99 Men Vanished... The USS Scorpion Mystery | Conspiracy Theories Aug 28, 2026
    Show notes

USS Scorpion vanished in the Atlantic on May 22, 1968 with 99 men aboard. No distress call. No wreckage. No survivors. The Navy searched for five months β€” and when they finally found her two miles down, the official cause of loss was never determined.

But the SOSUS hydrophones recorded something 90 seconds before she died. And Scorpion had turned off her course toward it.

A slow, atmospheric Cold War submarine mystery for deep sleep: the torpedo theory, the Soviet retaliation theory, John Walker's espionage, K-129, Project Azorian, and the contact that appears in both nations' files under two different names.

Why NASA Stopped Exploring the Ocean... | Conspiracy Theories Aug 27, 2026
    Show notes

Why NASA stopped exploring the ocean β€” the Seasat satellite mystery, the classified deep sea discovery of 1978, and what may still be buried beneath the Pacific. A long, slow deep sea sleep story for insomnia, relaxation, and falling asleep fast.

In June 1978, NASA launched the first satellite built to study Earth's oceans. It operated for one hundred and five days before it died. What its scientists found in the Pacific before that β€” a moving anomaly, a buried structure on the seafloor, and a signal repeating back from the dark β€” is the story we tell tonight. Nearly two hours of calm narration, no jump scares, no loud ads mid-episode.

Metropolitan State Hospital: The Asylum Experiment | Conspiracy Theories Aug 25, 2026
    Show notes

Metropolitan State Hospital opened in 1930 outside Boston, closed in 1992, and left behind a numbered cemetery, a mile of woods, and one of the darkest murders in Massachusetts psychiatric history. Tonight's dark history sleep story goes inside the wards β€” and inside a fictional government program that was studying the patients everyone else had stopped looking at.

In 1966, a young psychiatrist notices a small black triangle inked into certain patient charts. Every man carrying it has the same thing in common. What he finds over the next fourteen years pulls him into Project Harbinger, the Gaebler Children's Center, seven missing weeks of records, and a filing system hidden somewhere nobody would ever dig.

Mystery Flesh Pit National Park... | Conspiracy Theories Aug 24, 2026
    Show notes

Mystery Flesh Pit National Park β€” a cosmic horror sleep story about the living superorganism beneath West Texas, the corporation that sold tickets to it, and the two thousand seven disaster that woke it up. Over eighty minutes of slow, calm narration for sleep, insomnia, and background listening.

In nineteen seventy-three, a drilling crew in the Permian Basin punched into something that bled. Fifty years later, the deepest expedition ever attempted found a smooth black structure buried in its nervous system β€” and discovered it had been transmitting the same signal for millions of years.

Soviet Space Cover Up | The Cosmonauts Who Never Came Home | Conspiracy Theories Aug 23, 2026
    Show notes

They painted him out of the photograph. Not crossed out β€” painted over, the gap closed, the row of faces resealed so it looked like he had never been standing there at all.

That part is true. It happened to Valentin Bondarenko, who burned to death in a training chamber nineteen days before Gagarin flew, and whose country denied he had ever been a cosmonaut for twenty-five years.

So when two brothers in an abandoned bunker outside Turin said they'd recorded a fading distress call from something climbing away from Earth β€” and then a man's breathing and heartbeat slowing to nothing β€” and then a woman's voice saying it was getting hot in here, the accusation didn't sound absurd. It sounded like something the USSR would do.

The Mad Gasser of Mattoon | Unsolved 1944 Mystery | Conspiracy Theories Aug 23, 2026
    Show notes

The Mad Gasser of Mattoon is one of America's strangest unsolved mysteries. In August and September 1944, residents of Mattoon, Illinois reported a sweet chemical odour entering their homes at night, followed by nausea, weakness and temporary paralysis. Police patrolled, armed neighbours watched the streets, state investigators arrived β€” and no attacker was ever found. This long, calm sleep story walks through the real history of the Mattoon gas attacks, then asks what it would have meant if the town had been chosen on purpose.

The Cash-Landrum UFO Incident... | Conspiracy Theories Aug 21, 2026
    Show notes

The Cash-Landrum incident is the most physically documented UFO encounter in American history. On December 29, 1980, Betty Cash, Vickie Landrum, and seven-year-old Colby Landrum stopped their car on a rural Texas road beneath a diamond-shaped object throwing flame downward β€” and watched more than twenty military helicopters, including tandem-rotor CH-47 Chinooks, move with it across the sky. All three fell ill. Betty Cash was hospitalized and never fully recovered. They sued the U.S. government, and the case was dismissed because they could not prove whose helicopters those were.

Tonight we walk through the real witness account in full, then follow an original fictional investigation into where those helicopters came from β€” a classified recovery unit, a test aircraft built around an engine nobody understood, and the one question the government could not afford to answer under oath.

Real vs. invented is labeled clearly at the start and again at the end. The witnesses, the injuries, the lawsuit, and the dismissal are historical. The investigators, programs, and documents are original fiction written for this episode.

The Westall UFO Incident: 200 Students Saw It Land... | Conspiracy Theories Aug 20, 2026
    Show notes

The Westall UFO Incident β€” often called Australia's Roswell β€” happened on the morning of April 6th, 1966, at Westall High School in Clayton South, Melbourne. More than 200 students and teachers watched a silver, disc-shaped object descend into an open field known as The Grange. It remains the most heavily witnessed daylight UFO sighting in Australian history, and it has never been explained.

But the strangest detail isn't the object. It's the timing. Military aircraft arrived within moments of the landing β€” far too quickly to have been scrambled by a phone call. Nobody had called anyone. They were already coming.

The Montauk Project: The Secret Experiments Beneath Camp Hero | Conspiracy Theories Aug 19, 2026
    Show notes

The land runs out at Montauk. Past the last town, past the last road, there is a tower with an eighty-foot dish on top of it, still standing, still facing the sea. Tonight we go underneath it.

An engineer who noticed the base was drawing four times too much power. A boy who could describe rooms hundreds of miles away. A coin thrown through a door in the air that had already been found ten years earlier.

Real history braided with original fiction. Both are named plainly at the end.

The Dead Don't Leave: Mackinac Island Mystery | Conspiracy Theories Aug 18, 2026
    Show notes

In October 1974, a photographer took a picture of a British soldier standing on the walls of Fort Mackinac. The soldier had been missing since 1780. When the print was developed, the shadow he cast fell in the wrong direction β€” and four words had appeared on the back that nobody had written.

Mackinac Island is real. Fort Mackinac is real. The battle of 1814 is real. So is the ban on automobiles, and the two-hundred-year-old silence that comes with it. Tonight's story is built on top of that real history, and the line between what's documented and what's invented is drawn clearly at the beginning and again at the end.

Full episode, no interruptions. Roughly two and a half hours. Sleep well.
