Howard Stern every week, and make John Stewart his campaign manager. If not, get used to Trump: The Sequel.

The coolest new style of movie might just be the Netflix series “Ripley”. Vinyl has come back, why not Black and White video? Watch and be surprised how much you love it.

A rigorous discussion of AI includes the threat of copyrighted works being plundered, along with very real cool advances that will alter our world perhaps as much as the internet has.

Stay tuned for Part 2 and Thanks for listening… we missed you!

Steve Fossen, Heart Bassist/Cofounder | Heart by Heart | Somar Macek | Bob Rivers Podcasts Mar 22, 2024

Show notes

Steve Fossen, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Bassist and founding member of Heart is still touring and playing all over the country, with his soul mate Somar Macek. Heart by Heart sounds so authentic to the original recordings as they were played in the 70’s, you’ll swear you have travelled in time.

In this overdue podcast, Bob and Spike hang out with Steve and Somar. We dig into what it was like to be a RockStar playing in from of 400,000 fans, the philosophy behind the bands move to Canada, and how the song Magic Man catapulted the band to fame.

Fast forward to modern times. Steve accidentally meets the love of his life, who happens to look and sing remarkably like Ann Wilson. At first he and Somar play Heart songs as a duo, but inevitably they fall in love and get married. (Heart by Heart consists of Fossen, Macek, Heart Hall of Fame drummer Mike Derosier, multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Lizzy Daymont, and guitarist Chad Quist).

If you’ve missed the podcasts (thank you to those who reached out to say so), now that I’ve recovered from chemo, we’re back to make some more. I’m very grateful to all of you who listen.

All of the rare Heart pics and video footage provided by Steve Fossen.

Production by Michael McMorrow (He is the wizard behind the recording, production, and show design. I highly recommend Mike’s white glove service)

Gettin’ Trekky with BJ Shea & Amy Ulen | Bob Rivers Podcasts Nov 21, 2023

Show notes

Bob and BJ have been best friends and Trekkies for over 20 years.

BJ is still bummed that ‘The Bob Rivers Show – KZOK’ beat ‘BJ Shea – KISW’ for “Star Trek walk-on roles for the Show Host and a Listener”. Because I got to be on Star Trek. And he didn’t. I can’t blame him.

But had it not gone that way, we wouldn’t be having this insightful Podcast with Amy Ulen. Author, Teacher and so much more – Amy was the bonafide trekky and the lucky listener who joined me for the walk-on roles.

Prepare for Warp Speed!

Live long and prosper 🖖

Pete Salant, Legendary Radio Programmer | Ed Kelly | Bob Rivers Podcasts Nov 02, 2023

Show notes

Bob and Pete were 17 and 19 years old. If you remember top 40 radio, when we were kids, you might enjoy the behind the scenes story of 2 teenage best friends breaking a few rules and helping to create a radio station that’s still a success today.

They started working together just out of high school. Bob went on to a lifelong career hosting mornings. Pete Salant launched a #1 station in New York City, and became one of the top programming consultants in the country.

Along with Ed Kelly, we reminisce, but also celebrate the talent of today. Although the business has changed dramatically, there are so many great radio shows and podcasts to choose from. It’s a good time to be a listener and fan!

Tami Asars | Fall Color Hikes: Washington | Steve Stockman | Bob Rivers Podcasts Oct 15, 2023

Show notes

You may remember our podcasts with Tami Asars, and her dramatic tales live from the Appalachian Trail as she completed the Triple Crown of backpacking. Pacific Crest Trail, Continental Divide Trail, and The Appalachian Trail. Just looking up the mileage on those will give you blisters.

Tami never rests. She has a new book out, “Fall Color Hikes: Washington“.

We delve deeper into the rewards of becoming one with nature on the trails. And also snakes, bears, and other wild animals.

My cohost for this podcast is filmmaker author, lifelong friend and hiking buddy Steve Stockman. You’ll like his dry sense of humor and his book and video course “How To Shoot Video That Doesn’t Suck”.

These pop up podcasts are a bright spot for me these days, as some of you know I’m getting some chemo treatments to keep the big C at bay. It’s all good, we all know someone going through it… So if I seem a little fatigued and leaning back in my chair, or miss a week, that’s why.

Kudos to Michael McMorrow productions and our beloved David Lee for the stellar work adding graphics and postproduction to make these latest interviews shine.

Enjoy. And thank you for watching and listening.

Bob, Spike & Joe | Yes/Alan White Film Teaser | Bob Rivers Podcasts Oct 07, 2023

Show notes

Teaser: movie in-works about Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Alan White, drummer of Yes.

Bob Spike and Joe share latest what’s going in our lives…

The Jack and Spike show pairs our legendary cohost and friend will a brilliant young talk host named Jack Stine. Jack seems to have an encyclopedic memory, kind heart, and like Bob, a giant ego.

Downtown Joe always looks on the bright side of life. He has a new prescription that has a very pleasant side effect.

The world needs more love. (I know, that’s the opposite of clickbait).

Come for the Ad Hominem… Stay for Jesus! | Bob Rivers Podcasts Sep 02, 2023

Show notes

Journalist/Supermom, Maura Gallucci and Filmmaker/Author Steve Stockman join Andrew & I… News stuff will come up of course, but if we talk about our lives and what’s important to us each, I think that makes it interesting.

I acknowledge my treatments. I’ve been using my forced laziness to sit and talk with more friends than ever before. Side effects are not terrible, but it’s good to be near a couch and a bathroom.

I’m reading a book about Jesus. How did that happen? It has to do with Women’s Undergarments.

I feel guilty about the small things I’m buying on Amazon. Not the big stuff. The little stuff.

And I was sent a graphic. It could be the training manual for FOX. But let’s not dwell on politics too much. It’s kind of a “how to spot dishonest conversation” guide.

Bob Talks Induction | Radio Hall of Fame | Bob Rivers Podcasts Aug 19, 2023

Show notes

Bob and Zip hang out with Andrew Rivers. Bob talks for the first time about being inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame. How it feels, and who some of his biggest influences were. He and Zip do some reminiscing about dating in the late ‘70s, and the first time he met Lisa.

We had planned a fascinating interview with one of the most respected record producers in Rock and Roll, which unfortunately had to be postponed.

Andrew has just finished taping his special, and he’s got lots to talk about. They tape these things twice usually, so you get choices in the editing room. Turns out night one was very hot in Seattle, and a decision was made to turn off the AC so the sound wouldn’t be picked up in the recording. Let’s just say the 2nd night was less sweaty!
