    Show notes

Previously in Part Five of How I Found Love…I had just moved to DC, had started online dating, and was so excited to meet my nice Jewish boy. Just when things were going so well, I took a couple steps back. I found myself crazy about a guy who wined and dined me, yet wasn’t really emotionally available to me. He broke up with me, and then I did a lot of online dating. Then, one of my friends invited me to a happy hour, and Stevie was there...If you missed the full Part Five of my love story, read it HERE. Here is Part Five, aka Three Steps Forward, and Two Steps Back...

When I moved to DC, I was so excited to start dating. I felt like over the past few years since living abroad, I had reinvented myself. I was living in a city I'd wanted to live in for years, I had a new job, and I was just beginning to get ideas of my health coaching business.

It was the first time I had an online dating profile, and I felt like I had thousands of potential partners at my finger tips after I signed up with OkCupid.

I was confident, I wasn’t battling my body, and I was genuinely excited about life. You know how people say though that you take 3 steps forward and two steps back?

Well, that was about to happen to me.

But first, I had to take a giant step back.

Previously in Part Three of How I Found Love… After hitting a low point, things in Charleston were beginning to look up. I loved my new city, I had a great job, and quickly developed a fantastic group of friends. I dated someone for the first time that was respectful and actually wanted to be with me, and my new found confidence allowed me to dodge a bullet from another guy. After breaking up with my college sweetheart, I moved to Jerusalem for grad school. Almost immediately and back to back, I found myself in two different relationships with people who didn’t want to be with me.

Even though I have a travel bug and loved living abroad, it was emotionally one of the darkest times of my life. I got to a point where I couldn’t handle my emotions anymore, so I reached out to a therapist.

How to Not Feel Like a Crazy Person Around Food (or in relationships) with Isabel Foxen Duke Jul 27, 2017
    Show notes

If you feel like a crazy person around food, struggle with your body, and think that if you lost weight dating would be easier, this episode is for you.

This episode hits home for me so hard, because for YEARS I struggled with my weight. I went on my first “diet” at age 10, dieted on and off until I was 26 years old. Dieting and trying to lose five more pounds was just a thing women did.

It wasn’t until I discovered that my worth wasn’t wrapped up in size that not only did I get off the diet train for good, but it helped me become the person I needed to be to attract the relationship I wanted.

You’ll hear Isabel’s passion immediately. She’s been there, and she knows how to get you out of the diet-binge cycle and improve your body image.

    EP79: A Peek Behind the Curtains Jul 20, 2017
    Show notes

Maybe it’s nosy or slightly stalkerish, but I love seeing people’s behind the scenes.

Knowing what you ate for breakfast gives me ideas to switch up my breakfasts. Hearing your morning meditation routine helps me to tweak mine if it’s not quite working for me.

I love seeing the real story behind people’s curated Instagram lives. In fact, sometimes, it’s hard for me to post on Instagram, because I feel like my life is so not Instagram-worthy.

We still had unpacked boxes in our apartment until about a week ago. I’m not the neatest person either. I’m also always wearing workout clothes because I’ve either just worked out or am about to.

Most importantly, seeing people’s behind the scenes helps me to not feel so alone. It’s easy for me to feel like I’m not good enough or that I don’t have my shit together as someone else when scrolling social media.

But when I can see that person’s human-ness, I don’t feel as alone. I begin to see that we’re all in this together. And I can learn from them as someone standing right next to me instead of being above me on some sort of pedestal.

In that spirit, I thought I’d peel the curtain back and show you a bit of a snapshot of what life looks like to me right now.

EP78: The Truth About MANifesting with Bri Seeley Jul 13, 2017
    Show notes

Lately, I’ve noticed a lot of stuff out floating around on the internet about manifesting your soulmate, more money, your dream house, losing 50lbs… you name it. I’m sad to say though, that as awesome as it sounds, most of it’s bullshit.

Don’t get me wrong though. I’m all about manifesting. I’ve manifested this community, our move to Denver, lots of things.

As much as manifesting as changed my life, I’ve see way too many women get the wrong idea. Like, believing all you have to do is want it, and it’ll magically appear, or if a date goes bad, then it must mean the universe hates you.

Nothing could be further from the truth, which is why I’m so excited to have Bri Seeley on the podcast today setting us all straight.

EP77: How to Know What You Need and Want In Your Relationship Pt 2 Jul 06, 2017
    Show notes

They say success is 80% mindset and 20% tactical. In all areas of life, I couldn’t agree more. And what’s why when I got the request to do a podcast episode on discovering what you need and want in a relationship, I knew I had to break it down into two parts: the why and the what, and then the HOW.

Last week’s episode, which was part 1 in this 2-part series was about the mindset and importance of discovering what you need and want in a relationship.

And this week’s episode is all about putting it into practice. Knowing what you need and want doesn’t do you any good unless you know HOW to ask for it in a way that’s effective.

Most conversations I find are so ineffective. Conversations between coworkers, lovers, parents and kids, and employers and employees are riddled with blame, judgment, and accusation, which isn’t going to get you anywhere.

So today’s episode gets into the nitty gritty of how to have an authentic conversation. I go into the weeds here, and since I’m guessing that maybe you’re listening to this episode while you’re walking, driving, or doing something else, I created a freebie you can refer to.

This freebie has some important questions you need to ask yourself BEFORE you ever have this kind of conversation, and it outlines step by step what to do.

    In this episode, you’ll learn:
    • The six questions you must ask yourself before ever having a tough conversation with someone
    • Step by step, how to communicate what you’re dissatisfied with in your relationship and have the other person be receptive to what you’re asking for
    • Exact phrases to use or avoid in your conversation
