Long before the modern UFO era, settlers, cowboys, soldiers, and newspapers across the American frontier were reporting strange lights, mysterious craft, and even non-human beings in the skies. In this episode of Somewhere in the Skies, we travel back to the late 1800s to explore remarkable cases from Montana’s glowing “sky chariots” and New Mexico’s ghost lights to early reports of crashes, humanoid encounters, and the bizarre airship wave that swept the West. From silent orbs following cattle drives to alleged crashes in Colorado and Texas, these encounters blur the line between folklore and something far more technological. Together, they suggest the UFO phenomenon did not begin in the 20th century, but has deep roots in the Wild West, appearing in forms shaped by the time, culture, and understanding of those who witnessed it.

On a warm July afternoon in rural Michigan, a woman navigated a quiet gravel road when something ahead caught her attention. A lone figure stood near the bend, unmoving. In an instant, her car was overwhelmed by the crackle of static electricity and lurched out of her control. Join Zelia Edgar for a chilling firsthand account of a Michigan humanoid encounter that blurs the line between cryptid folklore and something far more unsettling.

In this compelling volume of Witness Accounts, Somewhere in the Skies presents three firsthand UFO encounters spanning 1977 to 1995, each told directly by the experiencers. An aviation-savvy witness in Port Glasgow, Scotland describes two silent, elongated triangular craft flying in precise formation over the River Clyde, while a teenager in Saratoga, California recalls a low-hovering circular object with shifting lights, later echoed by local newspaper reports of repeated sightings. The episode culminates in a deeply unsettling Florida Everglades encounter, where glowing eyes in the swamp are followed by a massive humming, smoke-like object that appears to teleport across the sky, prompting a frantic escape and the capture of a rare photograph rediscovered decades later. Free of speculation and grounded in lived experience, this episode captures the fear, wonder, and lasting impact of close-range UFO encounters and the enduring question of what truly moves through our skies.

As the world reacts to the long awaited Stranger Things series finale, Ryan speaks with filmmaker Chris Garetano about the chilling real world legends that helped inspire the show, the Montauk Project at Camp Hero. Officially a decommissioned military base, Camp Hero has long been rumored to be the site of covert government experiments involving mind control, LSD testing, child abductions, non human contact, and even time manipulation, echoing real programs like MK Ultra.
Garetano, whose investigations include the documentary The Montauk Chronicles and the History Channel series The Dark Files, breaks down firsthand testimony, corroborated accounts, and disturbing evidence gathered over years of research. Together, they explore where science fiction ends, where history begins, and why the truth behind Montauk may be far darker and more real than Stranger Things ever imagined.

In August of 1967, two teenagers in Kolmården, Sweden encountered eerie red and white lights, strange sounds, and a non-human humanoid near an abandoned cabin. Zelia Edgar examines how this chilling case blurs the lines between UFO encounters, cryptids, folklore, and hauntings, exploring theories from John Keel to classic monster reports. A haunting example of high strangeness that defies easy explanation!
