SDH177: How to Build a Supportive Tribe and Why It is Important to Have One With Stacie Brown, Kim Bosse, Debra Guinta, Liz Traines, and Jessica Zweig Jul 27, 2017
    Show notes

What does success truly look like in your eyes without comparing it to others? In what ways does your business enrich the lives of your clientele? Can you allow your business to act as an extension of yourself and the entiriety of your being?

Amongst the flow of wine, She Did it Her Way dives into these questions at the Boss Dinner with a variety of successful female entrepreneurs. The event is a celebration of powerful women with a goal of creating strong networks aimed at promoting and uplifting one another.

Today, we meet Debra Giunta, Kim Bosse, Stacie Brown, Jessica Zweig, and Liz Traines. Debra is the founder and director of Design Dance, a community-based educational dance organization. Design Dance's classes are taught by well trained dancers who teach routines that have an elevated performance aspect to them. However, Debra wanted her classes to be available to students of all income levels, in order to provide easy access to a high quality dance education. Today they serve 1,500 students annually with over 120 classes a week.

Along her entrepreneurial road, her greatest epiphany and daily practice is learning to find and be happy with her own version of success. An exercise that keeps her in this mindset is 90-Day projects and goals geared towards growing her business and herself. By having these short term goals, she increases her productivity and it allows her feel accomplished on her own terms.

Another boss lady learning to thrive on her own terms is Jessica Zweig, founder of Cheeky Chicago and The SimplyBe Agency. Jessica began her self discovery after she started her first business, Cheeky Chicago; an online lifestyle magazine for women. After having to take a month off of work to recover from a sinus surgery, she entered into a deep depression. She had invested so much of herself into her business that when she had to stop, she felt as though she had lost herself and her purpose. It was after an emotional breakdown on a park bench that she bounced back and regained clarity.

She had looked down at a tattoo on her wrist from years ago that said, 'Simply Be, Girls can See it'. It reminded her to be okay with wherever and whoever she was in her life, and to live authentically. From there she was able to rebuild herself seperately from her business, so it wouldn't define her. It also led to the creation of her second business, The SimplyBe Agency, which helps turn budding entrepreneurs into creative leaders by helping them create digital content to cultivate audiences and make an impact.

Stacie Brown, Managing Director of Carver Peterson Consulting, helps new entrepreneurs as well by giving new entrepreneurs direction, how to drive revenue, building a staff, along with other business counseling.

One thing she prides herself on with her business is creating a healthy work environment built off of trust and transparency. By building a business culture with these pillars at its core, it creates a working environment where everyone feels comfortable engaging and communicating with one another in a professional and constructive way; whether it be about the good, the bad, or the ugly. With this open communication, she is also able to make better decisions as a leader, and effectively solve problems to benenfit the company and associates.

Kim Bosse, owner and co-founder of Birch Road Cellar, is learning the same thing and in different capacities. Birch Road Cellar is an event space for members of their club to throw gatherings. The intimate space is homey enough to host small get-togethers between friends or larger events such as the Boss Dinner.

For Kim, one of her best business decisions, but also achallenge, is delegating and tailoring areas of her business to fit her strengths and weaknesses. While as an owner this tactic is best for certain tasks, it can keep her complacent and too comfortable. She keeps herself evolving by taking control of sales or pitching to potential members. Admitting that sales isn't her strong suit, at some point there has to be growth, and she likes interacting with potential members, and evaluating if they are a right fit herself.

By getting comfortable with the uncomfortable in her business, Kim has taken this approach with her personal life, too. She actively tries to say 'yes' to things that may not make sense or is responsible, but wants to take that chance in order to learn and have that experience.

Liz Traines, founder of Liz Traines Coaching, went on a similar journey as she transitioned from the monotony of the corporate world to the freedom of entrepreneurship. Now a career and lifestyle coach, she focuses on helping other women find a career that they love.

A veteran to the She Did it Her Way Podcast, we previously heard how Liz spent years living the life she was told, growing in the finance world, and becoming what other people deemed 'successful'. But that path was not her truth, and when a stranger at a New Year's Eve party pointed it out, she was shaken from her trance.

