Blackface is Racist Sep 09, 2022

Show notes

Because of course there's something racist to unearth in a contestant's past. Why on earth wouldn't there be? Why should casting and production have to vet the contestants they bring onto show after years of racism and violence perpetuated against marginalized communities? Why shouldn't we be running to accept Erich's half-assed apology? Why shouldn't we love and adore the resurgence of the Black square a la 2020? Why, why, whhhhhhyyyyyy?

In the midst of our frustration, Vic and Mi strive to hold a conversation about Blackface and it's history, this franchise's habit for sweeping incidents like these under the rug instead of resourcing themselves toward transformative justice, Erich's inability to acknowledge his actions as racist, and why we have to reassess the reliance on Black creators in this community to educate the masses. It can't just be us.

So Clearly Y'all Wanted Us To Talk About Nate (Teaser) Aug 12, 2022

Show notes

So, some news broke about Nate this week and honestly, we are tired. There's so much to get into here and as we couldn't even fit it all in this 45 minute episode, we'll have some more bonus content dropping this weekend in lieu of our weekly "Do Better Cis" that we release.

Once again Bachelor Nation has shown that they don't care about us (and by us we mean people of color) and truly their only goal is to reduce us to whatever predisposed stereotypes already exist in their minds. Is this a defense of Nate? Nah, but is this is reminder to view everything (and we mean EVERYTHINGGGG) with a critical eye? Absof*ckinglutely.

Gone Rogue: Unpaid Emotional Labor w/ Sophie & Mi Talk Critical Race Theory & Intersectionality Feb 05, 2022

Show notes

Mi joined Sophie this week to kick off Black History Month on the Unpaid Emotional Labor podcast. We talked about so freaking much but most importantly, we connected on the frameworks of Critical Race Theory and Intersectionality. How they've been mutilated by folks who don't read and what they actually mean when it comes to understanding the world around us and acknowledging disparities with marginalized communities. Especially Black ones.

It's Black History Month and this labor doesn't come freely so if you're willing to drop a coin in the collection plate of Black femmes, hit us here below:
