According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 10 percent of women (6.1 million) in the United States ages 15-44 have difficulty getting pregnant or staying pregnant.

Infertility means not being able to get pregnant after one year of trying (or six months if a woman is 35 or older). Women who can get pregnant but are unable to stay pregnant may also be infertile.

On this weeks podcast, I discuss this topic with renown fertility specialist , Dr Ertug Kovanci, MD of HART IVF Fertility Clinic

🤱🏾This year’s theme is “Support breastfeeding for a healthier planet”. In line with this theme, WHO and UNICEF are calling on governments to protect and promote women’s access to skilled breastfeeding counseling, a critical component of breastfeeding support.

🤱🏾 I think that it’s sad that in 2020, working moms in America still feel unsupported by their employers when it comes to breastfeeding. Many healthcare mamas cite their struggles with finding a proper place to pump at work( I’ve heard of mamas pumping in the bathroom at work), getting flack for taking pumping breaks, or being shamed that their pumping is decreasing their productivity.

🤱🏾How sad is it that we are expected to give excellent care to our patients yet get little support when we want to ensure that we continue to provide nourishment for our children?

🤱🏾And let’s not forget the people who take issue with mothers nursing their children in Public and expect them to go do it in the bathroom. Please support moms in their breastfeeding journey.

My name is Shiro Bergbauer, DNP, CRNA. I am a wife, mom, and certified registered nurse anesthetist. I have been in healthcare for the past 16 years, and a mom since 2018.

Becoming a mom was a huge shift and transition from me. I needed to find information on transitioning to becoming a working mom that was relevant to my career and I found that most information was targeting corporate moms who work traditional 9-5 hours. As I surveyed moms in medical careers, I realized the paucity of content addressing our needs. We take care of other people at work and at home. We aren’t always equipped for the transition from clinician to working mom, and this isn’t how it should be. Stethoscopes to Swaddles was born to address this need. My goal it to help moms in medicine, nursing, and allied health in their transition to working motherhood. We all seek balance and I’m here to help you find that ❤️ And let me be the person to remind you: “You’re doing a great job, mama!”