She then spent a year living outside her comfort zone, traveling, and practicing self care. It still took her a while to finally leave her corporate job, but when she did became confident, and felt in control of her life.

Soak up this jam-packed episode as you hear more about these amazing women!

Find joy in achieving short term goals and how to rebuild your life and career around that
Start to be your own problem-solver in your business
Know how to build a productive, trusting, and open work culture
Begin to find fulfillment in your own version of success
Figure out how to establish yourself as a boss while keeping a positive relationship with her team
    INSIGHTS

"If you want to be profitable, you really need to talk to your client...Take the leap, go meet with a client...go work with someone so you can have an experience that teaches you what people actually need and want and what they'll actually pay for..." -Debra Giunta

"When you don't have a boss, you're constantly defining your own success. And I think we are bombarded with versions of success that look like something we might want. And sometimes even when I think I have reached a point of success that I have defined for myself, I see someone else's point of success and I'll compare myself to them. So I think it's really about taking those moments throughout the day to re-center yourself and refocus on where you're at." - Debra Giunta

"When you set short term goals, what you force yourself to do is to really focus...and you're like, this is where I'm at...and I'm on this ride, and it's a sprint, and in 90 days I'm going to make a new goal." -Debra Giunta

"There's something to be said about having corporate structure that provides you with resources but it's pretty fun when you think through the problem, solve [it], and execute on the problem yourself." -Stacie Brown

"There's skillsets as an owner that are different than an employee; [you can't be] afraid to be humble, to ask for help, and seek out the support system that can really make you better. And frankly, that's just letting your guard down and being vulnerable with the things you don't know." -Stacie Brown

"I'm [my staff's] boss first, and their friend second, and that's been a shift in mindset...and I think I'm finding the balance between really loving my team and knowing that they love me too, but at the end of the day they respect me. It is an intentional practice everyday, and that was a very, very hard lesson for me to learn." -Jessica Zweig

SDH176: Become Relentless and Trust Your Dream with Rachel Drori Jul 24, 2017
    Show notes

As you go through the work day do you find yourself falling victim to those cupcakes in the break room? The lure of the overpriced vending machine? And the ease and quickness of popping a few power bars in your bag in the morning as nourishment for the rest of the day?

Rachel Drori is here to change that with her deliverable and organic soups and smoothies from Daily Harvest. Made for people who want to eat healthy but live a busy life on the go, her products come frozen and pre-packaged in single serve cups and bowls with whole ingredients like avocados, dates, and kale, among others. All consumers have to do is add a liquid or broth of their choice and get to cooking or blending! With recipes cooked up by herself, a nutritionist, and a Michellin star chef, she aims to build a transparent brand that consumers know they can trust, and deliver products that truly provide them with the nutrients that they need to perform their best.

The concept for Daily Harvest started when she worked at Guilt Group, and juggled multiple roles between customer acquistion, loyalty, and branding. With hardley anytime for herself, she fell into the trap of grabbing junk food for a quick energy source. Starting to feel fatigued and constantly undernourished, she started pre-packing her own smoothies. She began seeing how having nutritionally-rounded and filling smoothies helped her function better throughout her day, and how preparing her smoothie packs cost her very little time in the morning. Then once her husband started stealing her packs, she saw they were not only convienient and helping her, but others as well.

So she started to test the market with her smoothie packs and set a consumer metric for herself. Once she was able to get 5x more customers outside of the people she knew, she would seriously invest in her business idea and quit her job.

After she hit that mark, she gained faith and confidence that her business had legs and she launched Daily Harvest's beta website, and got a commercial kitchen in NYC's Long Island City. For eight months, she funded herself and was the company's only employee. She hatched the recipes herself, bought them, packaged them, and drove around NYC delivering orders to consumers. Not to mention she was pregnant at the time!

On her delivery runs, she used that one-on-one time with customers to conduct more market and product research. She gained valuable information and feedback, and was able to solve a merchandising issue with one of her smoothies, Carrot Chia. Originally called, Wake-n-Cake, the smoothie wasn't selling despite it's great flavor and health benefits. Puzzled as to why, she talked to customers and conducted a blind taste test, and found that customers loved it. Taking what she learned, she was able to know that it was simply the name and how the smoothie was portrayed.

