    The magnanimous contribution by Robert F. Smith to erase the student loan debt incurred by the 2019 graduating class of Morehouse college resurrected the discussion about student loans. In fact 70% of us owe ~$26,000 in student load debt after attending a 4 year institution. Many of us owe much more as we earn graduate and doctoral degrees. In this episode, we discuss how to pay back student loan debt WHILE in grad school with Dr. Indira Turney. Dr. Turney shares her experience paying back >$60,000 of student loan debt during her Ph.D program.

    There is an interesting debate about midwifery: is it the oldest profession? Regardless of the advent of the profession, midwives have played a role in maternal health for a very long time. In this episode, we discuss midwifery and its role in improving the current state of maternal health with one of my mentors : Mrs. Ebony Marcelle, CNM, MS. Mrs Marcelle is the director of Midwifery at the Family Health and Birth Center (FHBC; Community of Hope). FHBC is the only federally funded free-standing birth center in Washington DC. In addition, Ebony is a member of the Black Maternal Caucus. She has dedicated her career to improving black maternal health.
