Taking you back to 3/8/2011 – In this Best Moments show we replay a portion of the first conversation I ever had with one, Craig Sharry who is the owner of Texas Pepper Jelly. In 2011, Craig had already been in the TPJ business and in the competition scene pretty heavily…but he had started this whole business about 5 years earlier. Over the years, Craig became quite a fierce and respected BBQ competitor in the Texas ranks and ultimately became the President of the IBCA for a while as well. As of the last interview I heard him do, on The Baseball and BBQ podcast, Craig has removed himself from the competition end of things, HOWEVER, the TPJ business is as strong as ever…and if you haven’t tried it…you are MISSING OUT!!

Taking you back to 3/6/2018 – This is something that I totally forgot about until I previewed this file a few weeks ago. Does anyone else remember when KFC was pushing their gravy…as in…this stuff is good enough to drink…I think they were actually telling people to just grab gravy and use it in various ways…one way was to make a gravy cocktail…no joke! Well, in successive weeks there was a push of KFC gravy…and then there was a subsequent shortage after the gravy push was made…weird time back in 2018. If you didn’t hear this bit when it originally aired then I urge you to listen…and I say “bit” because there are some vocal effects used to drive home a point…here it again for the first time on Friday…

By the way…this might have been the beginning of the “Boozeteen” bit I did with Jason King from Canada as well…I can’t confirm that but it certainly makes sense to me!

The Official NBBQA 2023 Recap With Managing Partner Kell Phelps. Feb 23, 2023

(February 21, 2023 – Hour Two)

10:14pm – Kicking of the the 2nd hour is the owner and managing partner of the NBBQA, Kell Phelps. As you might recall, the big annual conference for this organization took place this past weekend, so I wanted to have Kell come back on a give us the recap and how he thought it came off a few days after the event ended. I saw quite a bit of posting on it through various social media channels and I was surprised to see some of the people there that I did. It would appear that this might have been one of the more successful conferences that NBBQA has put together in recent memory!

10:35pm – We’ll finish up with Kell Phelps, take some feedback and MAYBE try out Clubdeck (Clubhouse) again since the new mixer is still “cat-pee free”.

As you might recall, Mike and I worked an event here in Northeast Ohio last September and his segments always do well with the audience, so I wanted to bring him in more often in 2023 and we start that tonight! We will cover some of the new Weber products that he has gotten to play around with, talk about some new recipes and also debate some hot topics in the industry right now.

9:35 pm – After Mike, new monthly guest in 2023, the creator of the Cookout News website, Wes Wright, joins me to talk about even more NEW live-fire news. I don’t recall a time in the past 10 years we have seen so much happen and Q1 hasn’t even come to a close yet! Wes and I will cover some of the items we didn’t get to last month and then talk about the companies that are lining up to really disrupt the market with their new products and ideas.

Taking you back to 2/2/2013 – Being featured this time around is one of the best competition BBQ’ers to every light a fire…especially if you’re talking about FBA events…he’s definitely on the short list of BEST EVER in that sanctioning body. He also got into the sauce business and has great success there…of course I am talking about the pitmaster of “Swamp Boys BBQ Team” Rob, “Rub” Bagby. I think if you were to go around to the cooks, both in KCBS and FBA, and ask what kind of person Rub is…100% of the people will say “best person ever” and will also say…most of the time if Rub’s at an event…everyone else is trying to grab the RGC because it was really tough to get over on Rub back in the day…so if you haven’t made his acquaintance yet…you’ll want to check him out coming up on Friday…and by the way, it does appear that the BBQ sauce is still available for sale…if I am not mistaken, I think that Jim Elser from Sweet Smoke Q is packing his sauce now…but don’t quote me on that. I hope you enjoy it

Last time Kosmo was on we talked about how much money it would take for him to sell the company and we also talked about the business coming out of the pandemic craze. We will get an update on business, if there’s any new offers to buy on the table, where his growth is forecasting in 2023 and we will also talk about the “Kosmo Unfiltered” podcast he has been doing and if he sees that continuing in the future.

10:35pm – Closing the show tonight is the Director of Product Management for Oklahoma Joe’s, Ray Peppiatt. OKJ has been releasing some new products the past few months and tonight we are going to talk about the latest one, The Marshall. We will talk about how long this one has been in development, why they release it now and why they went with a “center firebox” cooker. We will also talk about his background, how he came to OKJ and what it’s like working with 2 other big brands in the WC Bradley umbrella.

9:14 – Leading off the show tonight is our monthly guest and creator of Amazingribs.com, Meathead. Tonight, the topic of discussion is the difference between “drip pans and water pans”. Before that, or after that, we will talk about the production of his 2nd book and how that’s going. As many of you know, I have been extremely critical of this book and if it is actually going to happen, however, it does appear that I will be proven wrong after 10 years or longer (maybe not that long).

9:35 pm – Also in the first hour is our pal, Robert Moss, the contributing BBQ editor to Southern Living magazine. We have plenty of live-fire topics to discuss that include different cooking styles, different cooking vessels and this whole “4th slice of brisket being the best” that whipped around social media a few weeks back
