Episode 52.5: Star Wars, 1977 Edition Feb 06, 2024

Show notes

Get ready True Believers for a first…a Prequel Save for Half! We’ll be reviewing the West End Games Star Wars D6 RPG in episode 53, but first we invite the Curmudgeon in the Cellar himself Tim Kask on to talk about 1977’s Star Wars and its impact on us and the RPG community. Yes, some of us are really old enough to remember Star Wars when it just referred to a single film instead of the Disney juggernaut it is today. Thrills, Chills, and the answer to that age old question of ‘Why is Luke Skywalker looking down the business end of a light sabre?’

No Jedi were harmed in the making of this sideshow, because they were already canonically dead.

Show notes

It’s December, which means it’s time for the patented Save for Half year-end retrospective and email hot tub time machine! Well, DM Liz reads some emails anyway. Forgive our delay in getting to some of these emails, but we kept them in the same calendar year so that’s got to count for something, right? Right?

Episode 50: RuneQuest by Chaosium Aug 20, 2023

Show notes

What’s this? A game of Bronze-Age fantasy that mixes ancient cultures from Sumeria to the Celts? A unique world steeped in legend named Glorantha? Guest host Game Master Ed to explain the actual play of this game? Madness! Yet your Fab 4 are here discussing one of the second wave RPGs that came out in the late 1970s and was arguably the one that gave AD&D the biggest run for its money. Written by Steve Perrin and friends, this game has it all: Spell points, percentile skills, lack of classes, and a combat system that actually encourages you to avoid combat if possible. It’s all here, along with Ducks as a player race. What more could you want?

No Ducks were harmed in the making of this podcast, since it was Rabbit Season!

Show notes

Grab your sombreros and get ready for a hijacked episode of Save For Half. This episode DM Corbett has taken over and brought in everyone’s favorite wacky sitcom next door neighbors, Luau Lou! What happened to the rest of the hosts, you may ask? We reply, you ask too many questions.

Sit back and enjoy an interview with Luau Lou talking about his new game that is getting game tested at the upcoming North Texas Con, Movies Till Dawn. We learn a little history about Lou’s background, what he does for a living, and how he got into gaming, along with anecdotes about his most popular game The Dare Luck Club.

Will your favorite hosts come back? Is the Save For Half Podcast done for? Will they ever review a game again? Just to ease the tension, yes, but keep listening to know for sure.

No ’80s kids were harmed in the making of this podcast, since they were all off fighting pirates!

Episode 47.5: GOZR CharGen Extravaganza! Apr 07, 2023

Show notes

Normally we do up our character generation sessions as extras for the Patreon supporters, but this one was so much fun we decided to make a Sideshow out of it and release it to the entire community! Not only are all 4 Halflings here for the experience, but we are guided in the session by none other than the author himself, J.V. West! What characters did we make? What gear did we start with? Most importantly of all, what are our ears shaped like? All this and more awaits you in this latest show from the Save for Halfling Gooz!

No ladders were priced in the making of this episode, because DM Corbett couldn’t find his Klinks!