As her business continued to grow and her money started dwindling, she started looking towards external funding. She was met with a lot of no's because venture capitalists couldn't grasp the weight of the smoothie market, and the benefits of organic smoothies. But, as luck would have it, she was able to land one institutional investor, as well as some angel investors from her target audience, and Daily Harvest was able to enter into a new chapter.

Take a breather, and have a listen to how she developed a tough skin and fought for her dream in today's episode!

    In this episode you will...

Gain confidence in your business idea to withstand the critics
Learn to take the negative feedback you get from venture capitalists in a constructive manner
Understand the best way to alter or preserve your products to match the likes and dislikes of your market
Find out how to develop a core mission and concept for your business
Distinguish between methods of developing customer acquisition and loyalty
Become relentless in starting and managing your business
    INSIGHTS

"It's hard to have people poking holes in what your passion is...when you believe in it...So you've gotta have some mental fortitude, but also really believe in what you're trying to build." -Rachel Drori

"The way that I built Daily Harvest and my true belief is that ...I would like to be this hugely customer centric business with its roots in hospitality...if I keep that at the core of what we're trying to build, it allows me to keep the customer first." -Rachel Drori

"As a start-up, things happen and you don't have the resources to be able to flex your guns...and make this right. Sometimes the customer suffers and I believe it's all about transparency and having a relationship with the customer where they know that you're being genuine." -Rachel Drori

"Where I've grown the most is being relentless. It's not my natural personality, but when you have something that you're trying to build...there's no....hierarchy holding you back from it, you really do have to be relentless in everything, and knowing that what you're creating is worthwhile and being able to motivate and entire team behind what that is." -Rachel Drori

SDH175: Redesigning Your Life and Finding What You're Meant to Do with Liz Traines Jul 20, 2017
    Show notes

Is your career one that you were told would pay the bills? Was it the career path that you were told you should want? Are you living a life that you were told was a 'successful' one? Does it make you truly happy?

Currently a career and lifestyle coach, Liz Traines, founder of Liz Traines Coaching, helps women get out of this rut and create careers that they love. Her target audience are women in the corporate field who have given all they can to their jobs, and are left drained. She wants to help them build a career that fulfills them at the end of the day, and doesn't cause them to neglect themselves and their mental health in the process.

Liz's drive to be a support system for these women came fromher experience in their shoes. For six years, Liz worked in the corporate finance world because it was a stable career that would make her money; but something about that field never sat well with her.

She ignored this feeling and continued to grow at her company, and live a life full of traveling and became a well-respected leader amongst her peers. Yet she was miserable, and it took a stranger at a New Year's Eve party to call her on the bluff that she was living. To him, it was evident that she wasn't happy or fulfilled with where she was in her life, and his observation was the jolt that she needed to make a change.

Now that she had broken free from the mindset of what she should do, she had to go on a journey to find out what she actually wanted to do. She began to take time off of work to travel for herself, practice self care, and spent about a year doing things that scared her and were outside of her comfort zone.

However, she still hadn't gathered the courage to quit her finance job, but it did help her figure out where she wanted to go in the new chapter of her career. Her job had sent her to India to teach and train new hires about their corporation. The connections she made with them made her realize that she loved teaching, getting to know people on a deeper level, and helping them flourish. But, after giving a presentation to get them excited about their company, she felt like an imposter because her passion for the company was no longer there.

Her decision to leave was soldified when she returned home, and after two days, she had to fly out to New York City during the holidays. As she was surrounded by the smiles and electricity of Times Square, she knew she could no longer lie to herself and the company, and finally talked to her boss.

After taking some time to re-energize, and watch some Netflix, she continued to learn how to really pamper herself without guilt. Coming from years of putting the needs of her job and others before herself, the concept and practice of self care without feeling selfish took some time for her to grasp. But through the process, she was able to empower herself, become more confident, and gain clarity about her next step.

Settle in and listen to how Liz teaches her clients to talk through their fears in order to progress, and more about how she found herself and rebuildt her life on her own terms!

