    Show notes

Ep. 173- Journey to Pediatric Sports Residency (w/ Dr. Alissa Geipel) Sep 02, 2020
    Show notes

In this episode we chat with Dr. Alissa Geipel, a Pediatric Sports Physical Therapist. A culmination of an ACL tear, getting more involved in sports, and tutoring led her to the PT profession. Alissa obtained her biochemistry degree during undergrad. Having to expand from a molecular level to a gross level during graduate school was a big adjustment. However, her background also allowed her to have a more complete understanding of how the body works. We discuss the process of applying for a residency program, the different residency tracks that are available, and how she became interested in a residency. She shares the differences between a typical week of PT school versus a week of residency. We wrap up the episode with Alissa’s advice for current PT students.

Ep. 171- YouTube and Business Building as a PTA (w/ Antonio Sanson) Aug 26, 2020
    Show notes

In this episode we chat with Antonio Sanson, PTA, and clinic co-founder. Reading books about PT and having a sister as PT, led him to PTA school while deciding what he wanted to do with his life. He shares how his first semester of PTA school went and what the layout of his school entailed. After graduation, he worked in the same clinic as his sister, starting as a tech until he completed his licensure exam. Antonio started recording videos on his iPhone about the profession and common questions he was asked about being a PTA for a YouTube channel. This opened the door to other video editing opportunities such as being on the MPTA communication committee. He shares how he started a PT business with his sister and shares tips on saving money when expanding a clinic. We wrap up the episode with advice for current PT or PTA students.

    Ep. 170 - The GRADitude Scholarship 2.0 Aug 23, 2020
    Show notes

In this episode we chat about our clinical rotations, wildlife, and then a wee bit more wildlife (Steve Irwin would be proud). More importantly we discuss Round 2.0 of our GRADitude Scholarship. Based on our personal experiences, there are just not enough scholarships out there for SPT's! Additionally, the ones that are out there may require extensive hoops to jump through and may have a laundry list of eligibility requirements that you may or may not satisfy to even apply. We digress. To help you all out on your #journeytodebtfree, we are setting the goal to raise $10,000 which will be divided up into at least three scholarships for SPT's (all the money we raise will be put towards the scholarship fund, so if we raise more, those scholarships will be a bit heftier). If you would like to donate directly, we have a Gofundme set up at the below link. This link also has all the details for those who would like to apply for the scholarship.

Ep. 169- Fresh SPT From City to Small Town (w/ Isabelle) Aug 19, 2020
    Show notes

In this episode we chat with Isabelle, a second-year DPT student. Isabelle majored in Kinesiology during undergrad and took an introduction to PT course during her freshman year. Both of these experiences solidified her interest in PT. Isabelle discusses being waitlisted at multiple programs and getting accepted from her last interview. She shares adjusting from a large undergraduate school to a small graduate program. She talks about how her first semester went and what helped her the most with taking practical exams for the first time. Maintaining a fitness routine, planning everything out, and focusing on her future clinical helped Isabelle remain motivated when her program had to transition to online classes. Isabelle has aspirations of working with the pediatric population in a small town after graduation. She wraps up the episode with advice for DPT students starting classes during a pandemic.

    Show notes

Don't get caught in the mindset of "I will be happy if [insert laundry list of hopes, dreams, and goals]." All to often we fall victim to this thought pattern, never allowing ourselves to be truly happy until we accomplish the next thing... and then the next thing.
