    The House Jan 24, 2022
    Show notes

In this house, we review The House, a new stop-motion animated dark anthology film from Nexus Studio, which is now available on Netflix. Afterward, we do a deeper dive into Joachim Trier’s The Worst Person in the World, a dark romantic dramedy we both selected as one of our favorite films of 2021, which is now hitting limited release in North America. Last, we settle in for The Pink Cloud, a Brazilian Sundance film from last year that might just change your mind on pandemic movies being a little “too soon.” Also, check out Jon’s video/essay, “Why Critics Hate the Movies You Love,” which gets brought up in the show.

    Scream (2022) Jan 18, 2022

We’re sharpening our knives this week for our long-anticipated review of the latest Scream film, or Scream 5 unofficially. This is the first of the franchise to not be directed by Wes Craven, as we instead of the filmmakers behind Ready or Not. Is this meta slasher whodunnit as much of a scream? And afterward, we discuss George Clooney’s latest directorial effort, The Tender Bar, which is based on the memoir by J.R. Moehringer and stars Ben Affleck, Tye Sheridan, and Lily Rabe.

The Tragedy of Macbeth Jan 05, 2022
    Show notes

Some wicked reviews this way come, and the first is our contentious debate over The Tragedy of Macbeth, a new A24 black-and-white adaptation of the classic Shakespearean play, solely directed by Joel Coen and starring Denzel Washington, Frances McDormand, and many more. Afterward, we clear our throats for Sing 2, the animated sequel to Illumination's 2016 Sing, again directed by Garth Jennings and featuring a massive cast of familiar voices. Last, we get lost in our thoughts regarding The Lost Daughter, Maggie Gyllenhaal's directorial debut (she also adapts the screenplay from the eponymous novel), which stars Olivia Colman, Dakota Johnson, Jessie Buckley, Ed Harris, and more.