    In this episode you will...

Begin to prioritize your mental health over your career
Learn to do some things that scare you in your personal and professional life
Know how to emotionally unblock yourself
Figure out ways to re-center yourself or leave the corporate world
Become acclimated to pampering yourself and practicing self care
Discover the fears that you may have that are holding you back
    INSIGHTS

"We get so buried in the day-to-day of the thingsthat we have to do, that we don't think that much about the things that we want to do." -Liz Traines

"I felt I had built up this persona of who I wanted to be, but it wasn't truly me. It's like I had this shaky foundation of...what feels authentic to me. It was like there was this disconnect with the person I was externally...and there was this internal part that was just like, 'who am I?'" -Liz Traines

"If I don't put myself first, I don't operate at my best level...I have to shift my mindset and focus more on me...that kind of empowered me to [practice] self care; some people are built with it...but it wasn't modeled for me and there was so much guilt with that. So I think one of the big things from day one until now is I see the benefits...of doing things for myself." -Liz Traines

"I've completely created my schedule around how I want it to be, not what I think an entrepreneur should have as a schedule or what I think society...designates as a schedule...You really get to do it your way if you're willing to dig deeper and unlearn what may not be working for you...and build a vision about what it could be and make it happen." -Liz Traines

"What are those stories in your head that's telling you that you're not good enough...the moment we connect with why that story is there and that it is just a fear...and we have the control to make the future different than our past, it's liberating." -Liz Traines

SDH174: Being Real. Living Honestly. Finding Your Power with Catherine Grace O'Connell Jul 17, 2017
    Show notes

How many times have you felt as if the weight of the world was on your shoulders, and when asked what's wrong you said, 'I'm fine!'? How did that affect you emotionally? Why couldn't you say what was wrong?

Catherine Grace O'Connell said that this is due to the societal pressures that people, more specifically women, face to keep up a perfect facade. Most women are taught not to acknowledge or express the exhaustion from the stressors in our lives, which could be motherhood or possibly marriage. By conforming to these pressures, we can end up loosing ourselves in the waves that society and life has laid before us. Catherine said the key to finding yourself again is by becoming honest and aware of our emotions and speaking on them so we can begin to effectively heal and gain clarity, as well as empowerment.

This is why as a fashion lifestyle blogger, radio host, and journalist she aims to use her platforms to promote open, and real communication, as a stepping stone for women to find their strength and empowerment. This was done for her by Jen Sincero, with her book , You are a Badass, and brand after Catherine almost lost her life due to lyme disease in 2014. Along with a blog Catherine had started, her connection with Jen helped unlock the fierce strength she had inside of herself and made her want to help open that for other women as well.

Catherine said through real communication, we can begin to live honestly and mentally heal ourselves of our insecurities, internal sufferings, and negative baggage. That is why she is so willing to share her story with others and wants to create a supportive community with her brand.

Come with us as we delve into how her near death experience helped to reinvent and empower herself, and how she empowers other women like with her new podcast Cat & Kaehler with cohost Kathy Kaehler, and her Fierce 50 Campaign!

    In this episode you will...

Figure out how to shed light on an invisible demographic with your brand
Learn how to know yourself at your deepest level and empower yourself
Become comfortable with expressing your true emotions and taking steps to heal and be real with others and yourself
Know how to promote authenticity and promote positivity with your platform and brand
Find your method of emotional expression
Realize that a lot of situations in life have nothing to do with you but are a reaction to something larger
    INSIGHTS

"Fashion is my medium, it is not my message. I find fashion to be a very powerful medium and platform, yet my message is really all about empowering women." -Catherine Grace O'Connell

"This Fierce 50, it's really a part of my brand now and we're all about shifting the perception of women over 50, because the truth is...Advertising and marketing really hasn't opened up to our demographic...My message is not 'us vs. the younger demographic'. What about all of us? It's really a reflection of society now and [how] we've really come together." -Catherine Grace O'Connell

"Personal empowerment really was my way out. I stopped all the crazy stuff people do to heal and I empowered myself, very much like [Jen Sincero] did in the [You are a Badass] book, and it was incredible what that change has brought in my life...not allowing people to define us; really staying true to who we are authentically...we can really stand up inside of ourselves [and] have very firm energetic boundaries." -Catherine Grace O'Connell

