Hello, it’s time for another episode, so let’s jump right in.
DP connects with media journalist Jade Jackson. Her journey started at the age of 9 when the school librarian, selected her to do morning announcements, an honor normally reserved for the sixth-grade students. She was hailed by students and teachers as being funny and entertaining. She didn’t like the news however and like most children, her age pondered why her family chose to watch them instead of morning cartoons. It would take the CNN document, Black In America, to make her take interest with the idea of telling stories. During her high school years, she was a member of the yearbook, newspaper and television committees which launched her into the world of broadcasting. She attended Jarvis Christian College, founded by her Great-grandfather, and has made a promise to establish a journalism degree program there. Her drive to allow others the same opportunity given to her speaks to the passion she has for her art.

This week, DP chats with Brandon Groce. Brandon describes himself as a being a cartoonist, geek, hip-hop head, action figure collector and ex sneakerhead. How did this man who wears many hats begin his creative journey?
He describes having a deep interest in designing tattoos and thought he was going to be an ink artist. After realizing that his expectations were unrealistic, he enrolled in college and started taking graphic design and illustration classes. With his skill level in art, he naturally thought illustration would be the field for him, but yet again, his course would shift. As he learned more about graphic design, he realized that’s where he wanted to be. A majority of the experience he acquired came from working and learning on the job as he didn’t graduate from college.
He built his brand after he started making inspiration boards and creative employment advice. He describes his inspiration behind doing that was having something that he could own. He opens up in the interview about his challenge and how he overcame it. He also makes mentions of his next steps. This interview will leave you entertained, but don’t take my word for it, listen for yourself. Happy listening!

“The bigger your dreams, the bigger your sacrifice has to be.” Tom Ross
In this week's episode, Darold “DP” Pinnock dialogues with the CEO of Design Cuts, podcaster, and marketing talent Tom Ross.
Tom was born to be creative. As a child, he took creative writing courses and even had a few of his poems published. He loved art and was even a member of a band. The passion for web design came at the age of 12 when while playing around online at a friend's house, they realized that websites were actually humanly developed. With that, a new world was open to them and they started to design web pages for fun. By the time they were in high school, they were able to make a profit from some of these designs.
During his college years, while he pursued an English degree, at the urging of his parents, he was still being directed in the creative path. He would help his friends with photoshop and work for various design companies. As an intelligent kid that was used to doing little and still excel, he didn’t get serious about his career path until a conversation with his father forced him to take a hard look at himself. Seeing his friends enter the working field and become successful also gave him the motivation to follow his dreams and start his business.

“Anything that you don’t intentionally change will constantly block us.”
Darold “DP” Pinnock is kicking off the New Year with yet another great, inspirational episode.
As you can already glean from the title, this episode centers around ensuring we take the appropriate steps to get to the future we envisioned for ourselves. It delivers a timely message as the New Year always prompts many to set resolutions that unfortunately never get accomplished.
Darold encourages us to take a deeper look within our daily routine to determine is our habits are a factor is dreams not being met. He challenges us to lighten our load as we free ourselves from unnecessary burdens, such as involving ourselves in the business of others.
He asks two profound questions that personally have me taking a hard look at myself and my actions:
-“Stop and think...what are we doing on a daily basis that doesn’t match where we’re trying to go?”
-“What are you doing that you shouldn’t be doing that will constantly break the cycle that will lead you to the future you’d like to have?”
This is a message for everyone that has felt confused, frustrated and stagnated in their goal journey. As you listen, my hope and prayer are that it will ignite a newfound zeal to pursue your passion and purpose relentlessly. Happy listening and Happy New Year!

“Talent is maybe 25% of it, and 75% is actually connections and how you use the technology with your work to connect to people.”
Passion Behind The Art Show is back with another episode for you to enjoy. This week Darold sits down with Andrew Thompson an art director and designer at Vayner Media.
Andrew spent a lot of his earlier years drawing, even spending time in the library during his high school years studying the craft. He pursued his passion in college as he sought out colleges that offered the New Media design curriculum. After college, his first experience in the workforce was being an intern. Although it wasn’t a paid assignment, Andrew learned how to organize fonts as well as sourcing photos. He then went on to a paid gig, where he was a junior designer and able to support a campaign from start to finish. His current role at Vayner Media allows him to assist others to establish their presence on the internet and social media platforms.

Darold is back with another episode of Passion Behind The Arts and this week he’s sitting down with Nick Longo. Nick Longo is a designer, educator, and one of the co-hosts from The Deeply Graphic DesignCast, one of the first podcasts that highlighted graphic designers.
As Nick recalls his childhood, he talks about being drawn to creative toys. He loved to draw, and because he never considered it his strongest skill, he devoted himself to work on ways to better express himself creatively. As a collegiate student, he was introduced to graphic design from one of his best friends. After graduating, he had the opportunity to work closely with an art director who taught him invaluable lessons about timelines and client relations. Another of his jobs would allow him to pay homage to his childhood by giving him the opportunity to design toys. He also talks about the times he took bold steps that resulted in him getting the opportunity to co-host at The Deeply Graphic DesignCast and become a professor at his alma mater.
As you listen to this episode, you’ll hear a lot of wisdom as Nick discusses the biggest hurdles he’s had to overcome, letting go of your fear and seizing opportunities and the importance of helping others along the way. Happy listening!
