Episode 11 - RAD pROBcast - Eddie from Nor Cal Gun Vault Jul 30, 2021
    Show notes

Eddie Ford from Nor Cal Gun Vault joins me for a deep dive into gun rights, “reasonable” gun control, and the worst of the worst on both sides of the gun debate in America. Along the way, we discuss the ramifications of taking a human life, the rising crime rate in America, and how things have changed in society as a result of Covid. Come to think of it, we pretty much solve all of the world’s problems, including race relations, raising children, and how to avoid being a victim. We also delve into Eddie’s 20-year naval career, being raised by a father in law enforcement, and growing up in Stockton, California and how much it’s changed.

Rob's Soapbox - It Sucks Being An American In America Jul 25, 2021
    Show notes

I’ve touched on this before and shall continue to do so, since so very few people are aware of it, and even fewer seem to care much once they find out, which remains galling to me.

As Americans remain at one another’s throats over whether or not children need to wear masks in schools and/or get vaccines, and whether or not vaccinated adults need to wear masks, the country is literally importing Covid cases at an alarming rate.

According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP…also known more casually as “The Border Patrol,”), and The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the United States this year, will allow nearly 2 million migrants to enter America illegally by the end of this calendar year, which will be the highest number in more than two decades. There are 13 states in America whose entire populations are below 2 million. Essentially, in 2021, we will have let in the equivalent of the entire population of Montana and Rhode Island combined. Or Hawaii and Wyoming combined. Or Vermont, Alaska and North Dakota, combined. It’s a fun numbers game…try it at home. https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/us-border-arrests-top-1-million-fiscal-year-2021-2021-06-25/

    https://worldpopulationreview.com/states

At this point the conversation can become very convoluted and controversial, so let’s cut through the crap and stick with what is undeniable, rather than getting bogged down into discussions about the living conditions of these migrants in their home countries, whether or not they do jobs Americans aren’t willing to do, or how we can afford this as a nation. Those points and so many others are for another time.

    Here's what is provably happening:

    • Anyone who crosses our Southern border illegally as part of a family unit (and according to CBP, groups of 100 or more family members at a time are crossing in record numbers) are allowed to stay in America. Technically, they are arrested and given a temporary asylum with a hearing date in the future in an American court, and then released…but those court dates are now years in the future, and less than 10% ever even show up for their scheduled appearance.

    https://www.wsj.com/articles/surge-of-migrants-at-u-s-southern-border-bidens-plan-and-what-you-need-to-know-11616788003

    • Any unaccompanied minor is allowed to stay in America. According to CBP, in the first seven months of the current fiscal year, the number of unaccompanied children arrested was about 65,000…all now part of American society.

    • The number of known “Got-aways,” is at a record high. The CBP defines a “got away” as an individual who is not turned back to Mexico or apprehended, and is no longer being actively pursued by Border Patrol. In other words, Border Patrol Agents see these individuals crossing into America illegally, but are unable to apprehend them because they are so overwhelmed and busy. The agency currently estimates 1,500 got-aways PER DAY. That’s over 40,000 people who we know nothing about, including their criminal background, potential gang affiliations, and health, sneaking into the United States every month and now roaming our streets. https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/got-aways-border/2021/04/01/14258a1e-9302-11eb-9af7-fd0822ae4398_story.html

    • Almost ALL of the “got-aways,” are single men, because those are the only people, essentially, that we’re actually sending back when we arrest them. Thus, they just try, try, again until they become a “Got-away.”

    • These are just the numbers that we know. None of these mind boggling statistics account for those sneaking across the border and into America unbeknownst to anyone.

Again, now is not the time to mention, worry about, or scream drugs, crime, gangs, mercy, compassion, border walls and the like, although they all have to be worked through before we ever come close to even beginning to solve this issue.

