Songfacts Podcast: Asaf Avidan Jan 21, 2021
    Show notes

This episode starts off differently than most, with Asaf Avidan describing in harrowing detail how he was nearly killed by the wolf-dog hybrid he adopted. He survived the attack and recorded his latest album, Anagnorisis, with an eye on the big picture, questioning reality itself in very philosophical songs (perhaps we're just here as a point of reference for the gods, he wonders).

Born and raised in Israel, Asaf's audience is mostly in Europe, where he's had several platinum records and hits across 14 different countries. He has been compared to some of the best lyricists ever known, and once you get into his catalogue it's easy to hear why.

Asaf is a gifted songwriter and lyricist with a truly unique and amazing voice. In this episode, we find ourselves in a deep conversation that I think you will enjoy.

Long May You Young 35: Horse Lords with Griffin Sherry of The Ghost Of Paul Revere Jan 20, 2021
    Show notes

This week we zoomed it up with our friend Griffin Sherry! Griffin is an insanely talented musician and songwriter for the band The Ghost Of Paul Revere. We talked about his favorite Neil albums, what it was like to play on Conan, CSN vs. CSNY, and becoming part of Maine state history. Luke and Mike fight a little more about T-bone. We also read an iTunes review from Horse Lords and it pretty much unravels from there.

Huge thanks to Griffin for joining us to talk Neil and other fun stuff this week. To buy the latest Ghost Of Paul Revere merch, including there latest album, Good At Losing Everything, head over to https://www.ghostofpaulrevere.com/

Make it Stop: The Stooges - The Weirdness (w/ Kira Roessler of Black Flag and Sophia Belle) Jan 20, 2021
    Show notes

Things get spicy on this week's Make It Stop as Heather and Mike are joined by veritable hardcore legend Kira Roessler (Black Flag, Dos, Awkward) and local up-and-coming musician Sophia Belle (Home Despot) to discuss The Stooges' 35-years-in-the-making fourth album The Weirdness (2007). As Heather, Mike and Sophia do their best to malign Iggy Pop and his history-making and genre-defining band for their iffy production choices, cringe lyrics and uninspiring arrangements, Kira takes them all to task, vehemently defending the band and making us all ask important questions such as: Does our criticism has any value? Why do we have to be such assholes? Is our own music really any better than this? And why exactly do we have such a problem with lyrics about dicks turning into trees? You won't want to miss this one, Stoppies. Part of the Pantheon Podcast network.

    Decibel Geek 437: New Noize 13 Jan 20, 2021
    Show notes

We're back this week to deliver all the news that's fit to spit with New Noize 13! So far, 2021 has been an active year for rock and metal news. In this episode we talk about some of the notable stories that have taken place recently.

Def Leppard recently launched an online museum for their fans. This site contains images of passes, stage worn gear, photographs, and tons more from their entire career. Best of all, it's actually free. We take a look at the Def Leppard Vault and share our thoughts on it and how it is a great template that other bands should be using for fan interaction.

Some exciting reissues are on the horizon from the Ronnie James Dio era of Black Sabbath. Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules are getting the deluxe treatment and contain some cool bonus tracks. We talk about this cool reissue.

Gene Simmons recently partnered with Gibson Guitars for a set of new guitars and basses as well as upcoming digital content. We break it all down in this episode.

Legendary label owner Marsha Zazula passed recently. The co-founder of Megaforce Records was an integral part of opening the door to loads of great acts from the 80's. James Hetfield recently released a statement in tribute to Marsha and we discuss that.

Megadeth leader Dave Mustaine recently revealed the working title for the next studio album. What is it? What do we think of it? You'll have to listen to find out.

Don Dokken recently had some criticism of the new project from former band mates Jeff Pilson and George Lynch. In this episode we talk about those comments and read Jeff's response to them.

Other notable news stories we touch on include Scott Rockenfield, Suspect208, Goran Edmond on Yngwie's treatment of the band, and how Elton John might be trying to ruin rock music (it'll make sense when you listen).

We hope you enjoy New Noize 13 and SHARE with a friend!
