SFP Interview: Sierra Dawn Thomas and Rodney Lavoie Jr from Survivor Worlds Apart May 22, 2015

Show notes

This week we interviewed Sierra Dawn Thomas and Rodney Lavoie Jr. They left the game in fifth and fourth place during the finale of Survivor Worlds Apart. Sierra teased us with the possibility of making big moves to better her position in the game many times, only to take the road most traveled by again and again, eventually fading into the background. Rodney's sense of entitlement and constant demands to be recognized and valued ensured that the spotlight was frequently on him. He indeed made one of the most strategically significant moves of the season, but was undone because he was not a fan and never learned one of the most basic principles of the game. Listen to this interview to hear extra details about the final tribal council, how they felt about their edit, about being called out for being bitter by Jen and more!

Worlds Apart Finale May 21, 2015

Show notes

Three cheers for the underdog! What an amazing story, against all odds, from pariah to sole survivor. This season stood out for having so many fans in the game. We learned quickly though that not all fans are created equal, and some of them struggle with basic, self awareness skills. Unfortunately, this season also brought with it some uncomfortable moments courtesy of some really mean, ugly exchanges between the castaways. So, it was really nice to see it end on such a high note with a great redemption angle. What did you think of the final challenges? How important was the family visit? How did the final three do with answering the questions? Who in the jury asked the best and worst questions? What did you think of the reunion show? Did Shirin get closure? Where does this season rank for you amongst the other 29? Who are you most looking forward to see play from the new cast in season 31?

We're having technical difficulties with the voicemail line. You can record an audio comment and attach it or just type up a quick text message and send it to us via email at joannandstacyshow@gmail.com. Listener Feedback is due by Saturday Noon PST. Please keep it to 3 minutes or less.

Worlds Apart Episode 13 LF May 16, 2015

Show notes

Dan's pre-season plan to be memorable appears to have been successful based on this week's feedback. The twist is that he wanted be viewed as heroic, but what we got was a unrepentant goat of epic proportions. His "scripted", exit interview answers won him no supporters amongst these super fans. Mike became the hero most of us are cheering for with Carolyn as an alternate. Brace yourself, some bitter, final tribal council jurors are coming!

For each episode, we provide 3 podcasts: an episode recap, an interview with the castoff, and a chance for Survivor fans like yourself to sound off on what you saw and how you think the castaways are fairing in the game. Seventeen fans shared their thoughts on episode 13 as well as predictions for what we'll see next. We want to thank and acknowledge everyone who contributed to another great show. This week we heard from: Ronda, Skippy, Sarah, Rashmi, Barbara, ColdMike, Doreese, Drew, Nina, Liam & Becca, Meredith, Jen , Josh, Jody, Carolyn, and Paul.

SFP Interview: Castoff from Episode 13 of Survivor Worlds Apart May 15, 2015

Show notes

This week we interviewed Dan Foley. He left the game in episode 13 of Survivor Worlds Apart. He said his goal was to be memorable and he hoped he would be viewed as heroic. His fellow castaways described him as gullible and manipulated him so expertly that to this day he still does not appear to fully recognize what happened. He was a frequent, secondary target at many previous Tribal Councils, but was eventually taken out with a masterful blindside that completely nullified the auction advantage he had cherished so dearly. Listen to this interview to hear about the cover story he used while away, more details on the back fired 'apology' to Sierra, how he feels about his edit and more!

Worlds Apart Episode 13 May 14, 2015

Show notes

An underdog survived against all odds, we got a magnificent blindside, and as expected, Dan blundered his advantage in a spectacular way. Not bad for the episode just prior to the finale. Did you like when Probst called out Rodney for his overbearing sense of entitlement? Can you see any scenario where Carolyn and Mike end up at the final tribal council together? Who would be your best and worst final three? Who's the biggest goat? Who is most likely to be a bitter juror? What will your final four order be?

Worlds Apart Episode 12 LF May 10, 2015

Show notes

Mike's plan finally came to fruition this week. He forced the controlling alliance to turn on each other when he saved himself as promised with a HII. Some folks were sad to see Tyler to go. Now they are holding out hope for either Mike or Carolyn to win it all. Nobody likes a whiner, and Rodney just proved he is a world class whiner. This season was immediately overshadowed by the announcement at the end of the episode that the fans would be able to vote and select the cast for the next season which in turn prompted a lot of discussion in this week's show.

For each episode, we provide 3 podcasts: an episode recap, an interview with the castoff, and a chance for Survivor fans like yourself to sound off on what you saw and how you think the castaways are fairing in the game. SFP Interview: Castoff from Episode 12 of Survivor Worlds Apart May 08, 2015

Show notes

This week we interviewed Tyler Fredrickson. He left the game in episode 12 of Survivor Worlds Apart. Tyler had a bit of a slow, awkward start. He proved early on that he could keep a secret and had a knack for finding the lowest person in an alliance. He slowly, quietly worked his way up the ranks until the spotlight focused on him as the biggest threat and he got the boot. Listen to this interview to hear his take on the nudity scenes, more details on Will's attack on Shirin, how he will decide who gets his vote and more!

Worlds Apart Episode 12 May 07, 2015

Show notes

Mike finally got his wish and was able to turn the tables on the controlling alliance that had been chasing him for so long. It was interesting to see how the other castaways handled Rodney's sense of entitlement. Tyler characterized Dan as loyal and gullible. Little did he know he was describing his own relationship with Carolyn. Mike painted a target on Tyler at the previous tribal council and his prediction came true. Has he finally turned the corner? Which ten women and men do you think deserve a second chance season 31? Will Mike be able to form an alliance with Sierra and Carolyn or will he finally be taken out as the biggest, remaining threat? Who currently has the best story to win it all? Who would be your best and worst final three given what we know so far? Who do you think will be next to go?

Worlds Apart Episode 11 LF May 02, 2015

Show notes

A lot of this week's discussion focused on two of the original Blue Collars: Dan and Mike. They have come to represent the opposite ends of the gameplay spectrum this season. Dan has solidified his position as a memorable, gullible goat. In stark contrast, Mike's dominance in the individual challenges and mindful, disruptive, strategic actions at the last tribal council has won him the admiration of many of the fans. Mike is virtually guaranteed to make it through at least one more episode. Dan's future is cloudy with a distinct chance of being voted out next.

For each episode, we provide 3 podcasts: an episode recap, an interview with the castoff, and a chance for Survivor fans like yourself to sound off on what you saw and how you think the castaways are fairing in the game. SFP Interview: Castoff from Episode 11 of Survivor Worlds Apart May 01, 2015

Show notes

This week we interviewed Shirin Oskooi. She left the game in episode 11 of Survivor Worlds Apart. After years of applying, Shirin finally realized her dream to be on the show. Unfortunately, that dream quickly turned dark. She was frequently targeted by most of her fellow castaways and ostracized for her quirky behaviour and obsession with the show. Even after being degraded and dehumanized by several male castaways she fought on and found little moments to celebrate and enjoy her time on the show. We admired her perseverance and triumphant spirit. Listen to this interview to hear more details on that infamous no swimsuit event, events leading up to Will's hostile outburst, how she's working to turn her experience into a positive for others and more!