Here are a couple more undeniable facts about these newest humans walking our streets and such, which should make your head explode when put into the context of living in a country threatening to demand vaccinated people wear masks and insisting that the pandemic is far from over:

    • The number of detainees who tested positive for COVID-19 in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Sector alone has increased by 900%, in the first two weeks of July alone. And again, those are just the ones we caught and actually tested, which is a miniscule number compared to the totality. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/covid-cases-migrants-rio-grande-valley-sector-border-numbers

    • Even more appalling is that 30% of all of the migrants taken into custody are refusing to get vaccinated. PARDON ME? Allow me to break this down for you…they enter America, a nation on pins and needles and filled with anxiety over going backwards as it relates to Covid, and they do so…illegally. They then turn down getting vaccinated against this virus that is threatening to rip this country apart. A Vaccine that this very country is doing everything it can to entice, coerce and even threaten every one of its’ citizens to get. They refuse this vaccination, and then they are released into America. No wonder we can’t reach herd immunity! We’re adding the entire population of Wyoming into America this year unvaccinated! https://www.axios.com/ice-immigrants-covid-vaccine-ee9406fe-7d83-4dce-b5be-c158e0d39f81.html

And for those of you who like to self-soothe and say completely ignorant things like “Well that’s a Texas/Arizona/Southern California problem,” think again, Bubba.

Tens of thousands of immigrants caught illegally crossing the border and then released are dispersing to four corners of the United States on buses, with some taking passenger jets. (There are even unconfirmed reports as of this writing that the United States Air Force is being charged with flying some of the immigrants into the mainland). So this isn’t just “certain states” problem. We know that immigrants have been taken to Florida, New Jersey, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Indiana, Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, and to large cities in Texas such as Dallas and Houston. They arrive, get off their chariot and are almost never heard from again. https://cis.org/Bensman/CatchandBus-Thousands-Freed-BorderCrossing-Immigrants-Are-Dispersing-Across-America

But, remember…your 8 year-old needs to wear a mask all day at school to stop the spread of Covid, thanks to the highly contagious Delta variant, which will, statistically speaking, do nothing to harm anyone under the age of 18. And you, even though you chose to get vaccinated, you have to wear a mask in Los Angeles, maybe at work, and God knows how many other places by next week, even though, statistically speaking, even if you were one of the .003% of breakthrough cases amongst the vaccinated, you won’t get sick from it, and your viral load won’t be enough to transmit it to anyone.

To my unvaccinated friends, remember that, according to the government, you are the problem. If you’d just get jabbed, we could all go back to normal. You’re an idiot who doesn’t actually have a right to refuse to take medicine you don’t want and we’re going to do everything we can to make your life as miserable as possible until you submit. Too bad you didn’t walk across our Southern Border illegally…had you, you could have just said you didn’t want the shot, and you would have been given some money, food, and a free bus ride to West palm Beach. It’s almost like non-Americans in America have more freedoms and choices than Americans do.

    Rob's Soapbox - A Dancing Bear, Monkeypox and a Child Felon Jul 19, 2021
    Show notes

I’ve got something a little different for you this week; while prepping the upcoming week’s shows, a few stories caught my eye that I felt deserved a deeper “Rob-only” dive than the RAD show allows. So, without further ado:

I’m all for defending cultures different than ours. Anytime some American gets on their high horse about how wrong other countries are for things like bullfighting, eating horse, and spending a week every summer running away from Bulls in Pamplona, I point out that those are cultural norms of historic proportion which have been around in the various countries that engage in them longer than the United States has been a country. Not to mention, we hardly have all of our problems and issues locked down here in America, and maybe we should focus on fixing ourselves first.

Don’t get me wrong, speaking out about the fact that every year 25 million dogs are killed for food consumption is valiant, but it’s also a matter of perspective. While we view those 11 countries that account for 99% of those canine meals as reprehensible, the rest of the world views us equally as disgusting. The United States was recently ranked as the second-worst nation in the world for animal cruelty for our reliance on factory farms and treatment of our livestock. Why are they wrong and we’re right? If your answer is “because we’re America,” then you are the worst type of American who truly knows nothing about the country you profess to love. https://foreverinmyheartjewelry.com/blogs/news/11-countries-that-kill-over-25-million-dogs-a-year

    https://www.livekindly.co/america-rated-second-worst-country-in-the-world-for-animal-cruelty/

Acknowledging and respecting other cultures and their different ways does not mean, however, that we cannot revel in delight whenever some dumb human comes up on the short-end of the stick while engaging in questionable behavior with an animal. I get a little giddy every year when I see some dope’s kidney wind up on the end of a steer’s horn in Spain, or whenever a big game hunter from some Anglo country travels to Africa only to be trampled to death by elephants. These things warm the cockles of my heart.

