131: Howard The Duck 30th Anniversary Special Aug 04, 2016

Show notes

The TechnoRetro Dads team up with Skywalking Through Neverland to celebrate HOWARD THE DUCK'S 30th Anniversary! This film had a rockin' theme song, Lea Thompson in her skivvies and a man in a duck suit. We talk about the highpoints, lowpoint, and the possible future for Howard. In the summer of 1986, Star Wars fans looked forward to anything bearing the LucasFilm Logo. Richard, Shazbazzar and Jedishua reminisce, while Sarah shares her thoughts on seeing the film for the first time.

We go from Ducks to Sharks as Richard and his Talking Apes TV co-host Mark Oguschewitz review SHARKNADO: THE 4TH AWAKENS! With plenty of references to STAR WARS, other classic films and even BAYWATCH, we couldn't pass up this opportunity. Just how much of a parody was it? Well, listen and find out.

Also on this episode:

Skywalker Shout-outs and Skywalker of the Week

We want to give a big Thank You to our family of Skywalkers who help us out on each show whether it's listening, posting comments and suggestions on our FB group or just spreading and sharing the positivity about our adventure through fandom!

128: Star Wars Celebration 0 Flashback & Star Wars Land Concept Art Jul 14, 2016

Show notes

STAR WARS CELEBRATION FLASHBACK - In honor of Star Wars Celebration Europe starting July 15th, we flashback to the very first Star Wars convention held 29 years ago. It was officially titled, "Starlog Salutes Star Wars–A 10th Anniversary Tribute to George Lucas and the Galaxy Far, Far Away Which He Created!" or as we are now calling it, Celebration 0! Thinking ahead, an 18-year old Richard traveled to Los Angeles to get the audio from this first-ever George Lucas panel for something called Skywalking Through Neverland (remember this was 1987). Here now for the first time is the whole Q&A panel with a special live introduction by R2-D2, C-3PO and Darth Vader who shows an unexpected sense of humor. Hear the first announcement for the prequel trilogy, plans to work again with the Disney theme parks and future plans of a 7-part Howard the Duck franchise* (*joke due to jet-lag). So much fun to hear almost 3 decades later and see what story elements made it into the prequels and the films after the original trilogy!

It's still a few years away but we're getting information and concept art for Star Wars Land every few months! In this episode we analyze the new artwork that was just posted on Disney Parks Blog that gave a birds-eye view of the 14-acre expansion. What is it that we are looking at? Of course you noticed the Millennium Falcon, but did you notice the Lamda-class shuttle? Or what could be a Blockade Runner? Is that beast of burden animatronic or will or will it roam this new unseen planet? There's plenty of opportunity for lots of gift shops and themed restaurants in this marketplace setting. So many places to separate you from your hard-earned cash.

Also on this episode:

Contest winner revealed and a chance to win Chuck Wendig's new book, Star Wars: Life Debt, the follow-up to Aftermath!
Skywalker Shout-outs and Skywalker of the Week

We want to give a big Thank you to our family of Skywalkers who help us out on each show whether it's listening, posting comments and suggestions on our FB group or just spreading and sharing the positivity about our adventure through fandom!

127: Finally, WRECK-IT RALPH 2 Jul 08, 2016

Show notes

WRECK-IT RALPH 2 is ggglitching its way into theaters on March 9, 2018. We can't wait! John C. Reilly (Ralph) and Sarah Silverman (Vanellope Von Schweetz) are both set to reprise their roles. All we know about the plot so far is that Ralph is wrecking the internet. Richard and Sarah take a deep dive into what the plot could contain. We even called on some help from our Skywalkers via our Facebook Group Page. From memes to apps to gaming, how could Ralph and Vanellope break the internet? And what gaming cameos would you want to see? Disney's Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World is now open past sunset, with a whole slew of new nighttime activities. Teresa Delgado (Fangirls Going Rogue / Disney Vault Talk) was able to visit and tells us about the new fun additions, the best way to see them and what caused her to roll up in a little ball of fear! Also on this episode:

Skywalker Story - Derek Spier will let it go in a story about his family of fangirls

Things We Want To Share, Expanded Edition

Julie Andrews will star in Netflix Original series "Julie's Greenroom" for preschool kids! Not only will this star Julie Andrews, but it is co-created by Julie and her daughter, Emma Walton Hamilton. The entire show is promoting the performing arts, which Sarah can really get behind.
The Force Awakens has finally left the theaters, but it has left an indelible mark on the history of movies.

Participate in as many or as few of the group activities as you want to. And the more people we have in our group, the more options we'll have to do cool things!

There is one more Special Announcement tease on this episode, and it may have something to do with Rob Dehlinger, our John Williams of podcasting.

Classic Marvel STAR WARS Comics #9 Jun 06, 2016

Show notes

"At last! Beyond The Movie! Beyond the Galaxy!" reads the cover of each issue of the Marvel Star Wars comics from 1977 and beyond. Richard, Sarah and Star Wars artist Randy Martinez dive into these classic Marvel Star Wars comics from the 1970's and 1980's.

In this episode we look at Star Wars #9: 'Showdown on a Wasteland World!' which was originally released December 13, 1977 and written by Roy Thomas and Howard Chaykin, with Archie Goodwin acting as a consulting editor. Issue illustrated by Howard Chaykin and Tom Palmer.

Title: "Showdown On a Wasteland World"

Release Date: December 13, 1977

Writer: Roy Thomas and Howard Chaykin

Consulting Editor: Archie Goodwin

Synopsis: Han Solo, Chewbacca and the Star-Hoppers arrive at Ramiz's village of Onacra, only to find it under attack by flying High-hounds. They repel the beasts, saving the life of a young girl named Merri to the great relief of her father Oncho, the village spokesman. But their relief is short-lived as Serji-X and his gang attack; the Star-Hoppers valiantly defend the village from the attack, but not without cost.

Meanwhile, Luke Skywalker informs Leia Organa that he has found a new location for the Rebel Alliance base in the Drexel system, but the transmission suddenly ends, and a worried Leia sets out to find Luke.
