BHP 029: Tony Blauer | How To Manage Fear & Become a Human Weapon Jul 10, 2018
    Show notes

Over the last 4 decades Tony Blauer has created, refined, and taught his self-defense methods, known as the SPEAR System to Law Enforcement and Military agencies, as well as civilians around the world.

Through all of his experience, he’s convinced one thing determines our success or failure (or survival) in critical situations – and life in general: how we manage our fears.

In this episode, we talk about the fear response and how it limits us in both extreme (self-defense) situations and in our daily lives (anxiety, self-doubt, etc).
Tune in to find out how and why fear holds us back, and what we can do to properly channel this survival based response from our human body so we can control our fears and direct our life rather than allow those fears to sabotage our lives and dreams.

The Better Human Project Show Notes Ep. 29 – How To Manage Fear and Become a Human Weapon with Tony Blauer

BHP 028: Warrior, Monk, and Firebreather Gregory Amundson Jul 03, 2018
Show notes Properly introducing Greg Amundson requires a mental gymnastics effort that parallels the physical prowess one might expect from a founding athlete of CrossFit who’s performances garnered him the nickname firebreather.

On the surface, the ex- DEA Special Agent is one of the founding athletes of Crossfit, owner of Crossfit Amundson, an international speaker and the successful author of Firebreather Fitness, The Warrior and The Monk, and several other titles.

Beyond the resume exists an extremely caring, energetic human full of passion for life and all of it’s possibilities.

We had the good fortune of spending a few hours with Greg in the Better Human Project RV outside of his gym in Santa Cruz, California before another lung scorching hour inside his gym getting a taste of what it’s like to be a firebreather.

In this memorable conversation, Greg covers some soul igniting and thought-provoking topics like:

    • Fasting – not just dietary
    • Seeking crucible moments, challenging our minds and bodies
    • Finding the rhythm of life
    • The power of first words

    • There are two types of pain in this world: We have the CHOICE which type of pain it will be: The short term pain of discipline or the long term pain of regret. (10:40)
    • Actionable tools to build discipline in our lives (13:30)

BHP 024: Jeff Nichols | Retired Navy SEAL on Growth, Success & Happiness Jun 05, 2018
Show notes I’m lucky to call this man a friend. Jeff Nichols is one of the smartest and most thoughtful humans with whom I’ve had the pleasure to converse. Jeff is an exercise physiologist who has worked in the Human Performance Department for Naval Special Warfare, and is sought out by NFL and NBA teams as well as professional fighters. He’s also worked with top neuroscientists to use float tanks to help treat concussion symptoms. Those topics are woven into the discussion, but this conversation is unique, as it is the first time he’s openly discussed his personal journey of transformation over the last 12 months. While Jeff’s military career (retired Navy SEAL with double-digit combat deployments) obviously required bravery, vulnerability, and trust this is a different kind of bravery and vulnerability. This is about looking inward, revealing our flaws and doing the work we all must face in order to continue to grow and evolve. Much respect and many thanks to Jeff.

    • The importance of float tanks for overall wellness and how to go in with ZERO expectations. (15:12)

BHP 021: Ice Water Free Diver Kiki Bosch  May 15, 2018
    Show notes

When it comes to mental toughness, Kiki Bosch is one of best.

Kiki will see your cold showers and ice baths, then raise you a bikini-clad meditation on an iceberg followed by a minutes-long free dive under that same iceberg.

On it’s own, that willingness to face the cold is enough to make her a mental fortitude ninja. But, obvious pun intended, that’s only the tip of the iceberg. Kiki is also a sexual abuse survivor who is channeling her experience into positive lessons to help others learn to face their inner demons, trust, communicate, and connect with themselves and others.

A Wim Hof Instructor, Kiki recently came to Virginia Beach where she led a workshop to teach the fundamentals of mindset, breathing and cold exposure, and then joined me for an incredible episode of the BHP.

We talked about free diving, the benefits of cold exposure – both psychological and physiological – Kiki’s harrowing story of sexual abuse, her near death experience in the water, and her upcoming trip to Everest, where she will free dive in glacial lakes at extreme altitude.

While people wish to climb Mt. Everest, Kiki and her team hope to shed light on the melting glaciers that are forming dangerous lakes at elevations higher than any previously discovered lakes. These glacial melts threaten the villages below and weaken the structural integrity of the ice & snow pack of the mountain, making climbing an even more dangerous trek than ever before.

Sit back and enjoy this thrilling conversation that covers abuse, trauma, cold exposure, breathing, connection, trust, adventure, goodwill, and service to others.
