Learn how to make weight loss easier after menopause and perimenopause. Losing weight after menopause can be tough. It requires a different diet plan - a lifestyle plan really. A drop in estrogen after menopause causes more weight gain in the stomach, or belly fat. It can be so frustrating to know how to get your flat stomach back.

    Highlights From This Episode

    • Why going through menopause and the drop in estrogen leads to a rise in insulin and belly fat.
    • Common signs of insulin resistance.

    69. How to Reverse Insulin Resistance | Why We Get Sick with Dr. Benjamin Bikman Apr 15, 2021
    Show notes

Have a question you want answered on the podcast? Send us a text!

Meet Dr. Benjamin Bikman, author of Why We Get Sick. In this interview we talk about all things insulin resistance! Signs, symptoms, testing, how it’s linked to type 2 diabetes, heart disease, dementia, and more. Dr. Bikman shares information from his book on how to prevent and reverse insulin resistance for sustainable weight loss and disease prevention.

If you have high blood sugar, high blood pressure, or excess weight, this episode is for you. 8-9/10 people tuning in have insulin resistance. For such a common condition, I’m always shocked that so few people even know it exists.

Insulin resistance is at ground zero for weight gain, diabetes, heart disease, and so much more. Dr. Bikman has his Ph.D. in Bioenergetics. As a professor at Brigham Young University and the director of its Diabetes Research Lab, Dr. Bikman studies insulin, including its role as a regulator of human metabolism, as well as insulin’s relevance in chronic disease.

In addition to his research and teaching, Dr. Bikman actively serves as a research mentor to undergraduate and graduate students. He and his students frequently present and publish their findings. He lives with his wife and kids in Utah.

Chronic dieting will not work for sustainable weight loss. The only way to lose weight, keep it off, and prevent disease is to live a low insulin lifestyle. I know that may sound strange to you, but it's true.

When "How will this affect my insulin" becomes your new litmus test instead of "How many points or calories does this have," weight loss clicks into gear.
    Highlights From This Episode

    • What is insulin resistance?
    • What causes insulin resistance?
    • What diseases are caused by insulin resistance?
    • How can we prevent insulin resistance?
    • How can we reverse insulin resistance?
