    She’s Talkin’ Money

You make good money. You save. You contribute to retirement. On paper, you are doing well. So why do you still feel unsure whether you are making the right decisions with your money?

She’s Talkin’ Money is the personal finance podcast for women who have outgrown basic budgeting advice and want more clarity about what comes next.

Hosted by financial planner and money expert Shari Rash, the show helps you understand how to put your money to work through smarter investing, retirement planning, saving, tax strategy, and intentional spending.

You will also hear honest conversations about the emotional side of money: fear, guilt, comparison, financial independence, over-saving, and why earning more does not always make you feel more secure.

Expect practical solo episodes, expert conversations, and real money questions designed to help you stop second-guessing yourself and start making financial decisions with more confidence.

Because doing well on paper should feel good in real life, too.

How to Make Peace With Your Money with Ken Honda Dec 14, 2022
    Show notes

Have you ever tried to achieve a money goal and felt like you never make any progress? Or do you cringe anytime something comes out of the blue that you need to spend money on? Or do you walk around feeling completely uneasy about your money situation? If you answered yes to either of these questions you are not alone. You see, money is about more than numbers. It’s about our very complex relationship with money that was set in motion even before we were born, believe it or not. All these years you’ve been collecting information about how you think, act, and feel about money and this information has been working somewhat in the background without feeling like you have any control.

As our much-beloved guest, Ken Honda says, “it’s like you have a mold in you that attracts a certain relationship with money until you recognize it and start to make changes, nothing else will change.” Ken is a money and happiness expert and a best-selling self-development author in Japan. His book “Happy Money” is one that will forever be on my bookshelf, and if you haven’t read it, now is the time. When I was thinking about how to end this year on Everyone’s Talkin’ Money podcast and get you prepared to be in a better relationship with money, I knew you had to hear from Ken. In this episode, Ken shares how to figure out what is enough for you so you aren’t sucked into believing that more is better, how to redefine your relationship with money so you can bring in some ease, and how to do the work to let go of your money fears for good.

How to Donate: The Keys to Giving Effectively Dec 12, 2022
    Show notes

Are you more of a giver or a receiver when it comes to helping others? I definitely love giving more than receiving…in fact I’m a terrible gift receiver. Giving effectively isn’t always easy. Our guest, Grace Nicolette, co-host of the Giving Done Right Podcast and Vice President of Programming and External Relations at the Center for Effective Philanthropy (CEP), is here to help you figure out how to give effectively whether it’s now at the end of the year or whether you want to create a giving plan for next year. Grace answers some of your toughest questions like How much do I give? Where should I give? And How do I know if I’m making a difference — or if I’m actually doing more harm than help? I’m hoping this episode inspires you to think about giving in a different way and to find an organization or cause that you deeply care about. It is true that even a little can make a big difference when it comes to giving. Let’s start talkin’.

Travel Insurance: What It Is and Why You Need It Dec 09, 2022
    Show notes

Travel is back and millions are ready to get out there and start experiencing it all again. However, there’s a new reality. What happens if you get sick or injured while you’re away? You might think that you just pick up your insurance card and all will be taken care of. Not so fast. Did you know that getting sick or hurt on a vacation can lead to some pretty wicked consequences like a huge bill that could drain your bank account? That’s where travel insurance comes in. I absolutely love to travel, but honestly, it wasn’t until the 2020 pandemic shut down the world that I really realized that travel insurance is totally worth it. And the best part, as our guest Omar Kaywan from Goose Insurance says, travel insurance is only about 10% of your travel cost. So if your trip cost $2000, travel insurance would only cost around $200 max. Omar shares:

    • What is travel insurance and why you need it
    • Exactly what to do if you get sick or injured on a vacation
    • What to look for in a travel insurance policy
    • How to figure out what it doesn’t cover
    • Why you might need travel insurance even if you’re traveling in the US.

Get your bags packed, but first listen to this important episode that might literally save you millions.

Inflation: How It Impacts You & How to Prep Your Money for 2023 Dec 05, 2022
    Show notes

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room - inflation. You hear about inflation everywhere and feel it every time you fill up your car at the gas station or pop into the store to buy some food. Inflation is currently around 7.7%, which is the highest it has been since the early 1980s, and it looks like it’s here to stay much longer than Pumpkin Spiced Lattes. You might be asking, who benefits from inflation and where’s my inflation relief? It’s not all bad though - higher inflation typically means higher interest rates on your savings accounts which will have your emergency fund singing hallelujah for a change. So I went to my fellow podcaster, Chris Browning, host of the award-winning short-form podcast Popcorn Finance to join us for a conversation all about inflation. This episode isn’t filled with boring stats, instead, Chris shares thought-provoking details like the psychology behind inflation, a deep dive into potential pros for inflation, and the exact steps you need to take to set your money up in 2023 to help combat inflation. Grab a beverage, sit back, and let’s start talkin’.

Debit Card vs. Credit Card: Which Card Should You Use Dec 02, 2022
    Show notes

Debit card vs. credit card, which card should you use when? It may feel like plastic is plastic, but when it comes to your money, there are some distinct differences between a debit card vs. a credit card. In this Shannah Shares episode, I’m talkin’ when you use which card, how to maximize your benefits, and some key distinct differences.

This episode was inspired by a question from Marcus who wrote: Shannah, thanks for the show. I’m learning a lot and enjoying actually hearing about money every week. Your guests are rad, so thanks for that. I got into this debate with my fiance the other night about credit cards vs. debit cards and at the end of the debate we both realized that we really didn’t know when we should use each card. I thought I would come straight to you and see if you can help us figure it out. I currently have 2 credit cards and one debit card but I never know which one to pull out for day to day purchases and then for big purchases. Thank you again!