"I tend to wear my heart on my sleeve and I share it all, because the truth is if we're not open and honest we can't give others the permission to be open and honest as well, and we're all suffering in some way...but the key to healing ourselves and healing others is to really let those walls come down." -Catherine Grace O'Connell

"This platform that I have now...is really all about being as real as I possibly can. Not negative, but real." -Catherine Grace O'Connell

"We do others a disservice when we always put that happy face on and we constantly deny that there's something off in our lives, and things aren't perfect...you have to be real with this." -Catherine O'Connell

SDH173: Learn How to Protect Your Energy with Isabel Hundt Jul 13, 2017
    Show notes

Do you feel as though you can't help but contract the energies of your environment? Have you met someone, and with no explanation feel that something is off?

Isabel Hundt, a transformation coach, public speaker, author, and Empath Warrior, says these sensations are caused by mirror neurons in our brains. Mirror neurons cause people to feel the same emotions as their peers and can be affected by environmental stressors and energies. Everyone feels some form of this, but someone who is an Empath experiences these sensations to such an extreme that they obtain certain gifts due to highly developed mirror neurons.

These gifts range from having prophetic visions or dreams, and the ability to communicate with nature, animals, and spirits. Isabel, who identifies as an Empath, has had variances of these gifts as well astelepathic abilities, and the ability to see auras and energies in the form of colors. However, the most common thread amongst empaths is their sensitivity to the energies of others and the environment where they can completely absorb that baggage and be negatively affected mentally and physically.

Due to this danger, she stresses that Empaths protect their energy, and learn to separate their emotions from others in order to take control of their health and well-being.

To protect her energy, she meditates outside every morning to connect to nature and become emotionally and mentally centered. Or she uses the power of her visions to picture an orb of white light, which has the highest positive vibrations, and purple light, which represents spiritual enlightenment. She accompanies this vision with a prayer, asking to be covered in their holy energy and put forth positivity into the world, while deflecting the negative.

With her transformative coaching, she hopes to be an aid for other Empaths trying to understand their gifts and help instill confidence in themselves so they can find their voices, and support the energetic shift she said is happening in this Millennial dominated world.

Take second and learn more about how Isabel obtained her gifts, and became the ultimate Empath Warrior!

    In this episode you will...

Find out if you are an empath and tips on how to navigate life as one
Become more aware of the energy signals that people send out
Learn how to protect your energy and separate your emotions from others as an empath
Connect with people who are on your same page and can help you grow your business
Be able to know to act off of your intuition, rather than the logical approach
Know how to avoid energy vampires and keep yourself operating at a high vibration
    INSIGHTS

"If you talk to empaths...they tell you it's really hard to really stay in connection with friends and to have a deep relationship with people because they get scared at some point...Most of them feel really overwhelmed and frustrated and a lot of them have depressive faces and panic attacks and anxiety. They'd rather just hide... [but] their heart speaks so much louder and they can see." -Isabel Hundt

"An empath warrior! They are warriors at heart! They know they have something to give to the world and they need to get out there too! It doesn't have to be speaking, but they know they have to get out there in a bigger way, but they don't know how to bring both together; the introvert and the extrovert." -Isabel Hundt

"Everyone has the mirror neurons and we can actually train that to become more aware of what is going on around us, to really look at people. But nowadays, I think we're so fast paced, that we don't take time to really look at the person and really take in what they send out. Because everything has energy." -Isabel Hundt

"I meditate every morining...and I often sit outside...It just helps me to really feel grounded to nature and to connect. I'm at this point now where I don't feel my body anymore, just feels like you become one with everything around you. And that helps me to really feel centered." -Isabel Hundt

"Everything around me is protected. My electromagnetic field is closed, and I can send out the positive energy and I can receive the positive, but the negative won't stick on me. I think most of the time, that' s the problem with people. We know now that energy can get trapped in your physical body and it can create illness." -Isabel Hundt

"As a spiritual person, there is no logic. There's intuition...there's guidance...Empath's have a very distinct purpose in this world and right now we see an increase in people who consider themselves empaths...and it's time for them to wake up and really use that gift because it shifts the whole energy of the world." -Isabel Hundt

SDH172: Learn How to Get More of What You Want with Stephanie Dalfonzo Jul 10, 2017
    Show notes

In what ways can you take back your joy? How can you take hold of your own destiny and bring positivity into your world?

