How do you review an APA? Very carefully, but your Fab Four discuss the good, the bad, and the weird NPCs within. Come for the game articles, stay for the singing!

Episode 68: The Spellcaster’s Bible 1979 Jun 11, 2026

Show notes

Get ready for spells to make opponents (and DMs) cringe with fear! This supplement for a popular unnamed Fantasy RPG of 1979 says ‘Hold my beer!’ to only 9 levels of Magic User spells. No, we have 15 levels! Come for the Flaming Black (Fill in the Blank) spells, stay for the exploding eyeballs!

No PC Magic-Users were harmed in the making of this podcast, because it was all Thump damage!

Episode 67: TMNT & Other Strangeness by Palladium May 07, 2026

Show notes

We’ve all been there. A truck spills toxic waste, waste goes into the sewers, turtles are mutated into Ninja Fighting Warriors, and are then trained by a rat. Its an oft told tale, and this show the Halflings delve into that 1980s Palladium license (when it was affordable) of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles into their Palladium RPG system. Come for the dark brooding reptiles, stay for the lack of pizzas?

No animals were harmed in the making of this podcast, only mutated to fight ninjas. Yes, we can’t stress that enough!

Found in the Ruins episode 14: Zombie Apocalypses Apr 18, 2026

Show notes

…or would that be Apocalypti? I forget my Latin, but one thing Doc Benny and Boom Mike don’t forget is how many varieties of zombie apocs there are out there! We discuss everything from the novel I am Legend to crazy-fast zombies of movies of today, to RPGs and even a few video games. We also ask that age-old question of “Just how many days does it take to train a 12-year old to become the Zombie Slaughterer Pursuivant”?

So, take a listen and keep in mind we are spoiler-rich! Especially for 40-year old books and movies…

Episode 66: Fantasy Wargaming, ed. by Bruce Galloway Mar 03, 2026

Show notes

Welcome to the first game review of 2026, and it’s a doozy. Fantasy Wargaming: The Highest Level of All, edited by Bruce Galloway, and published in 1981, is famous (notorious?) for clunky rules, odd premises, and far too much about how terrible the Dark Ages were. Despite no Halflings or Hobbits in the game, your Fab 4 Halflings review the game and blame DM Mike for choosing it after years of threats to do so. Come for the Lions with one head and two bodies, stay for the Devil Worship!

No PCs were harmed in the making of this podcast, though female PCs are pretty ticked off!

No emails were harmed in the making of this podcast, because we only barely found them in time!
