    She’s Talkin’ Money

You make good money. You save. You contribute to retirement. On paper, you are doing well. So why do you still feel unsure whether you are making the right decisions with your money?

She’s Talkin’ Money is the personal finance podcast for women who have outgrown basic budgeting advice and want more clarity about what comes next.

Hosted by financial planner and money expert Shari Rash, the show helps you understand how to put your money to work through smarter investing, retirement planning, saving, tax strategy, and intentional spending.

You will also hear honest conversations about the emotional side of money: fear, guilt, comparison, financial independence, over-saving, and why earning more does not always make you feel more secure.

Expect practical solo episodes, expert conversations, and real money questions designed to help you stop second-guessing yourself and start making financial decisions with more confidence.

Because doing well on paper should feel good in real life, too.

Previously known as Everyone’s Talkin’ Money.

The History of Why We Spend Money to Eat on Thanksgiving Nov 23, 2022
    Show notes

Have you ever wondered why we eat turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, and our favorite veggie dish for Thanksgiving? The Thanksgiving meal has evolved so much since the early 1900s and become the holiday we associate with eating until we can't eat anymore. In this Friendsgiving episode, I sat down with the amazing Katherine Spiers, host of the Smart Mouth Podcast, to find out the history behind the Thanksgiving meal and got to the bottom of our pumpkin-crazed eating trends. Katherine shares how Thanksgiving has evolved over time, how to make most out of your Thanksgiving on any budget, and the fascinating story behind the year of two Thanksgivings.

    Show notes

Are you ready to get a clue about investing and take charge of your financial future? Before you sink a single dollar into the stock market, you need to know author Susan Laubach’s 7 rules to invest effectively and make your money grow. Susan knows a LOT about investing. She is a former Wall Street stockbroker and financial educator. She’s taught several levels of investment education to students aged 18 to 74. Better Investing Magazine called Laubach’s previous book “the most-well rounded source of basic stock information and education.” In this episode, Susan is sharing learnings from her recent book, Rumpelstiltskin’s Rules for Making Your Farthings Grow. Told through entertaining, colorful retellings of fables and fairy tales you already know by heart, Susan will demystify the world of investing and teach you these powerful 7 rules of investing that will serve as you foundation going forward. When someone as wise as Susan comes on the show, I listen up because she has decades of advice that I want to know. In this vault episode, you’ll learn more about these 7 investing rules, get a look at what it was like to be a female stockbroker before there were female stockbrokers, understand how to never pay too much, and so much more.

Practical Steps to Rewrite and Reclaim Your Money Story Nov 16, 2022
    Show notes

If you’ve ever seen a movie, read a book, or listened to a song, you know how important stories are. Stories are what root you in life and give a lot of context to who you are and what you do. On this show, we like to talk about the idea of your money story. Think of your money story as a collection of how you were raised, your views toward money, your beliefs, and all the things that have happened to you related to money. Your money story holds great power over your relationship with money and understanding your story is vital to you being able to live the life you want to live. Our guest, Christina Blacken knows a little something about money stories herself. She’s a public speaker, performer, and founder of The New Quo, a leadership development and inclusion consultancy helping leaders create inclusive cultural and organizational change through narrative intelligence. Christina says, “when you think about money, what are the negative ideas of beliefs that pop up? And when you start to list those out, you can surprise yourself with, wow, I have a very specific narrative around money and how it connects to my identity, self-worth, lifestyle, and the impact I’m having in the world.” In this episode, Christina will guide you through questions to help you unpack your narrative around money and figure out if your money truly lines up with your values so you can rewrite and reclaim your money story. Let’s start talkin’.

How to Take Back Control of Your Financial Life Nov 14, 2022
    Show notes

How good would it feel to take back control of your financial life and stop feeling so financially stressed? I’m hoping your answer is, “pretty awesome, but how do I do that?” According to our guest, Liz Davidson, CEO of Financial Finesse, a leading provider of unbiased financial wellness programs in the country, you have to start by getting financially well. Just like you take care of your mental health, you also need to give your money some TLC beyond spreadsheets and calculators. Believe it or not, just 23 years ago the term financial wellness didn’t exist until Liz coined it and started a revolution of looking at your money from a holistic perspective - for example, instead of isolating one goal that you have, you look at all your goals in terms of the entire vision you have for your money and life. This is what it means to take back control of your financial life. In this episode, Liz is sharing everything from what it means to be financially well and how you can get there, why you shouldn’t sacrifice money goals while paying off debt, how to prioritize your money goals going forward, and the power of unbiased money advice(yes, it does actually exist). We cover all this and so much more with Liz, who happens to be a big influence in my financial life and my career. There’s a lot of fangirling in this episode. Are you ready to take back control? Then, let’s start talkin’.

Is the Paycheck Worth the Pain Nov 09, 2022
    Show notes

Is the paycheck worth the pain, that’s the question we’re diving into? Ok, friends, I’ve got a powerful money story to share with you from our guest Jaime Fiore Higgins, author of the new book, Bully Market: My Story of Money and Misogyny at Goldman Sachs in this episode that is going to rock your world. As I talked with Jaime it reminded me of a time in my own career, the only corporate job that I’ve had when I worked for a guy who let’s just say was not a good boss. I lost a part of my soul for that paycheck and told myself I would NEVER do that again. But my story isn’t unique. Maybe you have a story like mine where you struggled with the question, is the paycheck worth the pain? As our guest, Jaime says, “money is a sticky thing. We all need it but we don’t think about the sacrifices we make to earn it.” In this episode, you’ll hear the twists and turns of Jaime’s story, her advice to you if you’re in a similar situation, and the steps you can take to take back your power and see beyond the paycheck. This story is as juicy and important as it comes. Let’s start talkin’.

How to Get Paid As a Freelancer, Entrepreneur, or Creative Nov 07, 2022
    Show notes

I often tell people that I’m allergic to fluorescent lights. It’s, of course, not actually true, but I’ve really only had one W-2 9-5 job in my life and have always been an entrepreneur and freelancer at heart. There are a lot of perks that come with freelancing like the ability to make unlimited money and of course working in your pj’s and grabbing snacks whenever you want. But, there are downsides to freelancing and being an entrepreneur. It’s often hard to get paid after you do your job. Most companies like to really drag out the payment schedule and that can leave you really feeling in pinch. With high inflation, so many freelancers are extra nervous as companies are trying to cut costs. Not to worry, our guest Tony Tran, is the CEO and co-founder of Lumanu, is a platform that democratizes the creator economy by allowing creators and freelancers like you to grow, collaborate, and thrive on their own terms. Tony shares how to get paid as a freelancer or creator, tax changes impacting freelancers, important deductions that you might not know about, and how to deal with the mental health side of freelancing and worrying about money. So all you side hustlers, freelancers, entrepreneurs, and creators, this episode is jam-packed with great information to set you up for money success. Let’s start talkin’.

“Hi there Shannah. I feel like you’re a friend but you don’t even know me. I’m a regular listener and I know you’ve featured so many authors on this show who have books. I’m curious what some of your favorites are. I feel like I need to create a bookshelf all about money so I can dig deeper into topics that I’m curious about. Thanks for this show, it’s helped me a lot. I seriously raised a glass to you for the inspiration.”
