XV: Startup Acceleration—Behind the Scenes, with Green Stream Technologies and Safe Zone Jun 24, 2019
    Show notes

The next three episodes feature startups who just graduated from RAP—the RIoT Accelerator Program. RAP is 12 intensive, high-touch weeks, and these startups share what it was really like participating in a startup accelerator at RIoT Labs. This episode features Green Stream Technologies and Safe Zone. Join us behind the scenes of the RIoT Accelerator Program!
Green Stream Technologies is an environmental technologies firm. They help build safer more resilient communities through the power of smart technology, and their first product is an autonomous flood sensor network that lets people know when and where the roads are flooded, tell them how deep those water levels are, and lets them know when it’s getting better.
SafeZone has a fully automated Gunfire Detection System that features a cloud-based machine learning Detector, which can notify you within seconds of the room in which a gunshot occurred.

The RIOT ACCELERATOR PROGRAM (RAP) is accepting applications through June 30th, 2019 at 5pm EST. RIoT invites early stage startups in the Internet of Things space to apply NOW to participate in the 12-week high-touch RIoT Accelerator Program. RAP increases the impact of traditional accelerator programming by connecting you with an industry consortium of more than 75 companies across the IoT technology stack. The Fall 2019 cohort starts September 9th, and there is no cost to startups, no equity taken, and there are scholarships available. RAP provides access to prototyping lab and 6 months free office space, plus free tech resources from Arrow Electronics, Ubidots, Particle, Microsoft, and more. Leverage RIoT's network to learn, collaborate, and bring your product to market. Connect with Program Director Rachael Meleney at rachael@ncriot.org for questions.

VII: Live on SXSW Exhibit Floor - SXSW Shows How Conferences are Changing Economic Development, Tourism Industries Mar 13, 2019
    Show notes

This episode comes to you from the middle of the Exhibit Floor at South by Southwest (SXSW). We discuss what it's like to be at this interdisciplinary conference in Austin, Texas and bring you some of the stories of tech and innovation that we've seen.
We talk about this by picking the brains of three guests, speaking to each from their booth at SXSW. First is Jennifer Bosser, Senior Business Retention & Expansion Manager for the City of Raleigh, who's attending SX for the 7th time, and who walks us through how a brand thinks through using SXSW as a platform. Next is Danya Perry, Director of Equitable Economic Development at Wake County Economic Development, who discusses how the diversity and "space to connect" at SXSW mirrors some of his current initiatives and foci. And finally, Loren Gold, Executive Vice President of Visit Raleigh, joins us with a description of how tech is disrupting that space of tourism and economic development.
Don't miss this unique episode, with three different perspectives of how economic development leaders think through brand activation at a large-scale event like SXSW, and how both the conference and those industries have changed in the last two decades.
