434: Dreaming about a Seahawks offensive explosion Jun 07, 2024

Show notes

Seahawks OTAs wrapped up this week and we had a chance to hear from a few players on offense, as well as our new offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb. We heard a consistent message from players like Geno Smith, Pharoah Brown and Sam Howell about the offense being "quarterback friendly" which translates into a lot of downfield throws. But Grubb's message was a little bit different in talking about play action and having to adjust from the college to the professional game. Can both these things be true or is something missing?

We also picked up on a trait that stands out from Coach Grubb in his transition from college to the NFL. It's a personality trait that a lot of the failed college coaches don't seem to have. We learned this week that head coach Mike Macdonald has dreams about some of his Seahawks players, and he made a tactical decision to avoid naming names. Jay Harbaugh talked extensively about the new kick off rule and we're here to talk about the highlights (we may even want to talk about this more on future shows).

In the second half of the show, we have an announcement regarding the games we plan to meet up with the Flock at during the 2024 season. We're looking at going to at least one road game and one home game. We call out a writer at CBS for a trade strategy that doesn't make much sense for the 2024 season and a national chain for randomly inserting themselves into random transactions. Better at life honors go out to a GPS company and for a moment from Mike Macdonald that made us say, "That's our coach!"

Seahawks OTAs: New Leader Emerging for the Seahawks Defense? May 28, 2024

Show notes

OTAs are underway and the Seahawks sent Geno Smith, Rayshawn Jenkins, and Multiple Mike to the podium to share updates and impressions from the early days of the Macdonald era. What were the biggest clues? Does Macdonald actually like Geno or is he dropping hints that Howell is a long term answer? And with a crowded safety room is Rayshawn an early chosen leader? We cover that and much more on this episode of the Sea Hawkers Podcast.

Seahawks Fans Are Feeling Playoff Vibes This Season May 20, 2024

Show notes

A recent poll by SB Nation says that around 70% of Seahawks fans have expectations for the team to make the playoffs in 2024. As a first year head coach, is that a reasonable expectation for Mike Macdonald? What are some of the wild card factors that are playing into a potential Wild Card match? We also take a look at one of the reasons why fans should be excited -- because there aren't a lot of teams who should be considered a "playoff lock." It's such an open playing field that even the Chicago Bears with a rookie quarterback are favorite to make the playoffs.

We give a mini preview of each week's slate of matchups before getting into what everyone really wants to know -- how the NFL is out to ensure our Seahawks get buried in the standings. While the schedule is front-loaded with a lot of home matchups, Seattle's opponents are getting consistently more days to prepare for their games. 433: The 2024 Seahawks Draft Class - By the Numbers May 09, 2024

Show notes

As the dust settles on the 2024 NFL Draft, we dissect the Seahawks' draft strategy and the potential impact of the new recruits. A post draft show means draft calls! We hear the players' reactions and we talk about the numbers they'll be playing in. What does each player need to do to become the greatest Seahawks player to wear that number. Can they do it?

In the second half of the show, we talk about our Rookie Minicamp takeaways and why Mike Macdonald might be acting like Pete Carroll's age when it comes to running a practice. Austin Rivers made some waves this week talking about how NFL players would fare in the NBA and vice versa. But which sport would be the most difficult for any professional athlete to transition to and which athletes have the best chance to make it in all other sports?

Do Better call outs go toward any writers still trying to trade the Seahawks best players and to a Niners Nation writer for hyping an odd signing for the 49ers. Tune in to hear why Better at Life honors go to John Schneider and to our listeners for helping us reach a big milestone.

Do the Seahawks have a Top 5 Draft and UDFA Class? May 03, 2024

Show notes

EJ Snyder of Bootleg Football returns to the show to break down the Seahawks draft class from his perspective. Did the Seahawks have any other choice but to draft Byron Murphy with their first round pick? EJ reveals where he had Christian Haynes graded out as a "true guard" among his list of draftable guards. Tyrice Knight may have been a head scratcher for some, but it was not a surprise for EJ based on the types of things he was asked to do in college. We go through the Seahawks draft class including the undrafted free agent (UDFA) class and talk about some of the players we see as most likely able to make the team and if they may be a better fit at a different position from college.

Seahawks Draft for Need and Versatility with the 2024 Class Apr 29, 2024

Show notes

The Seahawks 2024 Draft Class is set and there were a few common themes that jumped out from their draft strategy. First, this may have been the most need-based draft the Seahawks have produced in recent years. They picked guards that play guard, they addressed the defensive line and linebacker all within their first few picks. Second, with many of these picks, they talked about their versatility. Does it give us some clues about what they may have planned for the offense and defense? We run through each of the day 3 picks and talk about some of our overall thoughts on this year's class.

Christian Haynes, Round 3 Guard Who Played Guard, Joins the Seahawks Apr 27, 2024

Show notes

It's a lot easier to project where a player will play in the NFL when they start at one position their entire college career. Christian Haynes is simply a right guard who was a four-year starter at the University of Connecticut. We discuss his athleticism that stood out in his workouts as well as on the field and how his play could provide an immediate upgrade for the Seahawks in the screen game. Will he supplant Anthony Bradford immediately this year? Plus, we discuss a couple names we're going to watch for with the Seahawks next two picks in the fourth round.

Byron Murphy II, the top iDL of the 2024 NFL Draft, joins the Seahawks Apr 26, 2024

Show notes

The top half of the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft skewed heavily toward the offense. Quarterbacks, wide receivers and offensive tackles made up the top 12 picks. Seattle stayed put as Byron Murphy II, the top interior defender in the draft, fell to them with the 16th overall pick. After taking Devon Witherspoon last year, the Seahawks have now taken the second defensive player off the board in back-to-back drafts. How will Murphy fit into a rotation that already includes Jarran Reed, Leonard Williams, Dre'Mont Jones, Johnathan Hankins, Cam Young, Mike Morris and Myles Adams?