And so, it was with disgusted glee I read the story out of Russia, where they not only still embrace the circus, they also rely heavily on animal acts to entertain their soulless children. Most notably, they take giant brown bears, dress them up in hats and scarves, and then make them dance. How quaint. Over the weekend, imagine this, one attacked its’ human dance partner…not once, not twice, but three times, as hundreds of children watched. Sadly, the female trainer who was attacked not only lived, but wasn’t seriously wounded, and I’m sure the bear was later executed and probably eaten by President Putin, but here’s hoping for a better outcome next time. At least countless children were shown the possible results of screwing with a bear, while simultaneously being hopefully scarred for life. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9799701/Performing-bear-goes-wild-Russian-circus-attack-female-trainer-horrified-children.html

Meanwhile, back in America, A Texas resident who recently traveled from Africa has been hospitalized after catching monkeypox, which originates from the same family of viruses as smallpox. It’s a rare disease that causes flu-like illness and swelling of the lymph nodes, progressing to a widespread rash on the face and body. While this is the first known case of monkeypox in America since 2003, experts do believe that human-to-human transmission of monkeypox occurs primarily through large respiratory droplets. Well…we have seen this movie before, haven’t we? After all, we’re told that we reacted too slowly to the Coronavirus (even though no nation on Earth actually controlled the virus in any meaningfully measurable way…but I digress), so I suggest we get proactive. Let’s lockdown the state of Texas for the foreseeable future, close its’ borders, make all non-essential workers stay home, ban all forms of fun, and for the few people that will be allowed to leave their homes, of course, masks will be mandatory. That should stop a monkeypox outbreak. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2021/07/16/first-u-s-case-of-human-monkeypox-18-years-found-in-texan/7998388002/

Just a few states away, in Mississippi, Six-year-old Mylah Santa Maria has become a viral superstar for her oh-so-sweet gesture of calling first responders from Collins, Mississippi using 911 to tell them she loved and supported them. Isn’t that precious? https://www.foxnews.com/lifestyle/first-grader-calls-911-sweet-message-first-responders

Six-year-old Mylah Santa Maria called 911 to deliver an urgent message.

"I need y’all to tell the sheriff … that I love him and I love y’all," Mylah, told the dispatcher.

"I will make sure that I get that to him, OK?" the dispatcher answered, according to a transcript of the call placed earlier this week.

But wait, there’s more… Covington County Sheriff Darrell Perkins got the message and decided a special thank-you was in order. He surprised Mylah and her family at their home, giving them school supplies and a special Sheriff's Department coin (which, for the record has no monetary value).

What the sheriff should have done was teach the little felon-in-training a lesson. Apparently the “scared straight program,” has been abandoned entirely in this pussified nation of ours, for here was a missed opportunity. It doesn’t matter that the child’s intentions were pure and innocent; if a teenager were to fire a gun in the air to celebrate graduating high school, and the bullet were to come down and kill a small child, you can bet that kid would be held accountable, as he should be, despite the fact that his intentions were pure and innocent. Thanks to this do-nothing sheriff, look for the story of Mylah committing countless felonious crimes in her juvenile career.

A false 911 emergency call is a misdemeanor at least, and a felony in some circumstances. The sheriff should have handcuffed the girl, placed her in the back of his cruiser and taken her to the nearest women’s prison so that she could see what her future looks like if she doesn’t shape up. Have her chat with a few bearded ladies doing hard time and get a glimpse of what her prank-calling ways will lead to if she doesn’t make some hard turns towards leading a more pure existence. You think she loves law enforcement now, just wait until the sheriff brings her back home and gives her a second chance at life after that trip.

Finally, as many of you know, one of the things I enjoy more than I should is pointing out how little we know, and how so many amongst us adjust our entire lives over proclamations from studies, health experts, and science. No doubt the last year has been a showcase for how inexact science is and how it’s constantly changing and evolving, and yet, countless imbeciles alter their entire way of life because the health media told them to. Eggs are good, eggs are bad, coffee is bad, coffee is good, eat more carbs, eat no carbs, take an aspirin a day to ward off heart attacks, oh wait, that actually makes you more prone to a heart attack…and on and on the examples go.

Thus, I laugh whenever something we’ve been told to do for our well-being for decades is suddenly deemed harmful, knowing that many people will dismiss the new findings, based solely on having to believe what they’ve been doing is the right thing. Others will immediately change their lives thanks to this new found information, and in the end, we’ll all continue to know basically nothing.