In this episode, Stephanie Dalfonzo shares a multitude of ways for people to harness their energy as well as managing and relieving their stress and anxiety through various self help methods. With her expertise ranging from hypnotist, essential oil educator, intuitive women's coach, among other things, she helps her clients put the power of their happiness into their own hands, and transform their mindsets with techniques such as EFT tapping and her form of affirmations.

Her formal education as a coach started when her husband was diagnosed with a life-threatening disease that caused him to need a liver transplant. With the odds of him matching a donor very slim, and her being a stay-at-home mom, she was faced with the possible reality that she would have to raise her children on her own with no career to fall back on.

And so, she decided to go to coaching school on the internet and reinvented herself as a therapeutic hypnotist and a intuitive coach, using methods like EFT tapping. EFT tapping is a transformative energy technique that puts the power of healing and controlling your emotions at your fingertips. Acting with a similar method as acupuncture, faster EFT tapping pin points pressure points in your face and body, and is a simple procedure that can be done at any time to minimize the stressors in life.

Another way Stephanie helps her clients think positively and eliminate negative thoughts and actions is to become aware of the negative thoughts that they think about themselves. Stephanie said that most of the time, we are the ones to say the nastiest things about ourselves, and soon we become our biggest critics.

But awareness of these thoughts is not the cure to eliminating negativity in your life. The next step is practicing a form of affirmations where she asks her clients to pose them as questions, based off of the book Afformations by Noah St. John. Traditional affirmations typically act as meaningless statements that don't incite action and tackle underlying emotional issues. By changing the affirmation into a question, you begin to encourage yourself and recognize the progress that you are making towards your goals. INSIGHTS

"The tagline of my business is: Simple Shifts, Lasting Changes. Because...I have the wisdom now of understanding [that] we want to make things so complicated, and when we break it down into simple shifts...woah! That puts the control of your emotions back in your hands. And that's so empowering, isn't it?" -Stephanie Dalfonzo

"The first step is to start turning up the volume on the awareness of what we're saying to ourselves...raise your hand if you talk nasty to yourself like you wouldn't talk to someone else...We all do this, it's just to what extent. And as we start turning up the awareness on it, then it gives us the opportunity to change it." - Stephanie Dalfonzo

"...we make these affirmations, we make these statements that we don't believe to be true...Instead write it out as a question...and I take it a step farther and I add...'thank you' because expressing that gratitude...we're putting those great energetic vibrations out into the universe. And now, we're harnessing the power of our subconcious mind to be like our Google search." -Stephanie Dalfonzo

"I have really taken control as the CEO of my business instead of handing it over to someone else and trusting them, because if you have your own business, no one is going to be more concerned about your business as you are...I'm not saying don't trust people, but don't blindly trust them." -Stephanie Dalfonzo

SDH171: Create a Career Doing What You Believe In with Amanda Berlin Jul 06, 2017
    Show notes

Do you feel as though your current job is conflicting with your conscious? Are scared that if you leave, you will have no idea how to put your skills to use in another field?

After working for a PR firm as a publicity strategist for six years and wrestling with these questions, today's guest, Amanda Berlin, was laid off. After promoting and representing companies that made her question her morals, she wanted to use her powers for good. So she became a communication strategist and business consultant for businesses and people who help others work on self improvement and promote healthy lifestyles.

As she became more unhappy with her PR job, she became determined to reach personal and professional fulfillment. She began working with personal development coaches, such as Gabrielle Bernstein, and her love for helping others and promoting harmonious living was born.

But first, she had to work towards gaining her life coach certification, which took a couple of years. After soon finding she had a baby on the way, she was caught in a moment of panic. She was able to shake off this fear off by reminding herself of her strength and ability to maneuver through tough life obstacles with ease.

