    Russia is evacuating thousands more people from its border regions after Ukraine said it was advancing deeper into the country in a lightning incursion. The World Health Organization has declared mpox a global public health emergency for the second time in two years, following an outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo. Taylor Swift will take to the stage in London on Thursday, resuming the world's biggest ever concert tour amid tightened security after a foiled attack forced the cancellation of her Vienna dates.

    Japan’s PM, Ukraine-Russia, US inflation and Iran’s ceasefire demand Aug 14, 2024

    Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida says he will step down next month, succumbing to public disaffection over political scandals and rising living costs. Ukraine has pounded Russian regions with missiles and drones as Kyiv says it is advancing deeper into Russian territory. Only a ceasefire deal in Gaza would hold Iran back from direct retaliation against Israel for the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh on its soil, three senior Iranian officials have said.

    Ukraine’s incursion, Khan Younis evacuation and France’s political hangover Aug 12, 2024

    Russia has evacuated parts of a second region next to Ukraine after Kyiv sharply increased military activity near the border. It is just days after its biggest incursion into sovereign Russian territory since the start of the 2022 war. Israel has expanded evacuation orders in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, forcing tens of thousands of Palestinian residents and displaced families to leave. The Paris Olympics has delivered a dazzling summertime success but President Macron must now deal with a self-created political crisis that he swept under the carpet until the Games were over.
