Living with OCD, Depression, Anxiety & PTSD May 17, 2021
    Show notes

Dealing with mental and physical health problems before she even hit her 20s taught Rachel a lot. She learned what she wanted out of life and about the things that helped her get through very dark times. And perhaps most importantly, she realized that you can never know what someone else is going through. People go through all kinds of shit that we don't know about. Rachel's goal is to make everyone's lives better by discussing all of that shit. Sharing, listening, and laughing about the tough stuff is the only way to get through. Check out her The Raw Contributor Podcast for more.

Molestation, Trauma & Sexual Orientation Apr 26, 2021
    Show notes

TRIGGER WARNING - This episode contains topics of sexual abuse by a parent and trauma. Some people may find it disturbing. The Secret Life team is committed to engaging in uncomfortable conversations to shed light and hope on some of the darkest topics. Our intention is to create a space for guests and listeners to release the shame attached to situations they had no control over.

Amber was just 6 years old when she was molested by her father. A secret she'd kept from her family for over 15 years. Yet when she shared with her mother and sisters, nothing was said or done. Even though they are a tight and loving family, religious beliefs have kept Amber from communicating with her mom about being queer. All the while wondering if her sexual orientation is tied to the trauma from her past.
This year, President Biden announced that April 2021 is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. He calls upon all Americans to protect our Nation’s greatest resource — its children — and to take an active role in supporting children and parents and creating safe communities filled with thriving families.

Jim Clemente: From Child Sex Abuse Victim to FBI Profiler Apr 19, 2021
    Show notes

When Jim Clemente walked into the Bronx home of his former summer camp director, it wasn’t for old time’s sake. The twenty-something Clemente was wearing a wire. Federal agents and an NYPD detective were listening in.

And his old camp boss, Michael J. O’Hara, was showing Clemente pictures of kids he’d molested — just like he’d abused Clemente a decade prior. Clemente had convinced the predator he was a kindred spirit and had to keep his cool, or the criminal case being built against O’Hara — a Boy Scout leader, Catholic school teacher and youth-basketball coach believed to have sexually abused hundreds of kids — would fall apart. (Excerpt from New York Post Article)

I'm Obsessed With Big Boobs Apr 05, 2021
    Show notes

Is there anything wrong with having a type? Don't we all have a type? That's what makes us unique. No two people have the exact same things that they find attractive. But what if our type becomes an obsession? What if it limits your choices, and you find yourself repeating a cycle of bad decisions because of it? They say marrying for looks or money is never a good thing—so does it have to be about something deeper then? Does having a type cut you off from finding someone whose insides are more than the sum of their outsides? In this episode, we talk anatomy and connection.

Bumble: Swiping Right Into My Addiction Mar 22, 2021
    Show notes

Dating apps are a $3 Billion industry with over 270 Million users worldwide. And for an addict of any variety—a dangerous place to swipe.

April found herself falling for the first man she swiped right on. What ensued was a year-long “relationship” that consisted of the two recording their sexual encounters and little else.

Shortly after, she heard our episode with Olivia Munn; she listened to Brianne’s story in episode #1. For the first time in her life, she heard her story and realized that she wasn’t alone. April is now attending meetings of Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous and on her way to transforming her life and creating healthy relationships.

We’ve said it before—if just one person hears something that lets them know they aren’t alone and discover that help is out there, then starting this podcast has been entirely worth it!

The Mistress: Waiting To Be Chosen Mar 15, 2021
    Show notes

Why do women stay once they find out that the man of their dreams is married? Is the saying true; once a cheater, always a cheater? "But he's different... he says he loves me and will choose me." Cut to years later, and that isn't the case. He stays in the relationship he said he was leaving, with the woman he loathed and left you wanting those years of your life back. Lee has kept this secret from everyone in her life except one person. How can she trust another man again?
