    46 - HOME MOVIE w Amy Miller Dec 12, 2016
    Show notes

On Sup Doc Ep46 hosts George Chen and Paco Romane sit down with comedian Amy Miller (Last Comic Standing, Punch Line) to discuss the 2001 doc Home Movie a witty look at five unusual homes that have been designed to match the ideas and eccentricities of the people who own them.

Ben Skora is a self-styled inventor who has tricked out his Illinois home with a variety of unusual gadgets, among them a nine-foot-tall robot. Linda Beach, an American actress who enjoyed a successful career in Japanese television, lives in a tree house in Hawaii that draws its power from a nearby waterfall. Bill Tragle's home is also close to the water, as the Louisiana alligator rancher shows off his luxurious houseboat. Ed Pedan and his wife Diana Pedan have made a home out of an abandoned underground complex in Kansas, built and then abandoned by the American military. And Bob Walker and Francis Mooney designed their home not with their own needs in mind, but those of their 11 pet cats.

Directed by Chris Smith, who previously made the acclaimed documentaries American Job and American Movie, Home Movie had its premiere at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival. Look for Amy's new comedy cd SOLID GOLD out NOW on Kill Rock Stars.

    45 - WEINER w Megan Koester Nov 28, 2016
    Show notes

On episode 45 of Sup Doc Paco and George talk with VICE writer and comedian Megan Koester about the 2016 documentary Weiner. This documentary centers around ex-Congressman Anthony Weiner as he navigates the fallout (his wife, Huma Abedin, recently separated from him) of yet another alleged sexting scandal — his second since landing in hot water after tweeting explicit photos of himself to a woman via Twitter in 2011 — buzz surrounding the documentary about his life, aptly titled Weiner, has reached an all-time high. The social and political aftermath of #Weinergate 2011 is intensely chronicled in Josh Kriegman and Elyse Steinberg’s sometimes endearing, often uncomfortably funny, endlessly fascinating portrait of the former New York congressman. We also find out more about Megan and talk about movies, politics, Woody Allen, Trump, and dick pics.

Megan Koester is a writer and comedian (obviously) who resides in Los Angeles (somewhat less obviously). A columnist for VICE, she co-produces Entitlement, a monthly comedy show with other VICE scribes which has had the pleasure to host such notables as Neil Hamburger, Marc Maron, Kyle Kinane, Maria Bamford, Kurt Braunohler, Reggie Watts, and Andy Kindler (who she collaborated with on her "How Not to Be a Stand-Up Comedian" article for VICE). She's performed at SF Sketchfest, the Hollywood Improv, the SF Punchline, Tomorrow!, The Grawlix, Chicago Underground Comedy, and countless other shows across this great land we call America. She has her very own track on the Holy Fuck Live Comedy album, which you can listen to on Spotify if you're so inclined. She USED to be a staple of those Huffington Post "Women You Should Follow on Twitter" lists until she started making a big stink about them being patronizing; she's also one third of the all-female (sorry) sketch group Blessed. A Guardian UK and Witstream contributor, she's been featured on Splitsider and is finding it very hard to continue writing this bio in the third person. You can follow her on Twitter

    Show notes

Sup Doc's first Watch Along! Watch Project Grizzly with us! Grab a bowl of popcorn, get comfy and join the conversation as guest Deborah Robinson chats along with hosts Paco and George. Project Grizzly is Deb's favorite documentary. https://youtu.be/i6eNK1O-RWw In this feature-length documentary, Troy James Hurtubise goes face to face with Canada's most deadly land mammal, the grizzly bear. Troy is the creator of what he hopes is a grizzly-proof suit, and he repeatedly tests his armour – and courage – in stunts that are both hair-raising and hilarious. Directed by Peter Lynch, the film has become a cult classic in the United States and is rumoured to be a favourite of director Quentin Tarantino. Born and raised in British Columbia, Canada, Deborah ventured off to New York city to take a stab at her love for comedy and writing. She studied at the Terry Schreiber Studio acting school and began doing standup at open mics at comedy clubs and coffee houses. She took those skills back to Toronto, and quickly became one of the cities top comedians. She was a member of the award winning sketch troupe, The Boom and performed to sold-out monthly shows at the world famous Drake Hotel. The Boom were regulars on Sirius XM Radio’s Laugh Attack, were invited to the Atlantic Fringe Festival, Montreal Sketch Fest, Toronto Sketch Fest and showcased for Just For Laughs. She created the Japanese themed comedy show “Happy Contest Time.” Which, won Best New Format at the 2012 I Heart Jokes Awards and was a featured act at the 2013 NXNE Festival. **Sup Doc has created a Patreon page for those that can help out.
