404: Introducing the Seahawks 2023 Draft Class May 23, 2023

Show notes

With the rookies from the Seahawks 2023 NFL Draft reporting to mini camp, we got the first chance to hear directly from them at the VMAC. Their interviews give us another perspective on the players, their personalities and reactions to their transition to professional football. Before we get to the class, we hear from Pete Carroll and get a sense of how he's been energized going into the upcoming season.

Pete certainly made an early impression on some of the rookies, as Derick Hall commented on Coach Carroll's first meeting with the players. As excited as we were initially with players from the first two days, we became more intrigued by the late round players based off of their interviews. Jerrick Reed talked about giving up video games to dive into the playbook while Olu Oluwatimi talked about the transition from a pro style offense playing at Michigan.

In the second half of the show, we talk about how the Russell Wilson trade turned out for the Seahawks now that all of the picks are in. We also put into perspective any complaints about the offseason in comparison with some of the other NFL organizations. In the Do Better segment, Adam tells a story about an awkward interaction during his trip to the store. Better at Life honors go to a truck stop chain for a very specific feature and to the Seahawks player with the best reaction to being drafted.

Seahawks schedule deconstruction and the Rams 'Caleb-spiracy' May 20, 2023

Show notes

Once the schedule comes out every year, Dave Bloomquist deconstructs the Seahawks schedule and looks for where the easiest and toughest stretches for the team could be independent of strength of schedule. It also helps uncover games that could be easier or more difficult that originally projected. Plus, which teams appear to have the most favorable schedules? This is generally a list that the Rams have been on, but why has that changed this season? Could there be a new 'Lamb-spiracy' in the works?

The Seahawks Top Pick Devon Witherspoon Completes the DB Room May 09, 2023

Show notes

Our Seahawks seemed to take a "Good to Great" approach in this year's draft often choosing best player available even in areas where the team was already quite good. It didn't take long for John Schneider to showcase this philosophy taking elite Illinois cornerback with the 5th pick overall in the 2023 draft. We discuss how this thumper fits and what it does to a unit that was already well above average and what his presence allows for defensively as we head into the 2023 season. We also address why the Seahawks would have passed on addressing another key need and the draft trade that told us all we needed to know about the player.

Seahawks Post-Draft Reaction: 'A plusses forever!' Apr 30, 2023

Show notes

The Seahawks selected 10 players in the 2023 NFL Draft and split them evenly between the offense and defense. Did they improve in the biggest areas of need or was they picking strictly at best player available?

Here's a look at the Seahawks 2023 NFL Draft class:

R1·Pick 5(5) - CB Devon Witherspoon
R1·Pick 20(20) - WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba
R2·Pick 6(37) - OLB Derick Hall
R2·Pick 21(52) - RB Zach Charbonnet
R4·Pick 6(108) - G Anthony Bradford
R4·Pick 21(123) - DT Cameron Young
R5·Pick 16(151) - DE Mike Morris
R5·Pick 19(154) - C Olu Oluwatimi
R6·Pick 21(198) - S Jerrick Reed II
R7·Pick 20(237) - RB Kenny McIntosh

In a draft with a record number of trades, John Schneider only managed one move and it was to give up a third round pick for a future third rounder. Did he miss on his evaluation of where certain position groups would come off the board? In some cases the Seahawks kicked off big runs on position groups. We discuss the philosophy behind this draft strategy, our favorite picks, and the only real grade you can give this year's draft.
