Assessing the fit of Dan Quinn as Seahawks head coach, w/ special guest Griffin Sturgeon Jan 16, 2024

Show notes

Griffin Sturgeon is, in my opinion, one of the best analysts in the game when it comes to analyzing scheme, performance and personnel - so I wanted to pick his brain about the possibility of Dan Quinn being the successor to Pete Carroll as Seahawks head coach.

Co-Host of the outstanding Seattle Overload Podcast, Sturgeon has some compelling idea about what a Quinn Seahawks regime may look like:

How would his scheme and defensive execution look compared to what Pete ran?
How would the current personnel fit, and what changes might we see on the roster?
Who would Quinn bring with him as offensive coordinator?
Would he be more or less willing to continue forward with Geno Smith as QB than some of the other candidates?

And much more!!!

Seahawks Salary Cap Offseason Status Check w/ John Gilbert Jan 11, 2024

Show notes

As things stand today, the Seattle Seahawks are currently OVER the salary cap headed into the 2024 season, but don't panic. The team has plenty of avenues to clear payroll space to retain or add key players.

Just what those moves are and which players they'll impact will depend largely on who is hired as the next head coach to succeed Pete Carroll, who was fired January 10th after 14 seasons at the helm.

Field Gulls deputy editor and salary cap expert John Gilbert joins me on this episode to discuss a number of ways the Seahawks can manipulate their salary cap.

How much can the team clear in payroll space?

Which players would need to be cut or traded to create the most flexibility?
Which players on the current roster are "no-brainers" to be released?
Listen until the end for all the answers!

My Top 5 Best Candidates to Replace Pete Carroll Jan 11, 2024

Show notes

Now that Pete Carroll has officially been removed as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, GM John Schneider and his staff have their work cut out for them. The competition for the top coaching candidates is fierce. Which direction will they choose to turn? Go with a veteran like Dan Quinn, or an unproven fresh face like Bobby Slowik? A defensive guru or a modern offensive mind?

To tide you over until the decision is made, I present to you MY 5 favorite candidates.

Agree? Disagree? Got a few other names of your own to throw out?

Let's get to it!!

Pete Carroll OUT as head coach, REACTION with Seahawks beat writer Corbin Smith Jan 10, 2024

Show notes

After much speculation about his future in Seattle, Pete Carroll was removed as head coach of the Seahawks today, ending his 14 year run at the helm in the Emerald City.

What does this mean for the future of the team? Where do they turn next? How long has this decision been brewing?

Seahawks beat writer Corbin Smith of Locked On Seahawks and All Seahawks joins me to give his insider view of how this decision came to be, and which route general manager John Schneider may take to fill the head coaching vacancy, now that he has full control of football operations for the first time.

Hawks win game but miss playoffs, fans want BIG changes, are they coming? Jan 08, 2024

Show notes

The Seattle Seahawks beat the Arizona Cardinals today 21-20 to secure a winning season at 9-8, and yet much of the fan base is losing their MINDS tonight. Why? Because the Green Bay Packers beat the Chicago Bears to earn the final wild card playoff spot in the NFC, eliminating the Seahawks in the process.

Once again the Seahawks defense was atrocious, and it almost led to a loss to the 4-win Cardinals, but that's not all that fans want to talk about in it's aftermath.

Some want to pin the blame on Geno Smith and are calling for an all-out assault on drafting a QB, while others are pining for the dismissal of long-time head coach Pete Carroll.

Tune in for my live postgame reaction with my thoughts on the game itself, and share my thoughts on those topics and more.

Will this be the final nail in the coffin that ends Carroll's tenure in Seattle? Would team owner Jody Allen dare to make such a bold move, especially in light of yet another winning season?

Deja Vu - Pete Carroll promises he'll fix the defense, but should we believe him? Jan 04, 2024

Show notes

Once again the Seahawks find themselves needing a win and a Green Bay loss on the final weekend of the season to sneak into the playoffs, and once again it's due to a bad defensive performance in their latest loss, 30-23 to the Steelers.

Since then, Pete Carroll has said he knows how to fix the defensive issues they're having, and will have them ready to play this Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.

But... haven't we heard this before? Is this yet another broken record of broken promises?

I'll compare some other Carroll quotes about this same issue from the last couple seasons, as well as dive into two other areas of the team where there seem to be huge disconnects and dysfunction right now.

Previewing the Steelers matchup with Jeff Hartman of the Steel Curtain Network Dec 27, 2023

What better way to preview Sunday's crucial upcoming matchup between the Seahawks and Steelers than with someone who covers the opposing team, right?

This week, Jeff Hartman of the Steel Curtain Network asked ME to come on HIS show, and we turned it into a collaborate effort.

Listen in as Jeff and I trade questions about each others teams, and break down what promises to be an intriguing clash between two teams desperate to solidify their playoff standing, and who have a surprising number of similarities.

RAPID REACTION! Geno Plays Santa, Delivers 20-17 Present In Seahawks Win Over Titans! Dec 24, 2023

Show notes

For the second week in a row, the Seattle Seahawks starting quarterback led them on a long, last-minute touchdown drive to pull out an important win.... only this time it was Geno Smith instead of Drew Lock.

Facing the Tennessee Titans in his first game back after missing two games due to injury, Smith shook off some first-half rust in leading the Seahawks to yet another come-from-behind win. And this one was big.... improving the Seahawks record to 8-7 and putting them back in the drivers seat for a wild card playoff spot.

In this RAPID REACTION episode I'll share my immediate thoughts about what we saw in this game: the good, the bad, and the misunderstood.

Go Hawks!
