Poison punch. It’s toxic. It’s everywhere. And it’s making us all sick. It’s the diets, the weight loss teas and programs, workouts, and superfood powders that say they’re selling health. Or the supplements, creams, prescriptions, makeups, treatments, and procedures that promise to make you look younger and yield you unconditional love. And it’s all the apps, pop-ups, fads, people, retreats, and goop that cost a fortune but guarantee a better version of you. Poison punch is the 70+ billion dollar industry that profits off you looking in the mirror and thinking, “I’m fat, old, tired, and ugly”.
Poison punch is everything you're being told and sold to fix problems that (spoiler alert!) don’t actually exist.
There’s no way in hell the diet and beauty industries are going anywhere. Poison punch is here to stay. And while we might not be able to rid the world of poison punch, we can change our relationship to it. Join hosts Kelly Roberts and Kayla Reynolds M.S. every week as they figure out what’s poison punch, what punch has traces of poison in it, and what’s actually true.
One of the most transformative books that Kelly and Kayla have read in a long time.
In this week’s episode, we are so excited to interview Dr. Lexie Kite, who co-authored More Than a Body: Your Body is an Instrument, Not an Ornament with her twin sister, Dr. Lindsey Kite.
Twin sisters Dr. Lexie Kite and Dr. Lindsay Kite received their
PhDs from the University of Utah. Their academic research on
media studies and body image inspired them to establish the non-
profit Beauty Redefined in 2009 (while concluding their co-written
master’s thesis and beginning their doctoral research) to help
women recognize and reject harmful messages about their bodies,
worth, and potential, and redefine the meaning and value of beauty
in their lives.
Since then, Lexie and Lindsay have become leading experts in body
image resilience and media literacy and have been featured in a
variety of national publications and interviews. Today, they
continue to build on their academic work and the passion it stoked
for helping girls and women through Beauty Redefined’s online body image resilience course and course
facilitator program, and regular speaking events for thousands of people of all ages at universities, high schools, and
community organizations.
More Than a Body has been the most transformational book Kelly and Kayla have read on body image. The book covers everything from self-objectification and body image resilience to the commodification of body positivity and why we need to demand more of a movement that continues to place women’s bodies at the center.
We break down everything there is to know about positive body image and body image resilience, as well as practical tools that you can use to change the way you think about yourself, and your body, and how you show up in the world.
This conversation was insightful, authentic, and nothing short of awe-inspiring.
We can’t wait for you to tune in and listen!
