438: Seattle Seahawks 2024 Season Expectations Aug 17, 2024

Show notes

Get ready for the Seahawks 2024 season with all the insights you need in our annual season expectation show! We break down each position group, and discuss the impact of the new coaching staff. From Geno Smith's potential comeback player of the year chances to the dynamic wide receiver trio of DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Running backs also get their fair share of attention. Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet are expected to be dynamic forces in both the running and passing game.

Defensively, the excitement continues starting with the defensive backs and the top corners in particular. The linebacker group, while a bit more uncertain, shows some promise. The defensive line, however, is where the most potential for dominance exists. '

In the latter half of the show, we talk about some of the changes we've seen with the new coaching staff and how some fans are approaching those differences. Do better call outs go out to Facebook/Meta and to a writer who is in the pocket of all-you-can-eat deals. We close out Better at Life honoring an 11-year-old for his football skills. Plus, a member of the flock joins in to thank the Seahawks and USAA for a unique training camp experience.

Seahawks Defense Dominates in Preseason Opener Aug 11, 2024

Show notes

The Seattle Seahawks kicked off their preseason with a bang, securing a 16-3 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. Winning is better than losing (even in the preseason), especially when it comes with such a dominant defensive performance. Special teams also had their moments in the spotlight. Michael Dickson was in mid-season form, delivering some impressive punts, including one that pinned the Chargers down at their own two-yard line.

On the offensive side, Sam Howell took the reins for the first half and part of the second, completing 16 of 27 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown. The running game saw Kenny McIntosh and George Holani competing for the third-string job, with McIntosh finishing with eight carries for 40 yards and Holani six carries for 24 yards. We also get into the performances on defense, as rookies D.J. James and Byron Murphy had standout plays for the Seahawks.

Show notes

Preseason football games have officially kicked off. While the Hall of Fame game might not have caught everyone's attention, the buzz around the Seahawks' training camp certainly has. We dive into the latest news from camp and the relief of dodging a major bullet with Geno Smith's injury scare. While some initial reports suggested that Geno was "out indefinitely," Adam Schefter's report on Friday provided some relief.

437: San Francisco 49ers - Know Your Rival 2024 Jul 30, 2024

Show notes

Despite reaching the NFC Championship game four out of the last five years and making it to two Super Bowls, the 49ers have yet to secure a championship ring. In the third and final episode of the 2024 Know Your Rival series, we break down the 49ers' playoff woes, Kyle Shanahan's legacy, and what to expect this season. Will the Seahawks or Rams find a way to overtake the Niners and win the division? Can the 49ers overcome their history of choking in big games?

We discuss many of the 49ers' offseason moves, particularly the changes on their defensive line. The loss of key players like Eric Armstead and Javon Kinlaw could be a significant blow, especially when combined with the aging roster. The hosts discuss how these changes might affect the 49ers' ability to dominate in the trenches.

In the second half of the show, we talk Seahawks training camp and the lack of news around the signing of Connor Williams. Byron Murphy was involved with thwarting an online extortion scheme, which could prove to be useful if we deploy it against our division rivals. Do better call outs go to Brock Purdy and the NFL Network, while Better at Life honors go to scientists for their new findings about Mercury and to a Mariners fan for unselfishly giving up a milestone baseball to a rival.

436: Los Angeles Rams - Know Your Rival 2024 Jul 17, 2024

Show notes

For Seattle Seahawks fans, there's a special kind of 'sports hate' reserved for the Los Angeles Rams. In the latest episode of our Know Your Rival series, we break down everything you need to know about the Rams from coaching and personnel changes to some of the hype surrounding their upcoming season. Can the Seahawks new Head Coach Mike Macdonald solve Hair Gel McVay's offense? At the very least, now that Aaron Donald has retired, it should make scoring points on a weakened LA defense that much easier.

In the second half of the show, we discuss Jamal Adams and his new home, plus the date and opponent of the throwback jersey game has been announced. Some nearby woodpeckers and an entire town both need to Do Better. Finally, Better at Life honors go out to a legend of his industry who recently passed away and to Slate for putting a spotlight on "window seat wasters."

435: Arizona Cardinals - Know Your Rival 2024 Jul 09, 2024

Show notes

It's Know Your Rival season and we are kicking things off with a deep dive look at the Arizona Cardinals. Despite some potentially smart draft picks, the Cardinals' decision to stick with Kyler Murray and a difficult start to their 2024 schedule may doom their chances in the NFC West. But that wouldn't be anything new to the franchise. How does the Cardinals roster stack up? While they've made some major changes by jettisoning long-time veterans, could they still make a significant leap.

In the second half of the show, we talk about potential ownership changes for the Seahawks and have some fun with hypothetical presidential tickets that includes a former member from the Legion of Boom era. Callouts to do better go out toward a nonsensically vindictive state politician and a current NBA player. Tune in to find out why Gardner Minshew and the Seahawks organization are "Better At Life."

Do Seahawks Fans Want Russell Wilson in the Hall of Fame? Jul 01, 2024

Show notes

Before Russell Wilson left Seattle, he appeared to be on a trajectory toward the Hall of Fame. Nine Pro Bowl seasons, two Super Bowl appearances and a championship put him into some elite company among NFL quarterbacks. But is his Hall of Fame candidacy now in jeopardy due to his recent seasons? And how do fans really feel about his legacy in Seattle? Some fans refuse to place him on their Mount Rushmore of top Seahawks players. Is this refusal purely analytical or is it based on emotion? If Russ doesn't belong among the team's top four, do some Seahawks fans even want him in the HOF?
