    Worship Service, July 26, 2026

    Sermon Series: "Pondering the Parables"

Sermon: “Mirror, Mirror on the Wall”

    Scripture: 2 Samuel 12:1-13a

    Rev. Dr. Peter Moon

The story of Nathan and David is fascinating. David has sinned with Bathsheba. In this event, he has violated at least six of the Ten Commandments. Even so, he doesn’t get it. He doesn’t see anything wrong. Nathan sneaks in a parable that makes its way into David’s soul, and suddenly, David understands. It is about him, in the worst sense. He must own his sin. How easily we can do the same thing? We are chronically good at deflecting spiritual and moral responsibility for our own actions. However, one of the gifts of knowing Jesus is that we can, in humility, recognize our shortcomings and find grace and forgiveness. The pain of David points us to take hold of the grace available to us in Jesus.

Sermon Series: "Summer with the Psalms: Praying with Jesus"

Sermon: “Finding Our Joie De Vivre"

    Scripture: Psalm 1

    Rev. Dr. Peter Moon

We are finishing our sermon series at the beginning. Psalm 1 introduces the entire Psalter with a call to choose the way of discipleship. Instead of being chaff that the wind blows away, or the sinners, the mockers, or the sitters who do nothing, we are to be trees planted by the water as we meditate on the word of God. We pray that we can do that and thereby matter in this world and beyond. Not only that, we look to the concluding words of Jesus to us as he invites us to direct others to this same lifestyle of discipleship. The Psalms invite us to this deeper life.

    Worship Service, July 12, 2026

Sermon Series: "Summer with the Psalms: Praying with Jesus"

    Sermon: “Praying with Perspective"

    Scripture: Psalm 2

    Rev. Dr. Peter Moon

How do we pray for our world? How do we pray and not get frustrated at the consistency with which our world gathers around arrogant and unjust leadership? It has happened time and time again in history. Psalm 2 gathers the Son, whom we now know to be Jesus, into the verses and laughs at the kings of the earth. Perhaps this is why Jesus could be silent in front of Pilate. The kings of the earth will lose, and Jesus the King will win. As we pray, frustrated at the lack of change, Psalm 2 gives us holy perspective and patience to deal with this world and its ways so that we keep going and serving.

Sermon Series: "Summer with the Psalms: Praying with Jesus"

Sermon: “To Know as We are Known”

    Scripture: Psalm 139:17-24

    Rev. Stephen Coleman

It is interesting to imagine Jesus praying Psalm 139, especially the climactic concluding verses inviting God to search his heart and lead him in the way everlasting. In an interesting way, that is what happened when he was tempted in the wilderness. His heart was searched and he was led into the better way, within the challenge of the testing. We can pray this prayer with Jesus, remembering that it is a dangerous prayer! We may get more than we asked for!

Sermon Series: "Summer with the Psalms: Praying with Jesus"

Sermon: “God, Where Did You Go?”

    Scripture: Psalm 22:19-31

    Rev. Dr. Pete Moon

Last week we spoke of joy. Today we pray through pain. Here is the beauty of the Psalms. They take us through all the emotions and invite us to bring ourselves to God as we are. With God, we can be ruggedly honest in our thoughts and emotions. When we are, we are praying like Jesus. And, as we pray, we find God carries us through. Jesus in fact prayed this prayer from the cross. In this Psalm, the painful prayer does find power to yet praise from the pain. Such is the power of praying the prayers of Jesus.

Sermon Series: "Summer with the Psalms: Praying with Jesus"

Sermon: "The Best is Yet to Come"

    Scripture: Psalm 100

    Rev. Bayo Ogungbade

We begin our new sermon series, “Summer with the Psalms,” and will discern together how, by living our lives more faithfully rooted in Christ, we can move from having seasonal joy to seasoned joy. We will explore how Psalm 100 invites us to cultivate a joy that is rooted not in our changing circumstances, but in the unchanging goodness and faithfulness of God. As we consider Jesus' first miracle at the wedding in Cana, we will discover that the same Lord who turned water into wine is still able to transform our moments of emptiness into moments of joyful praise. And even better than this - through Christ, even your biggest moment in life doesn’t compare to the joy that lies ahead.

    Sermon: “Profiles in Courage”

    Esther 4:9-17

    Rev. Dr. Peter Moon

Our message will focus on the courage of Esther and Mordecai. They both display different forms of that courage. Esther stood up and faced the thing she feared. Mordecai, in contrast to the surrounding crowds, refused to bow down to Haman. Both characters invite the question of courage and its relationship to faith. What does it look like today to be “faithfully courageous?

    Pentecost Sunday May 24, 2026

    Sermon Series: "Power and Pentecost"

Sermon: "What’s Missing in This Picture?"

    Scripture: 2 Timothy 1:1-7

    Rev. Dr. Peter Moon

Most are familiar with the Pentecost account. Tongues of fire come down as the Holy Spirit rests and burns upon individuals from differing lands. They are equipped to do what they cannot do on their own, and hence, the church is born. This Pentecost, we will review and celebrate the story and also dig deeper into the character of the Holy Spirit who comes to us. Using the initial verses of 2 Timothy, we will be reminded that the Spirit of power is bound by love and self-discipline. The Spirit uses families to pass this faith down generationally, as was the case with Timothy. The passages will encourage us to set aside our anxiety (timidity) and take on an increased boldness and fearlessness in our faith.