After holding some odds and ends jobs, she reached out to the executive director of the organization she was getting her certification through, to see if they needed any help based off of her skills. When she found herself writing a proposal for a big consulting job, she felt like she was doing work that didn't make her happy again. Once she dived into the proposal, she really took to the form of startegic thinking. She was also able to hone her skills to begin her new career path in PR, which entails helping her clients with web content, telling their story, and promoting their message through different media channels.

The first thing Amanda suggests to entrepreneurs looking to spread the word about their business is to reach out to their local media, like a tv station, newspaper, podcast, blog, magazine, etc. Then find the decision maker and pitch directly to them. However, to establish a genuine connection, start by showing apprectiation for their craft , work, and process. To get a foot in their door, offer to help promote them within their audience and yours in a unique way first.

Once a relationship has been established and you've proven to be a worthwhile engagement, your pitch should consist of an idea, not yourself. You should act as a perfect spokesperson for that idea.

Come join us and learn more ways to promote your business and how Amanda has streamlined her coaching process with her new program, Empowered Publicity!

    In this episode you will...

See how to find your passion in a project that may not be ideal
Find the best channels of publication for your business and yourself
Know how to pitch an idea and not yourself
Learn how to make initial contact with a media platform
Start to tackle your tasks instead of procrastinating to increase your productivity
Figure out how to create an honest circle of support
    INSIGHTS

"If I could help people who are doing this amazing work of helping others improve their lives...then maybe I can feel like I have a conscious in this PR work. That's where my philosophy was born in terms of my own professional experience and...using my powers for good." -Amanda Berlin

"That's really like the beauty of PR and publicity. You're offering something valuable to another audience in exchange for the opportunity to be in front of that audience. So you have to show up with something valuable in order to capitalize on that." -Amanda Berlin

"I love the idea of creating a relationship and offering to help someone that maybe is a couple steps ahead of you on the entrepreneurial road...I think that's really the key...to differentiate yourself by offering them something valuable" -Amanda Berlin

"Make sure you have support...you're getting perspective with an outside set of eyes. You're inviting someone in who isn't as close to it as you are and can offer you some...advice that...you cannot see from the inside." -Amanda Berlin

Would you refer to your current job as soul sucking? Are you plotting your escape everyday but have yet to take action?

After giving the corporate the shot after shot, and never finding fulfillment or excitement in her job, today's guest Molly Rose Daly had finally had enough. She had dreams of traveling and living life at her own pace, with work being able to follow her. She found this fit as a virtual assistant for clients ranging from high-end speakers, authors, course creators, and everything in between.

Being in the profession for the past few years now, she has mastered the various tasks, mind, and skillsets needed as a VA and has created the Academy for Virtual Assistants to teach others who are looking for an escape from the monontony of the corporate world, or just want a side job that makes decent pay, and is flexible with their schedule.

A tip she suggests when brainstorming your role as a VA is only providing services that you want to do. The beauty of being a VA is being able to tailor your work, and if you find yourself stuck doing a task or project you hate, you've lost an aspect that makes being your own boss great. She also recommends protecting yourself with contracts, and being transparent when communicating with clients to create a clear understanding of what you expect from the business relationship, and establishing honesty for a productive work environment.

Listen in for more tips on how to become a VA and more on how Molly stumbled into the profession and grew her business!

"When you're working on the business, you're not necessarily bringing in income yet. So it's happeningbut the start up for launching a business is expensive, so you're not really reaping the financial benefits. But what is exciting there is the community you're building and the people and all the change and service that you're providing." -Molly Rose Daly

"Providing value everyday...giving away free tutorials...helping without the expectation of people buying. Just providing service and helping others...I want people to be able to escape the way I did..." -Molly Rose Daly

"Mentally I've grown the most because I've focused so much on making my shell and my mind as strong as it can be. At the end of life...You're the only asset that you have. So you should be enjoying what you want to do...learning as much as you can if...traveling as much as you want...[and] taking care of yourself. I got out of the hamster wheel of going to work everyday...and now I'm in this completely different mindset of just enjoying my days." -Molly Rose Daly

What is an anchor? An anchor is something that when you do that ONE THING (or maybe 2 or 3 things) it will impact everything else in your day for good. That might be eating healthy, getting enough sleep, limiting your alcohol intake, hanging out with the RIGHT people. What are your anchors?

