    S3E126 - Panic! At The Disco "Death of a Bachelor" - w/Erin Lee Aug 08, 2020
    Show notes

Panic! At The Disco - Death of a Bachelor Barry & Rob go WAY out of their comfort zones this week with returning guest Erin Lee (104.3 The Shark), as she brings in a record near-and-dear to her heart. While Panic! At The Disco's #1 selling "Death of a Bachelor" managed to escape our radar – it's admittedly not our usual cup of tea - there's no denying leader Brendon Urie's outsize talent, and the album's (AND Erin's) infectious positivity somewhat softened our cold, hard souls and made for a spirited conversation. Thanks as usual for being a great sport Erin!

S3E125 - The Damned "The Black Album" - with Mark Williams (The Jacobites) Aug 01, 2020
    Show notes

This week's guest Mark Williams (The Jacobites) calls in from the UK to discuss Britain's punk/goth titans The Damned and their fourth release, "The Black Album". Dark, tuneful and oh-so-eclectic, this 1980 double record had a huge impact on SO many post-punk and goth bands that followed, and although they are often considered also-rans in the Punk Rock triumvirate of The Ramones/The Sex Pistols/The Clash, we all agreed The Damned have more-than-earned a seat at the grownups table.

    S3E124 - The Teardrop Explodes "Kilimanjaro" - w/Gary Pennington Jul 25, 2020
    Show notes

Through the magic of the digital communication Barry and Rob once again reach across the pond to the UK for a spirited and surprisingly sober conversation with a fan of the show. When then-teenager Gary Pennington first heard The Teardrop Explodes 1980 debut "Kilimanjaro" he was blown away by their modern, neo-psychedelic sound. Leader and main songwriter Julian Cope has had quite a career since, both as a solo artist and author/cultural commentator, but it all began here…

    S3E123 - King Crimson "Discipline" - with Markus Reuter Jul 18, 2020
    Show notes

That Record Got Me High were very fortunate this week to have a guest who has experienced the music from a close proximity to the source. Touch guitarist Markus Reuter (centrozoon, Europa String Choir, Tuner, Stick Men, The Crimson ProjeKct, et. al)joined us by phone from Germany to "preach the gospel" about King Crimson's "Discipline," a life-changing work for Markus, and Barry as well. It remains consistent.

S3E122 - Nico "The Marble Index" - with Katie Jane Garside Jul 11, 2020
    Show notes

For many, Nico's harrowing second solo record "The Marble Index" is NOT an easy listen. This week's guest Katie Jane Garside (Daisy Chainsaw, Queenadreena, Ruby Throat, Liar, Flower) called in from across the pond to help us uncover the stark, poetic beauty of a record many now call her defining avant-garde masterpiece. Before Siouxsie Sioux, before Björk, before PJ Harvey…there was Nico.

S3E121 - Jefferson Airplane "After Bathing at Baxter's" w/Richard Metzger of Dangerous Minds Jul 04, 2020
    Show notes

Counter culture icon and Editor of Dangerous Minds (www.dangerousminds.net), Richard Metzger, dove into the psychedelic deep end of the pool to discuss a record that STILL gets him high: Jefferson Airplane's darker, heavier follow-up to Surrealistic Pillow, "After Bathing at Baxter's". Coffee was consumed, minds were expanded, and by the end the Summer of Love felt more like a hazy hangover. Support Rob and Barry, and That Record Got Me High at https://www.patreon.com/join/TRGMH

    S3E120 - Godspeed You! Black Emperor "F♯ A♯ ∞" w/Russell Mofsky Jun 27, 2020
    Show notes

This week's guest, guitarist Russell Mofsky, is a bit of a musical enigma. Co-founder of beloved South Florida punk band Quit and leader/creator of Surf/Lounge/Noir combo Gold Dust Lounge, Russel is a music-school geek who thinks like a poet. It's only fitting they he chose to discuss the dark, foreboding debut release by Canadian post-rock collective Godspeed You! Black Emperor, "F#A#∞" We do our best to dig into this expansive "soundtrack to the apocalypse", and the episode ends with an improvised in-studio jam with Russell and our own Barry Stock. "The car's on fire and there's no driver at the wheel…"

S3E119 - Frank Black "Teenager of the Year" - with Mark Guerita Jun 20, 2020
    Show notes

Show fan and "That Facebook Group Got Me High" creator Mark Guerita (his podcast nom de plume) sat in the hot seat this week to discuss one of his favorite records by one of his favorite artists: "Teenager of the Year" by another fan of the pseudonym – and Pixies mastermind - Frank Black. If you've never heard this clever, tuneful, wildly eclectic record before…strap in. Hey, it's all freedom rock!

S3E118 - Blue Öyster Cult "Tyranny And Mutation" with Mike Watt Jun 13, 2020
    Show notes

We explore the red, the black, and everything in between Blue Oyster Cult's "Tyranny and Mutation" with legendary bass player – and all-around good dude – Mike Watt (Minutemen, Firehose, The Stooges…) Hear Mike break down this surreal hard rock oddity and describe the effect this 1973 record had on him and best friend D. Boon while Barry and Rob do their best to keep up. When the stories are this good, sometimes you just have to shut up and listen…

S3E117 - Van Halen "Fair Warning" - with Juan Montoya Jun 06, 2020
    Show notes

We sat down with Nice Guy/Guitar God Juan Montoya (Moon Destroys, MonstrO, Torche, Killer Be Killed) to discuss a record that kept his teenage self up at night, Van Halen's 1981 release "Fair Warning". Widely considered their "darkest" record, it's the sound of a band breaking apart at the seams, as guitar virtuoso and control-freak Eddie Van Halen attempts to wrestle his namesake band from the clutches of David Lee life-of-the-party Roth. Lord, strike that poor boy down…