It’s important, we’ve been told, prior to exercising in any way, whether it be running, weight-lifting, golfing, or even bowling, to warm-up our muscles by stretching them. Ooops. Experts now warn that stretching prior to activity will actually lead to injuries, for stretching a cold muscle can tear it. We’re better off merely moving our joints around, getting blood flowing throughout the body through movement, and then stretching at the end of our workouts. So there you go…everything you’ve been doing was wrong and now you know exactly what you should be doing until next week when they tell you something entirely different. If you actually pay attention to this crap and modify any aspect of your life as a result, you deserve to pull a muscle, while choking on an egg, being burned by coffee, and your throat slit by the shards of a broken aspirin bottle. https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/health-wellness/2021/07/15/stretching-before-workout-think-again-you-could-pull-muscle/7963059002/

    Rob's Soapbox - Good News / Bad News Jul 11, 2021
    Show notes

One of my mentors and best friends taught me long ago to always lead with the bad news. “Bad news first,” he would say when I walked into his office (since I rarely came with good news, but that’s for another soapbox). I adopted that strategy in all facets of my life and it has served me well.

However, it’s not great for showbiz, so we’re going to start with the good news.

Driving to and from Las Vegas over summer vacation, spending almost a week there, and then spending lots of time in the greater Sacramento area going to dinners, lunches, and stores, there was a lot of good. Unfortunately, the good was basically breaking my self-imposed rule of celebrating normal. It IS good, though, to see seemingly so many people returning to life.

In Vegas, maybe 25% of all people were wearing masks, and there was certainly no social distancing of any kind going on there. The casinos, bars, restaurants and strip itself were packed shoulder to shoulder. There was the odd store, like Louis Vuitton, who was still engaging in capacity limits and lines to get in (thus, they didn’t get our business) and only one store in all of Vegas (we went to literally dozens) asked us to put on a mask to enter. Thus, we didn’t enter…screw you, Valentino. My wife found her shoes elsewhere, thank you.

The roads everywhere are packed, to be sure. What should have been a 7-8 hour drive to Las Vegas took over 10, solely because there were just too many damn cars (and tons of truckers keeping America running) on the road. Not just in Vegas, but also Reno, where we stopped briefly, and throughout Sacramento, people are also generally in good, positive moods. In fact, I noticed that the only grouchy people seem to be the ones who should be at home in the first place; those rare customers wearing masks, who seem incapable of being happy about anything.

It was also noteworthy and refreshing to observe that essentially no one, anywhere, is talking about anything related to Covid. The maskers don’t talk to anyone anyway, so they don’t count. Everyone else was talking about plans, sports, the weather, which concerts and events they’re going to go to, seeing family and friends, getting back to work in offices, even the holidays. So yes, normal is good…it shouldn’t be celebrated, but it should be at least noticed.

It also comes with some unfortunate side effects after the last year. Most notably, people are awkward as hell. It’s glaringly obvious who amongst us has spent the last year living life as normally as possible, and who actually literally stayed home the entire time. Many times my wife and I felt like we were teaching children how to socialize with strangers in public for the first time, but hey, at least they’ve found their way back…and again, were almost universally pleasant and positive. Something else that’s glaringly obvious from Vegas and back is the worker shortage; it’s real and it’s bad. The people who are working are trying, you can tell…but there just aren’t enough of them, anywhere. Wait times are forever, lines are long, service is slow, and it’s not incompetence, it’s lack of bodies. At a couple restaurants in Vegas we noticed long wait times to get tables with entire sections of tables empty; being the curious (nosey) types that we are, we asked if they were still limiting capacities or following protocols at these places and the answer was the same every time; absolutely not… “we just don’t have enough people working.” As a fellow business owner, it was downright depressing to see so much potential revenue and income being squandered solely because there aren’t enough people willing to work.

None of that, however, is the bad news.

People will get better at socializing again, and the workers will return, in time. The question is when, exactly, and that’s where the bad news comes in.

I stayed entirely ignorant for the first 10 days of our vacation; turning on no news, avoiding websites that didn’t contain recipes or porn, and trying my best to cleanse my covid soaked brain which has been on overload for the past 15 months.

I wasn’t surprised when I dove back in to the happenings of the universe to see the endless stories about crime skyrocketing, racial tensions, heatwaves, and billionaires heading into outer space. Same stuff, different day for this decade so far.

