Dave and Mike explore what happens when the truth we say we believe is tested by cancer, loss, pain, and the reality of death. They discuss the danger of allowing feelings and circumstances to control our thinking, and why biblical truth needs to be firmly planted before the crisis comes. At the center is the promise of Romans 8:38-39: nothing can separate those who are in Christ from the love of God.

Mary chats with Debbie Wuthnow of iVoterGuide, a ministry of American Family Association, about the midterms, and the crossroads at which we Americans find ourselves. Thanks to iVoterGuide, we can have access to tremendous amounts of research on all the midterm elections - scorecards, polling places, dates and much more - because an educated electorate benefits our nation. Most people don't realize that primary elections decide the vast majority of races; if people don’t vote on the ground level, say locally for school boards or in state and national primaries, they can’t truly complain about having lousy candidates. We are leaving our votes outsourced to our neighbor if we don't turn out. Yet primary voting numbers are notoriously low. So here we are, November 3 fast approaching. Thirty-nine state governorships are up for grabs, and flipping the House and Senate are also possibilities. Add Ai into the mix, and Democratic Socialists, and it's easy to see that the face of our nation is changing fast, and not for the best if you are concerned about voting Christian values. WE should be determining who best represents our values, not our neighbor who doesn’t often have a biblical worldview. What are some of the issues? What about Ai, foreign and domestic? Burning Man, which starts this weekend, is the most visible example of what are called "Transformational Festivals". What are they transforming? Themselves? The culture at large? Attendees seem to think they are practicing the future, a future of pagan, New Age, cosmic consciousness - a utopia of inclusiveness, earth worship, and paganism - in which adherents look within and find a god. Not THE God, of course, Who is outside of His creation. We talk about all those things they say and believe that we understand will of course lead to massive deception and delusion. Then we discuss another kind of transformation - in our cities and towns - the encroachment of radical Islam. What is Sharia Law? Is it codified or something much more insidious and dangerous? Tim and Mary take on the news cycle with a bit of a twist: living large in the last days, Babylon style. We talk about the change of seasons and how that brings a reality to the times. The nature of worship today is certainly one of the changes we have waded through, but not just to add to the conversation about it, rather perhaps put a finger on the problem: subjectivity. In the pursuit of making sure the Holy Spirit shows up to our gatherings, we have all but stopped worshiping in Spirit AND in truth: with our minds and our hearts. We talk about the hymn culture that produced doctrine and how that leads us in worship. Then we look at being ambassadors for Christ, doing the King's bidding in our service, not our own or even for our own earthly home. Mary welcomes back Jeff Kinley to talk about bringing hope to our kids - through bible prophecy. Back in the 70s and 80s, the youth were clamoring for more information about Jesus' return. It anchored us, gave us hope and caused us to look beyond the troubles and fleeting sense that all humans experience. Then what happened? Churches stopped teaching prophecy. The rapture became a comedic, scoffing byline - and with all that the sense of hope that our youth could rise above the floodwaters of a chaotic and dying world. Today we talk to Jeff about his Future Hope Student/Youth conferences. What are the goals and hopes of reaching out to our kids once again with the blessed hope? Why is it that so many told churches to stop talking about prophecy, and scaring the kids? Mary welcomes back premier apologist J. Warner Wallace to talk about our identity in Christ, and our identity in Christ in - America. He enjoys asking his audiences questions like " Why Are You a Christian?" and "Why Aren't You a Christian?". The answers to those simple questions tell him and us a lot about the state of the church today. Our identity is everything. In Christ it's "received, not achieved". But in the culture it might be based on your identity politics, your social, economic and educational status, or your appearance - and a host of other qualifiers. In Christ, we already should know who we are based on Who He is, and that should set the stage for everything we say and do. Does it? Why is the church having an identity crisis then, because the Bible tells us all about Whom we worship and how to live. But we are so busy deconstructing, taking dominion, and worrying about who is in charge of the world that we just forget who we are and what the church is for. What is dispensationalism? What is the alternate view, covenant theology? Many Christians don't understand why dispensationalism is being attacked with such vigor; perhaps those doing the attacking don't either but the prevailing mood today is, there is no rapture or at least not one that takes the Christians out of the world before judgment. And Israel? Well, they aren't even in the picture and what's more, that's not Israel over in, well, Israel. On today's SUFTT, Mary starts with biblical interpretive systems of prophecy and from there expands on the really big picture of dispensationalism and how it beautifully fits the historical-grammatical-literal interpretation of Scripture. Are we seeing the church age wrap up and the Day of the Lord commence? In today's news cycle, what is drawing the most attention is competing ideologies: Islam, Communism, Darwinism - and even Ai? Is that an ideology, or just a basket of algorithms? We talk about all these movements that are converging on our world all at once. Meanwhile, the Christian voice is being drowned out, by design - and yet, as Gamaliel famously said in Acts 5:38-39, " And now I say to you, keep away from these men and let them alone; for if this plan or this work is of men, it will come to nothing; but if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it—lest you even be found to fight against God.” And all these ideologies do just that - fight against God. But God is on the throne, we read the end of the book and we know who wins. So how can we come against all these philosophies of men and still be heard? The still small voice of God that Elijah heard still saves - one heart at a time. What can man do to me? A timely discussion of ideologies and elections and when it all comes to nothing.

Dr. JB Hixson Mary welcomes pastor and author JB Hixson back to SUFTT to talk about toning down the chaos and pressure and spending time in the Lord's presence. Life used to pace like a slow-cooker ("crock pot" for all you Boomer/Millennial types) but now it's a pressure cooker, no longer even the front burner or microwave. Faster doesn't mean better, and in the spiritual realm of things, faster and with a side of drama produces not much except Christianity Lite. Today we pace ourselves through 1 Kings 19 and the drama that was the life of Elijah at times. Having just gone through a tumult with the prophets of Baal, he finds himself in need of rest before he can go on. By the time he gets to that cave in Horeb, he's depleted and depressed and wondering what's next. It's then that the Lord speaks to him, but in that still small way that we hear when the Spirit is working in hearts. After letting him pour out his heart, God sends him on his way. Having dispatched multiple tractor-trailer loads of critical relief supplies from their HQ in Danville, Virginia, they are now in the process of clearing, comforting, and rebuilding. We talk about the ministry in general, what it takes to be able to offer their services at no charge to a community, and how they bring Jesus to those who lost everything in the blink of an eye. Chris has such a heart for people, and the ministry has impacted lives around the globe. Also, where else are they needed this year, in a Summer of record heat, rain and wind?