After you understand your anchors it is good to know how to keep them in place. Humans motivation in life is because we either want to gain pleasure or avoid pain. Everything we do, decisions we make it either because we want to gain pleasure or avoid pain. Think about procrastination. In the moment we get more pleasure by pushing off the things we need to do than the pain we get from not doing them. Until it gets closer to our deadline and the pain of not doing what we need to do is greater than the pleasure of pushing it off.

Figure out what is stuff + noise vs. energy in your life. What gives you energy and what is just STUFF? Stuff could be daily tasks, people, environment, thoughts. Audit your daily life. Toggl is a great tool to track time and everything you do to provide a snap shot to help you become aware of those activities.

SDH168: How to Gain Clarity & Take Action with Kerry Petsinger Jun 26, 2017
    Show notes

Have you sat back and thought about what truly matters to you in life? How much time do you spend nurturing that? In what ways can you focus on it to reach fulfillment?

This was the predicament of Kerry Petsinger, a mindset and performance coach, a few years ago when she was a physical therapist. As she looked at the four walls of her office, she felt that she could be doing more with her life but she wasn't sure what it was. So she began a weekly newsletter, Your Streamlined Life, that chronicled her journey of finding what mattered most in her life, and how she could streamline those things so she could have more time for her priorities and passions.

To her surprise, her newsletter had picked up an audience from 167 countries! To develop her platform further, she reached out to some of her readers to figure out what resonated with them about her newsletter, what they struggled with, and what they hoped to gain from her posts.

What she found was that a lot of her readers weren't fulfilled by their jobs. They were successful according to societal standards, but they felt stuck, and as though they didn't have enough time to spend with their family, friends, and on their health. This was a result of their failure to balance their lives by having one area prosper, while another suffered.

From there, she developed online courses and programs that helped them find and align their purposes, priorities , and passions. In addition, she coached her clients in learning to think in a larger sense and become high performers in what mattered most to them.

She starts her clients off with reading Strengths Finder 2.0 by Tom Rath and has them take the Fascination Advantage Assessment by Sally Hogshead. With this test, her clients are able to discover what about them shines the most and draws people to them. Once her clients are able to find their strengths and their 'wow' factor, they are able to begin to rebuild their lives based off of these discoveries, and eventually live more fruitfully.

Come and learn more about how Kerry says we can eliminate empty activities through delegation, how to organize you day, and other tips to reaching clarity through action!

    In this episode you will...

Know how to start to align your life with passions and values
Learn what characteristics you have that fascinate others
Figure out what are the empty distractions in your life and how to get rid of them
Learn how to design a tentative schedule for your day and wake up with intention
Realize what can be delegated in your personal and professional life
Be able to find people who are pioneers in your field and know what to take away from their journey
    INSIGHTS

"Clarity comes from taking action. So if you're at a point in your life or your business...where you're not quite sure where to go...or where to focus all your efforts...the more that you get out there, get those ideas out of your head and into the world the more you learn about yourself...who you can help...what your strengths are...[and] what you're really passionate about." -Kerry Petsinger

"When you can do those things where you bring out the way that you fascinate, I feel you can make a bigger impact and just shine brighter because you're doing those things that really resonate with people" -Kerry Petsinger

"No matter where a person is at in their life with whatever your priorities...goals...[and] big dreams are, it's about being intentional. So where do you want to spend your time, where do you want to put your effort, where do you want to spend your money...so you can truly make the difference that you want to make and be a high performer in what matters to you." -Kerry Petsinger

"A lot of times when you're in your business, or in your personal life, anytime you're working on reaching a big goal...and working on leaping towards something, you're going to have...self doubt. And if your thoughts are clouded by all of these people's...advice and they haven't even done it, it's very easy for you to let the mindset stuff overtake you. So to really say I'm going to be super intentional about who I'm learning from...that can help you so much." -Kerry Petsinger