Come to think of it, I did turn on some news on the drive home from Vegas; Christina needed a nap, and I needed something that I actually had to concentrate on other than the endless landscape of sage and feral donkeys that make up Nevada, so I decided to listen to some news on satellite radio since it would at least hold my attention, and I knew I couldn’t hide from it forever. I heard the current Surgeon General of the United States, Vice Admiral Vivek H. Murthy in an interview talking about the Delta variant strain of the Covid virus. If you’ve bene fortunate enough to miss it, the Delta strain is the lasts mutation of Covid and it’s a doozy; stronger, more transferrable, and shutting much of the world down yet again. The Olympics in Japan will now have no spectators thanks to yet another state of emergency in that country thanks to Covid.

But our Surgeon General didn’t take the bait. In fact, he was on to present brand new data that shows that all three of the vaccines available in the United States are resistant to the Delta Variant. He made it a point to say that if you’re vaccinated, you are safe from all forms of covid and can’t spread it, so there’s no need to wear a mask at anytime. He obviously also made his pitch for others to get vaccinated, but did so in a way that acknowledged they should do so only if they choose, and to protect themselves. I thought to myself “well that was refreshing. Some actual science, logic, and common sense from a public health official.”

So here’s the bad news; along with a question. As I dove all the way back in to prepping for the show and reading, I found story after story ginning up as much fear as possible about the Delta variant, the coming fall and cooler weather, and expert after expert saying mask mandates need to be re-instated in the United States. Why? You ask…because despite actual data after 7 months of vaccinating half of America’s entire population showing that the vaccines prevent the spread of Covid, people are just making things up again. One of the biggest lunatics since the start of the pandemic has been a guy named Christopher Murray, the director of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, whose models and predictions have been wrong from the beginning, yet still has a job and is labeled as an “expert.” Despite the evidence presented by the Surgeon General, Murray is demanding mask mandates be re-instated because there is no doubt in his mind that vaccinated people are spreading the Delta variant. That’s an actual quote…no data at all whatsoever, just his belief. https://www.businessinsider.com/covid-expert-vaccinated-people-can-spread-the-delta-variant-2021-7

    https://www.cnbc.com/2021/07/08/us-heading-for-dangerous-fall-with-surge-in-delta-covid-cases-and-return-of-indoor-mask-mandates.html?__source=androidappshare

Now, mind you, the debate over masks is over. They are the greatest thing on planet Earth and if you question that you are a flat-earth, Holocaust denier. Period, shut your mouth, that’s SCIENCE.

And of course, for some reason, freedom is not a topic allowed either. Despite the fact that this is still barely the United States, you can’t for a second point out that people have a right to choose not to take a medicine they don’t want. As the almighty Dr. Fauci said last week “get over it.” Yes, that’s a direct quote too. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/anthony-fauci-republicans-covid-vaccine-b1880427.html

For the love of God don’t even think about invoking the fact that about two-thirds of eligible Americans are at least partially vaccinated, and of the other third we know statistically that half of them have had Covid and have anti-bodies, meaning that we have achieved herd immunity. My God…that might mean that life can fully go back to normal. And don’t even think about pointing out that Johns Hopkins University, one of the most respected throughout this pandemic, is leading the way saying that we have herd immunity and it’s time to help the rest of the world get there and let America live. Shutup…SCIENCE. https://www1.cbn.com/cbnnews/us/2021/june/johns-hopkins-professor-dr-marty-makary-to-news-the-pandemic-is-really-over

So here’s the question that goes with the bad news…actually questions…

Will we see parts of the country re-enact mask mandates by fall (this seems like an obvious yes to me, but discuss and let me know)

How will the nation react? How will the half of the country I spent the last two weeks with respond to being told we’re going back? There’s the part of me that demands we just look to the recent past and remember how so many so willingly submitted to idiocy and that they will again, but there’s also the part of me that says enough of us, and our businesses, are fed up with this and will demand to finally live…normally…with the virus.

It's no news flash that we’re a more divided nation than at any other time in my life, and this next attempt at slowing down, impeding, or stopping our lives could be calamitous. To end on an attempted more positive note, let’s hope that enough of us have shown with our actions and our pocketbooks our desire to return to normal, and that enough people have taken notice and won’t try, yet again, to restrict us from doing so.
