Sermon Series: "Go with the Flow"

Sermon Week 4: “From Holy Spirit to Holy Hands”

    Scripture: James 2:14-26

    Rev. Dr. Peter Moon

In this service, we will be reminded that the flow of the Holy Spirit is not intended to be stopped in us. The point is for the work of the Spirit to flow through us and beyond us. This occurs, as we will discuss this week, through “the work of our hands” (Psalm 90). We all receive gifts for the purpose of building up the body and equipping the body to reach out beyond the world. To paraphrase the words of James, "when we keep it all to ourselves, our faith becomes dead." The sermon will encourage us all to discern the gifts we have, and to put them to work in the ongoing flow of the Spirit.

Sermon Series: "Go with the Flow"

Sermon Week 3: “A River Runs Through It…Me…Us”

    Scripture: Acts 2:42-47

    Rev. Dr. Peter Moon

The Holy Spirit does run through the world, and the Spirit does flow through me. This week, we will be reminded that the Spirit, perhaps even more, runs through us. We are a communal people, and that community is mostly explicitly seen in our gathered worship and small groups. We are formed in the image of the Trinity. The sermon will highlight the priority of corporate worship and will invite us to a renewed understanding of the priority of our relationships. The me I want to be is good with others.

    Worship Service, September 20, 2026

Sermon Series: "Go with the Flow"

    Sermon Week 2: “Uncaged Prayer"

    Scripture: Luke 11:1-13

    Rev. Dr. Peter Moon

Setting aside time for the discipline of prayer can be hard. Lots of things come up to stop the flow of our prayer life. That was the case for Daniel. He prayed anyway. Jesus teaches us, through the Lord’s Prayer, how to pray and gives us a vision of the kingdom of God in our prayer life that can inspire a renewed passion for the possibilities and hope within a devout prayer life. The sermon will seek to inspire and encourage a deeper and more disciplined prayer life as we vow to serve our church and Lord through our “prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness.”

Sermon Week 1: "The Me I Want to Be"

    Scripture: Luke 10:25-37; John 7:37-39a

    Rev. Dr. Peter Moon

The expert in the law asked about eternal life. He wanted to know how to be all that he was supposed to be. The answer seemed simple. Love God and love neighbor. But it wasn’t enough for him, so Jesus tells a story. The sermon this week will introduce our series, "Go with the Flow." We can be more…we can be the person that we and God want us to be. We can love God and neighbor. We can live into the fruits of the Spirit. That occurs by opening ourselves up to the flow of God’s Spirit of grace. Will we seek this life for ourselves and our neighbors in the weeks to come?

    Sermon: "Back to Our Roots"

    Scripture: Matthew 7:24-27

    Sermon: “Kingdom Math"

    Rev. Bayo Ogungbade

This Labor Day Sunday, we’re going to examine our lives and the roots of our foundation together. We will sift through all of the things that are lying beneath the surface of our faith - the things we neglect, the things we idolize, the things we fear, and all things that may block us from experiencing the fullness of God’s love. Join me as we do some self-work together - contrary to the concept of Labor Day. With God’s help, we’ll grow stronger in our resilience and conviction in our faith. Let’s get to work!

    Sermon Series: "Pondering the Parables"

    Sermon: Luke 18:9-14

    Sermon: “The Non-Negotiable Prerequisite”

    Rev. Dr. Peter Moon

God opposes pride. God blesses humility. That is the message of our parable and the reading from Peter. We cannot have a functioning relationship with the Lord when our pride is unchecked. Pride all too easily enables us to presume that God is pleased with us because of who we are and what we do, and that he is more pleased with us than those other people. But as always, loving God means that we love our neighbors, even those who we think don’t measure up. The only way forward is humility. But how do we become humble? The sermon will speak to the way forward and the dangers of our pride.

    Sermon: “It’s Not Fair!”

    Rev. Dr. Peter Moon

It really doesn’t seem fair. A thief and criminal, moments before he dies, seeks Jesus and his grace, and it is granted for all eternity. The workers who bore the heat of the day are paid the same as those who worked just a portion of what they did. How is this just? It is all by grace. We can either fight it or celebrate it, but grace makes us who we are. Aside from Jesus, grace is the defining word of our faith.

    Worship Service, August 9, 2026

    Sermon Series: "Pondering the Parables"

    Sermon: “Wonderful Words of Life"

    Scripture: Luke 16:19-31

    Rev. Stephen Coleman

The parable of the rich man and Lazarus is a very difficult and complex parable in the Gospel of Luke. On one hand, it touches on a very common theme in Luke: the problem with riches and possessions. Yet in the midst of this story where the lowly are lifted up and the rich and proud humbled, there is a line where Abraham says, “They have Moses and the prophets, they should have listened to them.” This story is also about the importance of Scripture as a source of faith and life to us. Our focus for the sermon will be on the power of Scripture, and it will encourage us to be listeners to Moses, the prophets, and all the words of life found in Scripture.

    Sermon: “A Warning Parable"

    Scripture: Matthew 25:1-13

    Rev. Stephen Coleman

As we continue our second summer sermon series, “Pondering the Parables,” we prepare for Stephen Coleman’s sermon by reading the Parable of the Ten Virgins. Through this parable, Jesus calls us to spiritual mindfulness. We need to be ready, stay spiritually engaged, and be mindful of our world and God’s work within it. It is easy, in this world of distractions, to ignore the reality and call of our God and his kingdom, and to let our oil run out. When have we allowed ourselves to be distracted from what really mattered because we thought we had plenty of time to get around to it?
