Ohio Huntsman - The Outdoor Participation Report Mar 24, 2021
    Show notes

This week on the show we discuss the Outdoor Foundation's 2020 outdoor participation report. The report created by the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) and is published at the end of each calendar year and looks at the total number of Americans that report participating in outdoor activities during the year. The first key finding of the report is that youth participation in outdoor activities continues to decline. This is concerning to us as the future of hunting and fishing is likely to follow the same trend. Another key finding of the report is that the percentage of women participating in outdoor activities continues to grow. Additionally, the report found that nearly half of Americans surveyed did not participate in any outdoor activities. We also discuss how many of the categories of outdoor activities that are growing in popularity are not that different from hunting and why that leads to even more importance being put on how we represent our community in order to appeal to the increasing number of people that may be finding the outdoors for the first time through the pandemic. Land & Legacy - Transforming Habitat Is Not Accidental, It's Intentional Mar 23, 2021
    Show notes

During this podcast we discuss how to yield actual results from your work on the landscape. After a day of prescribed fire, we have many stories to tell of our insights from the field. Often times we see folks taking the right steps but in wrong orders. This can be potentially harmful and not helpful. Being able to develop a plan that will reach clear objectives is first and foremost. Next comes implementing those steps as designed. Taking shortcuts or getting steps out of order often takes habitat improvements into a stalemate. We want more for you, the land, and the wildlife. There is more to experience than staus quo habitat manipulation. It's time to be intentional with our goals and the steps we take to achieve them. If you want to create a successful business, you need a plan, and you need to take certain intentional steps at the perfect time to achieve success, habitat management is very similar to his! We hope you learn how to attack your property properly during this podcast! #ForLoveoftheLand Land & Legacy is Powered by Simplecast

    N.F.C. - Brand New Bowhunter Mar 17, 2021
    Show notes

On this episode of the Nine Finger Chronicles, Dan is joined by brand new bowhunter John Engstorm to talk about his first season as a bowhunter. John didn't get started hunting until his early 20's with a couple short hunting trips to Pennsylvania with his dad to rifle hunt. Then, after a move to Nebraska, he met up with a group of guys who were all bowhunters and talked him in to picking up a bow. After a couple months of practice and an exploding bow that led him to getting new archery tackle, he hit the woods for the first time as a bow hunter. With multiple scouting missions and trail camera data under his belt, he connected on a small doe on opening day. Later in the season on November 10th, John connected on a giant 15 point buck on a small piece public land with multiple other hunters in the vicinity. Just listening to the excitement in John's voice as he explain the 2020 season is enough to get any hunter fired up about the upcoming season. Nine Finger Chronicles is Powered by Simplecast
