    She’s Talkin’ Money

You make good money. You save. You contribute to retirement. On paper, you are doing well. So why do you still feel unsure whether you are making the right decisions with your money?

She’s Talkin’ Money is the personal finance podcast for women who have outgrown basic budgeting advice and want more clarity about what comes next.

Hosted by financial planner and money expert Shari Rash, the show helps you understand how to put your money to work through smarter investing, retirement planning, saving, tax strategy, and intentional spending.

You will also hear honest conversations about the emotional side of money: fear, guilt, comparison, financial independence, over-saving, and why earning more does not always make you feel more secure.

Expect practical solo episodes, expert conversations, and real money questions designed to help you stop second-guessing yourself and start making financial decisions with more confidence.

Because doing well on paper should feel good in real life, too.

Previously known as Everyone’s Talkin’ Money.

Get Your Travel On & Save Some Cash (Cause You Got Better Things to Do With That Cash) Jul 27, 2018
    Show notes

It's no joke that I LOVE to travel. We travel almost every month for work or for the podcast and although I love to travel, I don't love all the stuff that comes with traveling - long lines, expensive airport food, eating out every meal, and all those extra hotel charges. In honor of loving to travel, I'm sharing some of my favorite ways to travel and save some cash (and let's be honest, keep your sanity as well).

    On This Podcast Episode:

I'm throwing out all my favorite tips to travel for work or for fun and save some money. The truth is, I've traveled on a very small budget and on a very large budget and I've learned that no matter what your budget is:

    • You can still travel
    • You don't have to spend your entire budget to have a great trip
    • You need a few tools in your money toolbox to save some cash

Tune in to hear some of my favorite tips, websites, and more to save money on your next trip and to get your travel system set up for the future. I've tried all these tips myself and have refined what works, what doesn't, and what you need to know.

Innovation That Leads To Change In The Black Millennial Community With Ras Asan Jul 24, 2018
    Show notes

Ras Asan means business. As a black millennial male himself, he co-founded Breaux Capital rising from his own needs to figure out a different way to approach financial wellness. He figured if other black millennials were having the problems he was having, then he needed to start a company to meet their needs. Breaux Capital's innovation is shaking up the fin tech space and that's certainly not a bad thing.

    On This Podcast Episode:

Ras is one of those guests that I could talk to for hours. He's articulate, diverse, and has learned many money lessons along his own entrepreneurial journey that he's sharing on this episode.

Cooperatively owned and operated, BREAUX Capital is focused on increasing the financial wellness of millenial Black males. Since launching with only $500, BREAUX Capital has bootstrapped its way to serving members across the country. BREAUX Capital leverages a combination of software and a membership community to enhance the short and long-term financial health of its members.

There's no doubt in my mind that Ras and Breaux Capital will continue to shake up this old fashioned industry.

Take a listen to find out!

    You Got a Financial Windfall…Now What Jul 17, 2018
    Show notes

Isn't it everyone's dream to wake up one morning and find a financial windfall in your bank account? I think that's why we all rush out to buy lottery tickets when the award is some obnoxiously high number - the hopes that we might find ourselves the lucky one in 175 million who strike it rich. However, coming into a financial windfall could also be a time of confusion - a time to pause and think about how you should spend the money wisely.

    On This Podcast Episode:

On this solo episode, I'm tackling a topic that seems like it's a pro but could cause some confusion and doubt. What would you do if you woke up tomorrow with more money in your hands due to a financial windfall?

I'm talking some of my favorite ideas for how you could be smart with your financial windfall, have some fun, and create a killer game plan that could leave you basking in the windfall for years. (And, of course, I sure hope you wake up one day a lottery winner...)

Your Money Thoughts & Their Special Powers with Michelle Bobrow + Ask Shannah Jul 13, 2018
    Show notes

There's really no easier way to say this - your money thoughts have as much of an impact on achieving goals as the actual "how-to's" and practical advice about money. This is the message I've shared since the beginning of the podcast, and it's one that Michelle Bobrow from the Holistic Wallet shares as well.

    On This Podcast Episode:

Meet Michelle Bobrow. She's built a whole brand around mind shifts in all areas of our lives, but particularly finances. Michelle focuses on money psychology to integrate healthy and balanced financial habits into our lives.

Through strategic planning and mindful coaching, Michelle turns numbers into a work of art as she designs holistic budgets and sustainable systems for you to pay off your past, save for your future, and enjoy the present. (YES, that's what I'm talking about).

    We cover some good points:

    • How the recession impacted her as a college student at the time and the lesson she learned
    • How you can begin to create powerful money shifts right away
    • Why non-judgmental talk is the best kind of talk around money
    • How you can create an awareness of what makes you feel good and what makes you feel like crap around your finances

Summer Money Checklist + Happy Birthday Shannah Jul 06, 2018
    Show notes

Today's episode was inspired by a listener question wanting to know how to use their summer hours to check some items off the good ole' money checklist - the only problem is where to start. Your summer money checklist can be comprised of anything that you want to accomplish - but remember to keep it simple and relatively easy to accomplish so you'll make sure and stick with it.

    On This Podcast Episode:

I'm dishing some of my favorite items that can go on your summer money checklist:

    • Update your goals
    • Check on your beneficiaries
    • Boost your credit score (or check it out)
    • Give your 401(k) a little love
    • Negotiate a bill

These are my favs, but you can choose anything that you'd like to get checked off your list this summer. Think about all those loose ends that you haven't tied up yet.

Also, we're celebrating my birthday on this episode, and Jeff is joining us for a lightning round of questions all about me. Find out why we're talking about Kenny Rogers and animal crackers and so many more funny questions thrown my way.

    Show notes

“There are days I wish I could crawl back into my parent’s house and make them make all the decisions," proclaimed Airka Pierce. Haven't we all been there on those days when life just doesn't seem to make sense? There are ways to win at adulting, and our podcast guest, Arika Pierce, is dropping some bombs of wisdom on this podcast episode.

    On This Podcast Episode:

On this podcast episode, we’re chatting about some of her favorite playbook advice for your wallet and your career, and why she says that her best piece of advice is, "always be comfortable with being uncomfortable."

Today's Ask Shannah question is from Dylan who is curious about the difference between buying life insurance through his company or through an outside company like Haven Life.
